The Love Letter

A desk,

Me,

You.

A silent room.

That's all we've got.

That's all we ever needed.

Unfold for me,

Let me touch your edges,

The both sides of you.

You don't have to hide either one

Of them to me anymore.

I'll let you see every part of me

Every corner, every color

To show you I trust you.

I can be vulnerable around you.

I believe in you.

I know you're scared of getting crumpled so

I'll stay on your soft side,

I'll make sure not to lean on too hard,

I'll try my hardest not to go over your edges.

I want to leave marks of my presence all over you

But I don't want to mess it up by making crossing-outs.

They said you were too white for me.

That the brightness of your body would blind me.

But isn't that what love is all about ?

I want to use all the colors on Earth to show them we belong.

But I only have four.

Like the number of letters in the word that

I wrote on you so many times already - l o v e

I'll use blue to draw the sky as I see it,

Red when I want to let you know how much you mean to me,

Green to draw the grass we'd be laying on if we could breathe,

Black to map you the maze of my worries.

But we've shared so many stories,

Fought so many blank spaces.

And I'm running out of ink now.

Running out of place to write.

Running out of time.

A ticking clock,

You,

Me,

That's all we have now.

That's all we ever had.

The hand holding me has given up.

She stopped using future tense.

Can you blame her ?

One can only hold on hope for so long.
