"James Wake excels at writing action sequences. The book was jam-packed with nail biting moments. I felt like I was right beside Nadia as she fought, made quick decisions, and raced towards narrow escapes. The book is dark but realistic...Although this is not my typical genre, I'm glad I picked up this book. Nadia in particular is a wonderful character who brings panache to a gritty tale. " - Miranda Lynn, The Lesbian Review Nadia loves jewels. Big ones, small ones, red ones, blue ones. But her favorite variety is the illegally acquired. She has more than enough money to buy the best. That's never been the point. Shoplifting is her hobby, her escape. When her high school friend, Tess, offers to help her break into real burglary, how could she refuse? Tess is a technical genius - she designed and built her own right arm. Surely she can take down any security standing in their way to bigger and better loot. Outside the city walls, Jackson was raised in the slums. Life as a refugee was never easy, and the only way out was joining the army. Now she's a cop, finally living inside the old sea walls. She's supposed to be hunting Cheshire, a reclusive hacktivist stirring up unrest, but the nightly news is full of a smug young woman breaking the law and getting away with it, blowing kisses as she escapes police and private security. Theatrical, daring heists, thrilling to watch. And Jackson hates every minute of it. Meanwhile, the city they both call home is slowly tearing itself apart around them. Jackson crushes riot after riot, just part of the job. But more and more it feels wrong, hopeless, no point to any of it, no future for any of them. Nadia has given up on the future. But more and more people see her escapades and realize they can fight back. It doesn't make sense to Nadia, not at first, but an unlikely romance starts to show her that there could be some hope, even in a broken world.

Her prey

Celeste thought her life was perfect-until the night that shattered everything. At 21, she had it all: love, stability, and a future she believed in. But on Valentine's Day, a night meant for roses and promises, her world crumbled. Betrayed by the woman she loved on their first anniversary, Celeste's heartbreak should have been the worst part of the evening. It wasn't. That same night, she was taken-kidnapped by a woman who was everything her ex wasn't: dangerous, powerful, and merciless. Raven Cantié, known in the criminal underworld as La Louve Noire-The Black She-Wolf-isn't just a mafia boss. She's a legend. Sadistic, manipulative, and irresistibly charismatic, Raven doesn't ask. She takes. And what she wants now is Celeste-fragile, whose innocence fascinates her like a flame calling to a predator. But what Raven doesn't expect is that the girl she saw as prey might be something else entirely. Because Celeste isn't just fragile. She's fire wrapped in fear, and there are things inside her even Raven can't control. Will Raven tame her favorite possession, or will Celeste be the one to burn the wolf alive? A story of obsession, trauma, twisted power, and a darkness that blurs the line between love and control. • • • • Trigger warnings:kidnapping, drinking, smut, degrading, blood, beating, killing, very graphic tortures , SA, rape, drugging, a lot of swears etc. It's 18+ story with mature scenes and graphic content.
