Time and time again, you had witnessed multiple of Veronica's failed flings. When you, Betty, and Kevin met her, Veronica went into full detail about her past relationships. It painted a clear view of the men in New York, but Veronica had hopes that the opposite sex in Riverdale.
Her first attempt at some semblance of love was Chuck Clayton. The star of the football team had taken an interest in Veronica ever since she stepped foot in Riverdale High. Who could blame him too? Everyone's eyes were on Veronica; she was beautiful. You took note on the way her eyes light up when someone dishes out gossip and you marveled at the smile she gave you when she was just hanging out with her friends. Friends. That's what you and Veronica were, no matter how hard you wished you were more. From what you could tell, Veronica was straight; and if she did test the waters with someone, it would probably be Betty. The two girls had gotten very close, not to say you weren't close with Veronica.
But none of that mattered now. Veronica would be going out with Chuck this evening and there was nothing to be done about it.
"What will you wear?" Kevin's eyes were wide while awaiting Veronica's answer. The raven haired girl shrugged, causing Kevin to roll his eyes.
"Probably just this," Veronica said, gesturing to her outfit. Your eyes drifted to her dress, which fit her form perfectly. You offered her a shy smile, one that she returned.
"You look great," you commented, "Chuck is a lucky guy." Veronica blushed hard at your words, causing your smile to widen.
"Thanks Y/N," she said, "I hope this goes well." Before anyone else could speak, the bell rang. Veronica sighed and shot you a cheerful smile. "Wish me luck!" You watched as she walked out of the lounge. You watched with longing and Kevin picked up on it.
"Y/N, despite my lack of experience in this area, I'm pretty sure staring at the girl you like won't make her like you." You hit his chest gently and grabbed your bag off the couch. You started off in the direction of your next class, Kevin following close behind.
"I'm not in the mood to talk about this, Kev," you said quietly. Kevin let out a long sigh, causing you to turn your head and give him an annoyed look. "I'm going to be late, make your advice quick." Kevin grabbed your arms, pulling you to the side of the hallway.
"I'm just gonna say, you gotta have hope, Y/N. Veronica is looking for love, in any form." His serious tone didn't waver as he spoke. "If you try, Veronica might find that love in you." You nodded and Kevin smiled. "I'll see you after class." You headed off to your English class, going over what your friend had said. Maybe there was a chance for you after all.
Later during the week, you found out that Veronica hadn't found that love in Chuck. A few days after the worst date of her life, Veronica exacted her revenge on the football team's whorish ways. You came closer to her in that week; as you helped her find the guy's playbook. Your admiration only grew as you watched her fire reek beautiful havok.
"Hey, Y/N," Kevin waved his hand in front of your face, breaking you from your thoughts. You looked up at him as he tilted his head in the direction of Veronica. She was on the couch, sitting next to Archie as he talk about his latest demo. You look over at Kevin, who now gives you a sympathetic look. You let out a soft sigh, trying to ignore the pull in your heart.
"Y/N, you wanna come over later and have a listen?" You looked back over at Archie, whose eyes were now on you. "B and V are coming over, and Jughead will be there. Kevin, you're welcome to as well." Kevin smiled at the redheaded boy and shook his head.
"As much as I would love to listen to you truism love songs, I have a date with Joaquin." Kevin looked over, smiling wickedly. "But Y/N doesn't have any plans, right?" Your heartbeat accelerated as you looked back over at Archie and Veronica.
"I actually have a project for Ms. Waters class, so I -"
"That thing?! That's not due till next Wednesday," Kevin said with a grin. "Y/N will be there." You held Kevin's gaze, ready to pounce when Veronica spoke up.
"Great!" She stood up from her seat next to Archie and walked over to sit by you. "We need to hang out more," she rested her hand on your shoulder, "we should make plans for the weekend!" You bashfully nodded your head, Veronica smiled.
"We should," you added, "it'd be fun." Her brown eyes were bright as she looked at you, causing a smile to bloom on your face. You looked over at Kevin who was grinning at you.
"I'll see you two at my place then," Archie said, pulling your attention to him. You and Veronica nodded at his words, and then the boy left.
"He's so handsome," Veronica said, leaning over to whisper in your ear. If it weren't for her words, you would've been swayed by the tone of her voice. She was so close her breath tickled the shell of your ear, but when you realized she was talking about Archie, you scooted away.
"I mean Archie is," you looked over to Kevin for help.
"He's attractive for sure," Kevin commented, "but I think you should go for someone more refined." Veronica raised her eyebrows at him.
"What does that mean?" Kevin rolled his eyes and looked at you.
"Y/N, you understand right?" You looked at him then at Veronica. You locked with her deep brown eyes, which were full of wonder and confusion all at once.
"You go for something different from the 'small-town boy' trope," you clarified. She let out a soft giggle. "Really, you deserve someone that's more than that label. Not saying Archie is just a small-town boy but, you need an adventure." You looked over at Kevin, "right?" He gave you a fond smile and nodded.
"Well, thank you of thinking so highly of me and who's deserving of me." You gave her a smile, trying hard not to be awkward. "I will keep that in mind when looking for someone else to date." She then stood up, brushing her hands on her skirt. You watched as she walked out the room, down the hallway to her next class.
"Smooth, Y/N, really. I mean it." You looked over at Kevin and gave him a true smile.
"Does this mean I don't have to go to Archie's?" Kevin shook his head and let out a sigh.
"Oh no, you're still going." Kevin said, standing up and grabbing his bag. "Text me the details," he said as he walked away, "I want to know everything." You let out an exasperated sigh as your friend walked away. The bell rang, signalling the time to move, but you stayed on the couch, unwilling to move. Veronica Lodge wanted to hang out with you, giving you the perfect chance to let your true feelings go.
"That sounded great Archiekins!" Veronica stood up quickly, wrapping the performer in a hug. You shifted uncomfortably on the couch as the two embraced. Betty and Jughead smiled from their seats while you waded in a pool of your own jealously.
"Thanks Ronnie," Archie said as she pulled away from him. Veronica turned and fell onto the empty spot beside you. You smiled shyly as her hand brushed against yours, but you quickly turned away from her so she wouldn't notice upturn of your lips.
"As much as the the modern pop songs annoy me," Jughead started, "I think you got the formula down." Betty gently hit her boyfriend's shoulder, prodding him to support their friend. "What? The song was good!" Archie laughed and you felt Veronica giggle as well.
The rest of the night seemed to drag for you. Veronica was busy flirting with Archie, leaving you with Betty and Jughead. You had nothing against the couple, but your attention was focused more on Veronica than anyone else. Granted, it was hard to look at her at times. Archie took it upon himself to teach her a few chords on the guitar. The way his hand grazed hers made your heart burn with jealousy. By the end of the night, you just wanted to go home.
"It's kind of late, I'm going to head home." You grabbed your bag and waved goodbye to the others in the garage. You pushed the door open, but before you could go, you felt a soft hand catch a hold of your wrist. You turned your head and your gaze fell on Veronica.
"We need to make plans," she said with a cheerful smile on her features. "How about after school tomorrow? A sleepover?!" You couldn't bear to crush that grin, that happiness in her eyes so you nodded; despite your grudges and bruised heart.
"Sounds good to me," you said, feigning cheerfulness. Veronica raised an eyebrow at your tone and opened her mouth to comment. You simply shook your head and met her eyes. "I'll tell you about it later," you said, referencing your tone of voice. Before Veronica could protest, you were already out the door and heading back home
When you had packed for Veronica's you had butterflies tickling your tummy with nerves about spending the night; but when you were standing at her door, it felt like a stampede of wildebeest spreading your anxiety. You shifted your weight on your feet trying to ignore your restlessness in any way you could. The temptation to run away and fake illness was strong; because the girl of your dreams was waiting inside while you were a hot mess. Luckily, Veronica opened the door and greeted you; thus giving you no chance of escape.
"Y/N! Come inside! My mom made cookies." You smiled at her warmth, as it instantly set ease to your fears. You followed her inside the Lodge family apartment. The decor never ceased to amaze you, especially when you first came over to Veronica's with Betty.
"Oh hello Y/N," Hermione greeted, "care for a cookie?" You smiled and graciously took one from the pan. You made small talk with Veronica's mom, about school and the rest of your group of friends. After you and Veronica finished your cookies, you were lead to her room.
"So what are we going to do," you asked awkwardly, setting your bag down. Veronica smiled and walked over to a shelf.
"I figured we could play a game or two before we went to bed and watch movies until we fall asleep. How does that sound?" You nodded in support of her idea, noticing that she didn't bring up the conversation from yesterday. "Would You Rather, first? Or Truth Or Dare first?" You felt your throat go dry at the game titles. Both games where you were screwed either way in regards of hiding your feelings for Veronica. Perfect.
"My vote is for Would You Rather," you said, trying to suppress your recurring nerves. Veronica nodded and walked over to her bed. You stared, wondering what she was doing until she patted the space in front of her.
"Sit, relax. It's just a game." You nodded shyly and sat on her bed, facing her. She look stunning, with her relaxed attire. Her makeup was off as well, but that only added to her glow. "You ready Y/N, I have a few dinger questions for you." You laughed and nodded at her question.
The first rounds of the game went without a hitch. You actually found yourself having fun rather than freaking out. That was, until Veronica's last question.
"Would You Rather date me or Betty? And by date I mean everything that entails." Your breath caught in your throat at her words. You looked into her eyes and you could see she noticed your slight panic. "It's okay Y/N, you don't have to answer. I was just being-"
"You," you whispered and Veronica stopped mid sentence. You noticed a small smile creep up on Veronica's lips at your answer and a wave of confidence washed over you. "How about we switch to Truth Or Dare. I feel that Would You Rather has run it's course." Veronica nodded and shifted on her bed.
"Okay V, truth or dare?" Veronica thought for a moment, tapping her finger against her chin.
"Truth," she said, seeming proud of herself.
"What do you really see in Archie? It's stumping me and Kevin. He thinks it's his body." Veronica let out a laugh at your words, causing you to giggle as well.
"I mean, I don't know. Kevin's a little right but that only goes so far ya know? He's just nice, really nice." You raised your eyebrows and she smiled. "What?"
"Is that it? He's just nice?" Veronica nodded and you rolled your eyes. "Remember what I told you? You deserve someone who's an adventure, who truly cares about you. Someone who doesn't get caught up in the all the drama of High School. Archie is not that person. He's not a risk, he's simply safe." Veronica nodded, internalizing your words.
"You're right," she said softly, looking up and meeting your gaze once more. "Okay, back to the game. Truth or dare?" You smiled softly, thinking over which option to choose.
"Truth," you said with a bigger smile. Veronica laughed softly.
"Oh we're both no fun," she shook her head, "why were you upset yesterday?" You swallowed your nerves, thinking over on what to say.
"I get concerned when you're near a guy, even if it is nice Archie. After your problems with Chuck, I just want to you be okay, because that was awful." Veronica reached over, resting a hand on yours. You held her brown gaze, wondering what she was thinking.
"Thank you," she whispered, giving you a smile as well. "But you don't need to worry Y/N. I got through the whole 'Sticky Maple' thing just fine. Helped a lot of other girls too." You just shook your head and Veronica frowned. "What?"
"That's not the only reason why I was upset." Your felt your heart pounding in your chest as Veronica awaited your answer. It was now or never. "I was jealous. And maybe a little angry because Kevin and I have been trying to point you in the right direction and we believe you should be with me. I know you as well as Betty and love you so much more." You released the breath you didn't realize you had been holding in. "I want you to love me that same way, but I know that it's not going to happen. So I'm sorry for this."
Veronica didn't move for a bit, her eyes watching you with a tenderness you could have mistaken for returned affection. You curled your lips together, thinking over on what to do.
"Truth or dare," you whispered and Veronica's lips quirked upwards a little.
"Dare," she responded and you smiled shyly.
"I dare you to go out on a date with me. Just one, and you can back out at any time." Veronica smiled and nodded. A wave of relief hit you and her expression. "Good," you breathed out, smiling widely at her.
"Truth or Dare," Veronica asked, leaning closer to you. You blushed at the closeness and without thinking you spoke up, giving her an answer. Luckily, the answer she wanted.
"Dare," you whispered and Veronica smiled.
"I dare you to kiss me," she whispered. Her breath tickled your lips, due to how close she was. You smiled softly, leaning forward as you did. Her lips brushed against yours and gently pushed forwards. Your hand went to the back of her head, pulling her closer as you kissed. Her soft lips against yours was a feeling you never wanted to forget. Your ran your fingers through her soft black hair and a small groan escaped her lips. Your parted from her, looking into her eyes.
"You were right," she whispered, "you are an adventure." You blushed before leaning up to her lips again, melting under her touch. The and that wasn't encased in her dark tresses went to her face, cupping her cheek. This touch sent something through Veronica she hadn't felt before. It lit a fire in her heart that no boy could ever reach. She moved towards you, straddling your lap as you were still sitting up. Your hand that was in her hair traveled to her clothed back, holding her close to you because you finally could.
After a few more moments, Veronica moved away from your lips to catch her breath. You leaned your forehead against hers, sharing your air. Your hand moved for her cheek and brushed the hair that had fallen in front of her face. Your thumb trailed on her hairline as you pushed the raven curtain of hair away. You smiled at her softly, staring into her eyes.
"Can we do this every time I sleep over?" Veronica threw her head back and laughed. Your smile became wider as you watched her. You finally had the girl of your dreams, and it was so much more than you thought it ever could be.
