FLUTTER
POV: Apollo

Music thumps as the walls in my house shake. My parents were out of town and Maria was visiting her daughter. I had the house to myself and what do you do when you have the house to yourself? Throw a party of course. It wasn't just a party it was a rager.

The walls were busting at the seams because of packed it is. Drinks were flowing and everyone was getting down to business. I had to lock all the upstairs rooms in fear that people would break in there to have sex.

One thing was on my mind. Haven Collins. She was giving me a run for my money. The way she was looking at me almost sent me over the edge. Part of me was hoping she was coming to the party. The other part of me was hoping she'd stay the hell away from me.

Cup after cup of alcohol. I was buzzing and my mind kept getting foggier. Girls were trying to dance with me, but I didn't want any part of it. I didn't want them. It was annoying when Sadie showed up. She swayed her hips as stalked toward me.

"I've been thinking about you, Apollo. Have you been thinking about me?" She asks. She looks different. Her eyes are watery and red. Her makeup is smeared and her perfect facade has fallen.

"I haven't," I say honestly. I didn't want to lead her on more than I already have. It was fun while it lasted, but when I saw her fight with Haven I couldn't stand her.

When they first started fighting I laughed a little bit. I wanted to see a reaction creep out of her. She didn't show me anything since I moved there. When I locked eyes with her that day I wanted to see every emotion in her. Anger, sadness, lust, jealousy, anything she would give up.

What Sadie said wasn't funny. She took it way too far and Haven cracked. I hated that the words got to her. Right after that, I broke up with Sadie on the spot. No explanation, no anything.

"Why?" Her eyes water even more. Every girl I dated got attached too fast. It was annoying. "Apollo I miss what we had."

"Listen, Sadie, I'm not interested anymore," I say before leaving her standing in the kitchen. I sneak outside to find a spot where I can get some space to clear my mind.

I wander off into the garden. Statues squirt water out of their mouths and flower bushes cover the grounds. My parents have always been over the top.

My breath catches in my throat when Heaven walks around the corner. Her face is distorted in a look of pain. The grip on her cup is so tight that it's caving in on the sides. She walks around the fountain slowly as she relaxes her breathing.

"Rough night?" I ask and she nearly jumps out of her skin. She places a hand on her beating heart. I smirk at how jumpy she is.

"God, you scared me!" she exclaims. The liquid from her cup has drenched her white top, leaving a red stain. "Shit," she mutters looking down at her shirt.

"Sorry about that," I apologize, but she gives me a nasty look.

"Who jumps out of the bushes like that?" Haven folds her arms over her chest and glowers at me.

"I didn't jump out. I was standing here the whole time," I explain then take a sip from my cup. It's pretty chilly tonight. I bet Haven's cold. I take strides toward Haven. Her lips part as she watches my every move. I set my cup down on the fountain before sighing and pulling the grey sweatshirt I'm wearing over my head. Her eyes burn on me as my white tee rides up, exposing my abs. When It's finally over my head I toss her the sweatshirt. She catches it with fumbling arms. "It's cold out," I say staring into her eyes.

She stares up at me with big doe eyes. Different from the ones I've seen earlier. They're submissive, relaxed, and watchful. I tear away the eye contact to pick up my drink. She seems to come back to reality as she slips the sweatshirt over her head. It swallows her whole, the hem ending just above her knee. The number 21 is is on full display on the back.

"Thank you," she says looking down at it. "I'll give it back as soon as possible."

"There no need, I have plenty." It wasn't a lie. I did have many. I had so much close that it was ridiculous, but a part of me wanted her to hang it in her closet and secretly wear it at night.

She nods and looks down at her feet. So different than how she was when tearing Sadie's hair out. "You have a really nice house," she compliments.

I glance up at it. "Thank you," I say tapping my fingers on my cup. "I wouldn't think so."

Her head snaps up to me. "What? Why?" Her eyebrows furrow in confusion.

"A nice house means nothing when you don't have a family to live in it." My parents were hardly home. It was just me and Maria. Although I consider Maria a second mother, she has a family of her own and I was a muir employer.

"I get it," she exhales deeply and plants her butt onto the fountain as a seat. "Sometimes it doesn't even feel like I have a home," she admits. A look of pain returns to her face. "Pretend I didn't say that."

The side of my lip turns up. "Me too," I say kicking a rock on the ground. "Pretend I didn't say that either."

Haven chuckles and peeks up at me. "My lips are sealed," she says smiling. That's the deadliest smile I've ever seen. One that could melt a man. "Your different than why I thought you were."

I shake my head. "No, I'm exactly what you think I am." I take a chug from my cup, drinking it all the way gone. When it's empty I toss it into the fountain. "Don't get it twisted." I lock eyes with her before turning my back and heading back inside. To be honest, I wanted to stay outside with Haven, but I don't want to be just like the rest of them. Dumb and in love. Desperate for my attention.

I could already tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted me. I like it, but I'll ruin her, and from what I heard she has already been destroyed. Rumors say her parents died in a car accident. The only survivors were Haven and her younger brother. I heard it was pretty bad.

I retreat back to the party. "Congratulations, bro," Denver says placing his hand on my shoulder. I hate when people touched me. However, Denver was growing on me. A lot of the boys on the team were. It was weird at first. I didn't want anything to do with them other than winning. But somehow they wiggled their way into me actually liking them.

"Thanks," I say and we complete our handshake. "We'll do it again next week."

The rest of the night was spent avoiding Sadie and watching Haven like a hawk. Sadie was hunting me down trying to talk to me while Haven kept the distance between us, only sharing small glances at me. Other than that she pretended I didn't ask she talked with her friends. Landon Adams.

I just realized that I don't quite like him. I rather he does not exist in his place next to Haven. They laugh like old friends when I've never seen them talk in my whole time living here. Granted I've only lived here for a little over a month. I could still tell he only wanted one thing out of her and that made me hate his guts.
