Cameron's POV
I sat in a lone coffee shop. The smell of freshly baked bread and cake filled the air. It was currently five in the morning. The sun was just rising. I had got no sleep and my eyes felt heavy. It was as if just the aroma of coffee was keeping me from falling into a deep sleep.
A figure sat down next to me, I didn't need to look to know who it was.
"Any luck?" I asked. There was silence. I took that as a no. I sighed. He had been missing for three weeks now. Every night we'd go out and look for him. If anything, he had just run away. Actually, I was certain he had. As I had contact with him. Every few days he'd send me a letter, telling me of his whereabouts.
I only joined everyone in searching for him so they would not be suspicious that I knew of his whereabouts. He had asked me not to tell them, he wouldn't give me a valid reason as to why though. Well, in my opinion his reason wasn't valid.
But the lack of sleep and worry that everyone was experiencing was a bit too much for me to handle.
"What if he's dead?" the voice asked. I turned around to face Taylor. This is what I was talking about. Taylor was distraught over the last three weeks. He blamed himself for Shawn's disappearance. In fact, so did everyone else. News had gotten out about their falling out. Taylor had been blamed for it. Although, no-one was aware of the gross details that went with their falling out. All everyone else knew was that they had a fight, that's it.
I gripped on the stack of envelopes that I had collected in the past three weeks. There were precisely seven of them.
It upset me that he didn't tell anyone else where he was. I think he purposely wants people to worry. It's as if he faked his own death.
The last three weeks have been hell on earth. The day after Shawn went missing, his parents had contacted the police and filed him as a missing person.
Three days after he had gone missing, the fans were notified. Twitter was chaos, the hash-tag '#findshawn' has been trending for the past few days, and is still trending to this day.
Five days after he had gone missing, Nash had tweeted about Taylor.
@NashGrier: @TaylorCaniff this is your fault.
In my opinion, It wasn't completely fair to blame Taylor for this. Nash took it too far.
Speaking of Nash, we haven't spoken either, It's not like I hadn't tried, I had tried. I had phoned and texted him numerous times but all for nothing. To be honest I had given up on him. He hurt me so much that I wasn't phased by his silence.
"What's in your hand?" Taylor asked while sipping a cup of coffee he had just received from a waiter. I sighed and looked down.
I took out the first letter I had received from Shawn. I carefully reopened the already torn envelope and slipped out a folded piece of paper. I opened it and I began to quickly read through it again, just to make sure I wanted Taylor to read it.
'Dear Cameron,
You will be the only one receiving these letters. I've chosen to only write to you because I feel that you can understand what I'm feeling and why I left.
I need time, Cameron. I need time away from everyone. I am currently staying in London. I am under a different name so no-one can find me. I need to stay here and rethink the last two years. I can't stand to be there anymore. Everything reminds me of him, every place brings back memories of when we had been together and of when we were there together. It's too much for me to handle. Especially knowing he never loved me. It hurts too much Cameron.
The night of my Record Label Party he had come to see me. Congratulate me. What he had told me upset me immensely. He also returned the ring.
It was all too much to have my heart broken twice, so I left.
These letters have the address of the place I am staying at in London.
I am trusting you not to tell anyone where I am. The only reason I even bothered with this is so that you know I am safe and not dead.
Please Cameron, tell no-one. I am trusting you with this.
-Shawn'
I would be completely going against what he's asked me to, but seeing Taylor and the fans cry almost everyday was unbearable.
"Cameron?" Taylor asked. I turned around and faced him. I reluctantly handed him the paper. He took it and looked at me oddly.
As he read it I could see his eyes tear up. He put the paper down and looked me dead in the eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me Cameron?" he asked. "He told me not too." I replied. Taylor angrily stood up. "Cameron, what the fuck would make you think you should listen to him! He is listed as a missing person Cameron! If you didn't tell me you should have at least told his parents they think their son is dead! And the fans Cameron! The fans think they have lost an idol!" Taylor said, tears pouring down his face. He picked up the paper and gripped it in his hands. He started to walk towards the door. "Where are you going?" I questioned Taylor. He turned around and looked at me dead in the eye. "I'm going to get Shawn."
//
I arrived at home feeling an immense amount of guilt for going back on what Shawn had asked me. I reevaluated the situation and found that maybe it was for the best.
I heard a small knock on my door. At first, I thought it was my imagination, but then the knocking grew louder. I quickly rushed over to the door and opened it.
To my surprise there stood my mother and my sister Sierra. My mom was dressed in a long purple maxi dress and Sierra was dressed in a short green dress. They both looked beautiful.
"Mom, Sierra!" I shouted as I engulfed both of them in a huge hug. "Oh my sweetheart you're so handsome!" My mom exclaimed as she and Sierra walked in my apartment. I quickly grabbed their bags and carried it in. "Such a gentleman." Sierra exclaimed. "This place is so depressing, it needs a woman's touch!" Sierra commented. "Yes Cameron when are you going to get a lady friend?" my mom asked with a smirk. I let out a small laugh. "I don't know mom." I said.
I showed my mom to the guest bedroom and my sister to the second bedroom.
"Are you going to cook for us Cameron?" Sierra asked with a smirk. I let out a loud chuckle. "I'm not much of a cook but I'll try my best." I said. "That's all that counts!" my mom said while walking in the kitchen. She started expecting my cupboards. "You really need more glasses Cameron, you only have three. We can go buy you some tomorrow." my mom said. Sierra snorted. "Mom, he lives alone, he already had two glasses too many." she said. My mom looked at her oddly. "Doesn't matter!" she said.
"Cameron. you've been awfully quiet. Not excited to be blessed with our company?" My mom asked. I shook my head. "No no I love that you guys are here... it's just. " I said slowly. "It is the Shawn thing?" My mom asked. I shook my head. "He's okay. I know that." I said. My mom gave me a sympathetic smile. "Then whats wrong Cameron?" Sierra asked. We all sat down on the couch.
"I need to tell you something." I said. "Go ahead." my mom said while smiling.
This was it, this was the moment of truth. I couldn't go back now. I had to tell them. Even though Nash wasn't here to help me. The thing that scared me the most was the possibility of losing the little bit of family I had left.
"I think I'm... I think I'm gay." I said slowly. It was so difficult to get that sentence out. It felt as if my throat was closing. My heart started beating really fast and my breathing increased. I braced myself for the impact. I tried my best to avoid eye contact with them.
My mom sighed and then smiled. "I know sweetheart." she said softly. "It's obvious." Sierra added. "Www-haat?" I choked out. "A mother knows her child." My mom said. "And a sister knows her brother." Sierra added.
"We don't hate you Cameron, we love you. And we don't care who you love." My mom said.
It felt like all the stress and tiredness I had experienced over the past three weeks had just disappeared. They accepted me. They accepted me. This was all I wanted, except for Nash of course.
I felt happy, but a different kind of happy, not the same happy as I felt when I was with Nash.
"So." my mom said with a smirk. "Have anyone special?" she asked. A smile appeared on Sierra's face. "Is it Nash?" she asked, not really sounding sure. "It's complicated." I quickly said.
Her eyes widened so did my moms. "You and Nash. Oh my gosh I knew it!" Sierra squealed. "We aren't together anymore though. At least I don't think so." I said truthfully.
"Time will tell." My mom said. I nodded. I tired not to think about Nash because I just got upset.
"Now, come on, let's put on a movie and watch it together. Like a family again." my mom said while getting up.
"Just like old times?" Sierra asked.
"Just like old times." my mom confirmed.
