My heart is beating so hard in my chest, it feels like it might burst through.
I pace back and forth in the bedroom that Newt and I share with each other. All I can think of is the worst outcomes of this situation and oh creators…Alby is going to murder us! This is just shuck great.
Newt should be done with his work soon and once he notices me missing, he’s bound to come searching. The closer the sun gets to the ground, the more sick and anxious I feel. Come on, shank, gather your courage and just tell him.
Truth be told, I’ve known about my pregnancy for two days now. As excited as I was at first, it soon turned into complete worry and dread. Not because of the baby- that’s a wonderful gift that I would never go back on. It’s because I don’t know how Newt will react or anyone in the glade. My family.
The youngest around here is Chuck and he’s known for being annoying because of his immaturity. I can’t imagine what everyone will think of a baby being here! Sadly, I’ve been distancing myself from Newt because I’ve been terrified. Every time I see him, I feel like crying and the hormones are not helping.
Our bedroom door opens and it immediately stops my pacing. I turn around to see Newt standing there with a concerned expression on his lightly freckled face. “Y/n?” He calls, walking into the space we share. I open my mouth but I hiccup instead, a tear rolling down my cheek.
Immediately, Newt is holding me to his chest, not wasting a second to comfort me. “What’s the matter, love? Are you hurt?” He inquires and I shake my head against him. “Please, tell me what I can do."
Pulling back, I look up at him and sniffle before I say anything. "Newt…” I start, having to stop and gather my breath. “I’m pregnant.” I abruptly say, knowing that it’s better to just get it out there.
A quiet gasp slips past his lips and he stands very still, looking at me with wide eyes. “P-Pregnant?!” He asks, not being able to comprehend such a thought. Nodding, I walk over to my side of the bed and pull out the pregnancy test to show him.
“How- how did you get this?"
Sighing, I look down at my feet and I feel my stomach aching again. "I missed my cycle last month, so I asked the creators for the test…. I just found out when they came up two days ago.” I explain.
Newt runs his hands through his hair, making it messier than usual. I can’t tell if he’s mad or what, which makes tears well up in my eyes again. “I’m sorry…” I croak out before the tears spill down my face.
With two fingers underneath my chin, Newt makes me look up at him. “Why are you sorry, love?” He examines my face, looking at me with so much love that it makes me ache.
“I-I didn’t know if you- if you wanted kids or not.” I stutter. “Now we’re going to have one and I’m terrified that you won’t want it.” The tears keep falling but Newt’s features soften at my words.
“Oh, love. Of course I want this child with you. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t really given kids much thought but I am so beyond excited and happy that we created life together. That I can love a mini version of you.” He coo’s, kissing my tears away.
A small smile plays at my lips and I raise my hand to push the front of his hair back. “Or a mini version of you.” I add and he agrees. “So, you’re not mad?”
“No, Y/n. I’m so happy.” Newt sits on the bed and pulls me to stand in front of him. Gently, he snakes his arm around my torso and lays his other palm on my abdomen. “Hey, little one. I’m so excited to meet you.” He whispers as he lays his forehead against me.
All I can think of is how much my love is overflowing for the man in front of me and how I can’t wait to raise a family with him.

“Klunk.” I mutter when Minho informs me that Y/n has gone into labor. Throwing down my tools, I rush over to the med-hut and push my way through the doors. From the pained whimpers that are coming from Y/n, I can tell that this is going to be a tough night.

Beautiful tiny y/e/c eyes stare back at me and I sit there in awe as I hold my newborn daughter. “She’s perfect.” I breathe out, smiling at Y/n. “She’s got your eyes and nose.” I point out and Y/n laughs, nodding at me.
“She’s got your messy blonde hair, though. Along with the adorable freckles that I love so much.” She beams, leaning her head against my shoulder as she peers down at out daughter.
“What should we name her?” I ask. We hadn’t really decided on a name yet and our time has ran out. A moment of quiet passes and Y/n hums while thinking.
“I don’t know. Aubrie? Michelle? Faith?"
Thinking on it for a minute, I turn to Y/n and she lifts her head to look at me. "How about Wren?” I suggest. The biggest smile creeps onto Y/n face and she excitedly nods.
“Wren. That’s perfect, Newt. Our little Wren.” She sighs out, the exhaustion hitting her. I lean over and kiss Y/n’s forehead and encourage her to get some rest. Reluctantly, Y/n complies and I lay our sleeping daughter down in her crib.
“Goodnight, Wren.”

You can imagine how nervous I was to introduce Wren to the boys. Minho was the first to meet her, seeing as he’s kind of decided to be the uncle to her. To my surprise, he was super gentle with her and almost giddy as he held her. “Wow! You actually did something right for once, shank.” He teased Newt.
Thomas then joined us and he was also very caring with her. “Uh- are you sure about this?” He asked nervously as we let him hold our baby.
I laughed as I reassured him and felt so happy in that moment. If anything, it was a realization that Minho and Thomas would help to keep Wren safe when she needed it.
A few days passed and it was time for the rest of the gladers to meet her. So, Alby told everyone that they could join together in the kitchen if they wanted to see Wren. Which ended up with boys flocking in and out of the building to get a look at the new greenie.
Gally was one of the biggest surprises because he was very nice about seeing her and even asked to hold her. When Chuck came up, he was extremely hesitant to hand her over to the young boy. “Just be careful, slinthead.” He warned Chuck and stood nearby in case anything were to happen.
“Hey, darling. How’s our little girl doing?” Newt asked when he came to check in on us. He’s been in such a good mood since Wren was born and has already lived up to being an incredible father.
“Hey there. She’s doing great. I can tell that everyone already loves her, which is just making me so overjoyed.” I inform him, smiling as Gally and Minho are making faces at the baby and Wren shows her toothless grin.
Over the next few years, Wren grows up with a huge family of gladers. She definitely looks like a perfect combination of Newt and me. She’s closest to Minho, Thomas and - surprisingly - Gally as they all have become the weird uncles to her.
Minho tends to be the trouble maker of the three, while Thomas is super laid back. Then Gally is the responsible one and is very protective of Wren and her safety, which has brought Newt and Gally on much better terms.
But of course, Wren has become daddy’s girl and loves to work in the gardens with Newt, as well as other chores. The only fear that I’ve ever had is the thought of Wren wandering into the maze. When I voiced this nightmare to Alby, he had the builders create a gate around the entrances to protect her. Which I’m grateful for.
Overall, Wren has brought so much joy into the lives of the glade and we couldn’t be happier to have her in our lives. “I love you, Y/n.” Newt says as he hugs me from behind and kisses my shoulder.
“And I love you, Newt. So much.” The both of us look over at our daughter as she plays tag with the boys and seeing the pure joy that she’s having makes my heart swell with love. This is our patchwork family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
