The King remained standing across the way. I couldn't pick out exactly what he looked like, but Harry happened to mention previously that he wasn't scary-looking and for some reason, butterflies started to form in my stomach not out of nerves but something else...perhaps out of anticipation?
All of a sudden out of the corner of my eyes I saw Jordan running towards the figure, screaming with anger. Jordan?! What are you doing, you stupid boy!
I ran after him and when I had finally caught up to him, we were only metres in front of the King. He was tall, with tanned olive skin, two mesmerizing brown eyes and an arm full of art from what could have been centuries of information. His hair was gelled up and he had a small amount of facial hair on his jaw line which surprisingly worked for him. I looked at his smile and something seemed overly familiar by that one smile, as if I had seen it before.
I pushed Jordan behind me and looked behind me to see Harry, still where he stood before, motionless. He really was afraid, though I couldn't see why, the person in front of us didn't seem like they would hurt us. I quickly swirled myself around to meet the King's gaze and gentle smile.
"I'm sorry for my brother's behaviour, he's a little sceptic about vampires."
The King smiled and chortled softly. The entire duration of the time, our eyes were locked to each other but as he took a step forward, I couldn't help but take one back.
"Jordan go back to the hut and stay there." I almost whispered, my eyes still locked to the King's.
Jordan refused to do so, instead he glared at Zayn so hard that I swear I saw his eye twitch. I turned around and finally broke the stare long enough to look at Jordan who started moving as soon as his eyes met mine. Even though it was only for a second, I swore I could see a twinkle in his eye, but it alarmed me. Usually when one talks about a twinkle or a glint in the eye, it symbolises love but this was much darker, I swore I could see his hatred growing then and there.
"I'm sorry about that." I said again as I looked back up at the King.
He nodded understandingly and smirked slightly.
"It's nice to see you again, Lily."
My eyes opened wide. How did he know me? I had never seen him before in my life. Sure he seemed familiar but I'm usually very good with faces and for some reason I couldn't put my finger on exactly how I knew him, maybe a friend of my parents?
"I see my lovely creation is helping you out through your journey?"
'Oh no, here it comes' I thought. He was going to try something with Harry and from what Harry had told me, I guessed it wouldn't come as a soft punishment either.
"Please don't hurt him, as much as I hate to admit it, he's already helped us so much."
The King looked at me with a hurt expression on his face. Had I done something wrong? Had I said, expressed something that upset him? I took a few steps back from him, scared he would try something.
"I wouldn't hurt my son and I wouldn't hurt you." He smiled.
For some reason, my heart seemed to calm at his words but my head remained a jumble of thoughts that I couldn't even process.
Suddenly I felt something on my shoulder and I jumped as I turned around to find a now completely functional Harry, glaring up at the man he loved so much. How could he be this cold towards him? I got that things were difficult between the two of them, and I never understood or thought much of adult bickering but still if they loved each other, they should just learn to tolerate each other, shouldn't they?
"Leave." Harry spat and he turned around and began walking towards the hut.
He called my name softly as he reached its entrance to signal me to follow him but for some reason I couldn't move from my position. I stared at Zayn and as he stared back I felt that feeling in my stomach again.
"Lily!" Harry yelled but my body refused to move.
"I'm sorry, y-y-your magis-"
"Please, call me Zayn. I should probably leave you guys then, but this won't be the last time I see you, Lily. I wouldn't let the girl I saved all those years ago become too curious about her saviour, would I?" He winked, kissed my hand and disappeared within a matter of seconds.
Suddenly I couldn't feel my legs. I felt like I was going to fall over, he was my saviour? That's impossible, Harry said he couldn't get anywhere near a human without attacking them and killing them. Had he been lying? I finally walked back inside the hut and sat down expectedly looking at Harry who lay down with a frown on his face.
He looked over to me and his eyebrows heightened and I knew exactly what that look meant.
"You know what! Were you lying to me? He seems like a perfect gentleman and he is my saviour! Do you know how much that means to me? And he took off before I could say thank you!" My eyes grew wide with anger and Harry just sat up and looked down before giving me the saddest glance I had ever seen in my short life.
"I'm sorry, Lily. Truly I am, but he is too dangerous to be around. I wasn't lying when I told you what he does, it completely boggled my mind when he didn't harm you but I guess his protectiveness over you overrules his hunger for humans." Harry said before laying back down on his pathetic excuse for a bed.
"He's disgusting...they both are." I heard Jordan's little voice say behind me and he remained in his little ball.
It was only mid-day but the amount of emotions that I had worked up the past half an hour had left me tired enough to sleep for days. Abruptly, Harry stood up and ran at full vampire speed out of the hut. I had no idea where he was going but I decided to join Jordan and take a little nap.
The dream I had haunted me a little. All I could see was blood everywhere, dripping off the walls of the hut and as I turned to run out, a figure stood there. It paused for a bit until it was joined by another figure and as they came out into the light, I froze.
'Mum, Dad?' They smiled at me and stood just inside the hut's entrance.
I couldn't help but smile back but it quickly faded when I saw an endless stream of blood protrude from their mouths. My heart stopped for a second and then as they fell to the ground, I saw another figure wielding a knife behind them.
'Murderer!' I screamed and ran towards the figure angrily but before I saw their face, I woke up.
I walked outside slowly. Dark already? How long was I sleeping for? I looked over to my right and saw Harry sitting by a fire I'm guessing he had made. I slowly made my way over to him and he smiled as I sat across from him.
"Been a long day?" He laughed and made his way towards me, planting his butt on the spot next to mine.
I was glad that Jordan was still sleeping. I couldn't have him bad mouth Harry whilst I was trying to get to know him. I must have seemed so naïve towards those vampires, so childish, so pathetic. I didn't expect to be answered but I guess Harry couldn't help but read my thoughts every now and then.
"What you did today was extremely brave. You faced the single most powerful being on Earth and survived. I can honestly tell you that no human is alive to tell that." He laughed and I pushed my shoulder into his jokingly.
"So what's the plan?" I asked curiously which just made Harry scoff.
"I will protect you guys and you can live out your normal human lives here, as simple as that. I already ran off to the store earlier on today and got you guys a few things."
"Don't shopkeepers become suspicious? You're a vampire and quite the famous one I'm guessing so they all know you only drink blood. Don't they ask questions?"
My question seemed to make him break into a fit of laughter. What did I say that was that funny? I'm not a comedian so why does he keep laughing at me?
"They don't ask me questions because if they do and they step over the boundaries, then they know I can have them killed which I've never done before, but still, they don't like to take chances. I can read their minds so I know that the only reason they are polite and don't ask a question is to get me out of their shop as quickly as possible."
For the rest of the night we talked, laughed and of course, I kept a bit of my distance. I didn't want to get too personal in case he turned on us.
