Andrei's POV:

Wearing a rather simple black suit and having my hair actually combed for once, I was walking into the Casino. Molly was as always on the reception, but also on the phone, so I just waved at her with my least intimidating smile and walked towards Briar's office. I knocked four times and didn't wait for a response to enter, seeing her on the phone.

She narrowed her eyes towards me for coming in unasked for. Her features were clearly relieved. I didn't get in contact with her for a week after all. I decided to just lean against the wall and watch her handling her business talk on the phone. Watching her work was kinda cute.

Whenever she wasn't speaking and just listening, she was licking her lower lip once. Every time she thought about an offer, her brows furrowed like she was already calculating her profit from a deal. Her fingers began playing with a strand of hair with every offer she put out to the other side. With no one watching, normally she didn't at all control her body language. And with me watching, she apparently didn't care. That kind of made me proud.

She ended the call and hung up the phone with a playfully annoyed look at me, "If you just keep showing up unannounced, I will never get any work done."

"I never heard you complain before. Actually I think you did agree most of the time ... quite loudly as a matter of fact." I reply with a shrug, and she stalks over to me to give me a swat on the shoulder.

"Where have you been? I haven't seen you in a week after you got escorted into the police station." she kept on asking.

"What do you think where I was? I was lying low. I did a heist job in a police station. Of course, I needed to make sure I wasn't tracked down."

She gave me a slight scowl, "Yes, you did one of your ridiculously dangerous jobs. You tried stealing a cop car, you blew up a bomb in the city, and you roped me into all of that even though I'm pregnant."

"Technically, I didn't blow up a bomb. And before you start about it, neither did you. Whoever of the police force used my remote triggered that." I added my two cents to it.

"Not helpful, Spicy. And what is this?" she placed her fingers on the still visible cut I had on my temple from where Jaque hit me with the pliers.

"That ... That's nothing really. I am completely fine and everything worked out perfectly." I tried to calm her with a smile and grabbed her hand gently.

As soon as I did smile, though, she grabbed my chin and pulled me closer, "Your front teeth look different ... new."

"Well, okay, maybe I did not plan for two officers to use a tool box in their interrogation so-"

"TOOLBOX?!"

Oh, oh.

"You just walk in here after being in a suicidal job of yours, starting some wild chase through the city with the police, and now you're calmly telling me they tortured you after your arrest?" Briar let go of me and I could clearly see her stressed out face as she walked over to her desk, leaning on it with a slight wince.

I quickly followed up and turned her to face me again. One of my hands went to rest on her belly by reflex, and I looked her deep in the eyes.

"Calm down, Sugar. Look, I did this job because it was given to me before I agreed to work for you. I was never in any serious thread because I handled worse in my life. I mean, just look at my face. They pulled four teeth. I had all of my 32 teeth pulled from my mouth in one day once. I can handle quite a bit of pain." I again tried to reassure her, and she briefly glanced down to her belly then back up at me.
