In which Tony finds out Peter is British
(It's a working title lol)
Peter Parker was quite excited.
Mr. Stark needed to pick something up from his coworkers in London and decided to take Peter with him. They would be visiting there for an entire week!
London is actually Peter's hometown; he was born and raised there until his thirteenth birthday, causing excitement to bubble in his stomach at the concept of revisiting his former home and perhaps even seeing familiar faces.
Since traveling to the states, a few difficulties became prominent.
The most frustrating struggle has been hiding his accent. After witnessing the numerous stereotypes Americans had about those from the UK, Peter concluded it'd be easier to get through high school if he'd exclusively use his accent around May.
Though when he's in his hometown, he wasn't sure how well he'd do on remembering to hold it in
Peter rolled over on his bed and grabbed his ringing phone.
Dang, whos calling me this early?
he tapped the screen and winced at the bright glow
peeling open his eyes, he read the caller ID:
INCOMING CALL FROM 'DOCTOR STARK SIR'
He hurriedly tapped accept with newfound energy, his brain apparently forgetting all about his deprivation of sleep, and held the phone up to his ear.
okay, don't say anything stupid, Peter, play it cool
"He-hey, Mr. Stark!" he stammered into the phone.
Wow, smooth.
mentally slapping himself, he waited to hear the response of his mentor
"Hey, kid. Are you ready to go?"
Wait, what? We don't have to leave for another few hours, right?
"Yeah- yeah, I'm ready. I can't wait!" he lied.
Sure it was genuine; he couldn't wait, but he was not ready to go.
In fact, he was still in bed.
"Good to know because happy will be outside your apartment in five minutes," he heard Mr. Stark vocalize from the opposite end.
Five minutes? You couldn't have told me earlier?
"Okay! Bye, Mr. Stark"
"Yeah, see you, kid."
He clicked "end call" and all but chucked his phone across his room.
shoot, I have to hurry
Springing onto his feet, he clumsily raced to his closet and yanked open the doors, scanning through his options.
Deciding he didn't have time to be a perfectionist, he grabbed the first science pun t-shirt he saw (that said 'if you believe in telekinesis, raise my right hand'), a basic pair of grey socks, and blue jeans.
He got dressed in record time, grabbed his suitcase from beside his desk, and bolted out the door.
Two minutes later, he saw a black car roll up to the front of his apartment.
the driver rolled the window down and sighed in annoyment
"Get in the car, kid. We don't have all day," he grumbled.
"Oh, cheer up, Chap.", Tonys voice sang from the back seat in a terrible fake London accent
Peter mentally cringed at how bad the accent was, but still got in the backseat of the car
oh boy, this is going to be a long trip
taking a deep breath, he plastered a smile onto his face and greeted the oait kindly,
"Hey, Mr. Stark. Hey, Happy!"
Happy only rolled up the divider in the car.
Tony snorted from beside him
"oh cheer up, Hap"
he then turned to Peter, clapping a hand on his shoulder,
"Well? Are you excited over yonder, mate?", he asked, once again in his fake accent.
Peter Visibly cringed this time at the fakeness of his accent. he nearly impulsively replied 'no one says that, Mr. stark', but he managed to swallow his words and fake laugh
"After we pick some material up from my coworkers, we are going to serve in an Orphanage named 'Mr. Humphry's home for children", stated Tony, looking Peter in the eye (Yes, I am aware that there are no orphanages in London, but we're going to roll with it for the story's sake)
Peter's eyes widened.
That was the Orphanage that peter grew up in until we were transferred to America to live with may.
He lived there for roughly nine years, so what if he were recognized and Mr. Stark figured it out?
It's not that Peter was ashamed of his culture, no. Still, often he is treated differently as an immigrant, so he tends to not tell people anymore
"okay... how long until we get to the airport?", he asked, trying to play it cool, even though he could hear his own heart pounding rapidly
"ten minutes", Happy shouted from the front seat.
he shuddered. He didn't like planes
in fact, he was terrified of them.
Peter was in a plane crash when he was younger, and the impact left both of his parents dead, and Peter deaf. Peter only gained back his hearing almost a year ago (when he was bitten by the spider).
"Are you okay, kid? You look like a polar bear in a blizzard; you're so pale."
Peter looked over to see Tony smiling at his own joke, but there was clearly concern hidden behind his eyes
"Yeah. Yeah. I'm okay", he replied, maybe a tad too quickly
Tony accepted his answer but still didn't change his concerned expression.
Five minutes later, they arrived at the airport.
Peter felt a feeling of dread build up in his stomach as he stepped out of the car.
Tony put a hand on his shoulder and steered him inside the airport.
he led them down the stairs of the airport and into a garage where there were private jets.
Tony walked up to one, and opened the door
"Go on in."
Peter gulped and got into the plane, followed by tony and Happy.
Once they got in and buckled up, Tony took one look at Peter's face.
"parker? are you good?", he asked, a look of concern washed over his face
Peter looked down at his hands, "y-yeah. I'm ok. It's just that... I was in a plane crash when I was younger."
Tony's face turned from concern to shock, but he quickly masked it.
Happy's just looked confused
"In that Crash, I-I lost b-both of my parents. I only got m-my hearing back last year after the spiderbite", Peter finished, tears building up in his eyes.
"But on our way to Germany, you said that you've never been on a plane before", Happy said, brows furrowed in confusion.
"Yea-yeah. Because it's not really an experience that I love to talk about", Peter whispered, fighting back tears
Peter then felt a firm hand squeeze his shoulder comfortingly. He looked up and saw Mr. Stark with a reassuring smile on his face,
"don't worry, kid", Tony said, "Trust me when I say that I hired the best driver for this plane"
Peter leaned into Mr. Stark's touch and nodded.
Peter felt the plane take off, and he squeezed his eyes shut, and tried to control his breathing. once they were in the air, Peter relaxed, and leaned back into his seat. he could fairly feel the plane moving any more!
Peter took his headphones and Starkpad out of his backpack, and turned on a movie.
The flight went by very fast, and they touched down in London, England.
once they got off the plane, they all made their way over to the limo that they would be taking to the orphanage
The limo was the most amazing thing that Peter had ever seen. there were swirly lights on the ceiling, massive speakers, long windows, and curvy seats
Peter stood frozen at the front of the limo until Tony taped his shoulder, making Peter jump
"are we driving, or catching flies?", asked Tony, raising an eyebrow
"s-sorry", said Peter, sitting down
the ride was very long, but it seemed short in the fun limo
once they arrived in Dartford, the driver said that they were getting close to the Orphanage.
Peter took in a sharp breath, and paled dramatically. what if Tony figures out I lived in that orphanage? will he still see me the same way?
Tony tapped Peters shoulder, "are you ok?"
Peter nodded, and went back to watching his movie
Tony knew something was up, but he let it go for now.
Finally, they pulled up in front of a rather large building with a massive sign on the front of it that said "Mr. Humphry's home for children"
Peter took a deep breath, and followed Tony and Happy out of the car.
the trio made their way up to the front door of the orphanage, and knocked three times. After a while, a blonde woman with a pink dress, and grey trainers answered the door.
she looked at Tony and Happy shocked and said, "Wow, Mr. Stark. I didn't expect for you to be here!", she then looked to Peter, and her eyebrows seemed to rise so high, they could have flown off at any second.
Peter looked at her with pleading eyes, silently begging her not to say anything.
The woman seemed to get the hint, and lifted her gaze back up to Tony.
"oh, please, come on in! Welcome to our home. would you like me to bring down the children?"
Tony just nodded, and the woman rushed inside.
