[UNDER HEAVY EDITING] Capturing Alexandra |...
Capturing Alexandra | Book 1 in The Oceanic Secret Trilogy
All young Merfolk listen to the Elder's stories-- legends, you might call them-- about humans. We learn never to trust the vile beasts that inhabit the land, to not even be in close proximity with them... But most of all, to never be seen by one.
Even as a young child I loved the land. I was fascinated by the Elder's legends about the humans, and I wanted to learn everything I could about the species. Much to my parent's disliking, my curiosity with the two-legged creatures only grew as I aged, and eventually cost me my freedom.
On my seventeenth birthday my life was changed forever. I fell asleep on a rock above the surface of the water and accidentally exposed myself to humans. They sold me to an aquarium where I was imprisoned for nearly a week before the solitude and constant stress caused me to go mentally insane.
During those seven days, I endured forced interaction with humans, food deprivation in an effort to persuade me to perform, stressful transport, and even kidnapping. All I want now is to feel the oceanic currents on my scales, to have the ability to swim vast distances, and to see my family again. Am I doomed to spend the rest of my life in captivity? Or will I be able to escape the greedy creatures who rule the land?
