Saeran doesn't know what to say. He was feeling uncomfortable speaking to Rika, but that's nothing compared to the repulsion coursing through him now. But even more than him, Y/n struggles to hold herself together. Strong, but not indestructible.
She sits on the edge of the bed hunched over with her face parallel to the ground. Her arms are tightly tucked into her shaking form and Saeran can only imagine that a billion things are running through her head. "Y- Y/n," his own voice wavers as he hesitantly steps in front of her. Does she even want to be near him right now?
She doesn't react. Rather, she doesn't notice. Saeran swallows. He lowers himself to his knees beside her, just barely in her peripheral vision. Her leg twitches out of rhythm and her eyes are painfully dry. He whispers, "Y/n."
Her gaze moistens immediately, her head tucked to her chest, arms coiling tighter. Her jaw is clenched tightly; her leg shakes faster.
Should he hug her? Shut up? Leave her alone? Tell her everything will be okay? "Y/n," he breathes again, scooting slightly closer to her. "Talk to me... please."
Her arms rip from around her only to clench at her legs. They won't stop moving. Her eyes shut and her chest heaves. "S—" her nails dig into the thin fabric covering her legs. He catches them before they can do anymore damage. She flinches, but doesn't pull away. "Saeran," her eyes open and she squeezes his hand tightly, bringing them to her chest. "I feel more disgusting than when—"
"You don't have to say it," Saeran uses his free hand to pull her trembling form against him. She's still and doesn't return the embrace, but to his relief, she gently leans against him.
"I don't think I'll be satisfied with just escaping this place," Y/n spits. Her tone is surprising to herself and misrepresents the crushing pain gnawing through her on the inside. "I knew she did terrible things to you, but I feel like I'm only just starting to understand some of what you went through. The physical pain is one thing but this..." She pinches her eyes shut and take a deep breath. She doesn't want to cry because of that lunatic anymore. "She didn't just take away what was supposed to be a good memory for us... God, Saeran how did you deal with this for so long? I haven't even been here for a week and I already—"
His thumb swipes at the side of her eye and for a moment, she has to question whether a tear really did fall. "I was young and drugged... I just lied to myself and did as I was told. But I don't want you to have to do that." He lifts her to her feet lightly and pulls her into a tight hug. This time, she returns it. Her grip is so tight that it takes Saeran a moment to find his breath. "We're gonna get out of this without having to do that. But we have just two more days until the trucks carrying the food come. I hate seeing you suffer, but if we play along with her we will be able to escape soon."
Y/n nods against him, her fingers curling into the soft fabric of his shirt. "If it doesn't get in the way of escaping," her once innocent eyes look up at him softly. "Do you think we can kill her?"
Saeran's mint eyes widen. The girl in his arms tenses immediately, her stomach slowly knotting into itself. When Saeran's hands loosen around her waist, her arms lock around him tightly. Don't let me go. Her eyes pinch shut, her jaw clenched together just as tightly. Please.
The ends of his fingertips brush gently against the bottom of her chin. Her glassy eyes meet his. His lips press against hers, softly. "Saeran," her reddening eyes plead with him, tugging gently on the bond between them. Another kiss. Just enough for Y/n to still feel the shape his lips when he pulls away.
"I'll look into it."
