chapter thirty

I sat on the couch, my nerves seeming to get the best of me.

I know Soulla. I have talked to her multiple times. I have sat in the living room with her while I waited on Blake.

So why am I so nervous all of a sudden?

"Jess?"

I don't look over. Instead, I continue staring at the wall in front of me.

This is nothing new.

I shouldn't be worrying like this. My hands definitely should not be shaking.

"Jess!"

I look over at him, smiling.

"What's up?"

"What? Nothing."

"You're just staring at the wall."

I shrug. "I don't know what to do."

"Abbie was trying to talk to you."

I look over at her.

"You were? Oh I'm so sorry."

"I was trying to tell you that you looked pale. Are you alright?"

I nod. "I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"No."

"Are you nervous?"

I look back over at Blake, nodding slowly.

"Why? You know my mom, and you know that she loves you."

"She does?"

"Duh."

I smile. "Remember we have Parker's birthday party tonight."

"We have to go to that?"

I shrug. "I do. I don't know about you."

"I leave in a few days."

I sigh, looking up at him. "I'm aware."

"So let's skip the party. Do something after."

I look over at him.

"As tempting as that is, I already promised Parker I would be there tonight."

"You did?"

"Yes."

"Oh."

"But we can do something tomorrow. I promise."

He smiles. "Tomorrow it is."

"Dinner is ready!"

I stand up, walking towards the dining room.

"That's a lot of food." Abbie says as she sits down. "Mom, you always make more food than needed when we have someone over."

Blake and I give each other a look as Soulla sits down, smiling at us.

"So what all is there?"

Soulla begins to describe everything she put on the table, and I stare at her.

"Jess? You okay?"

I look over at Blake, nodding.

"Uh, its just a lot."

"Well I wanted to give you options."

"What? Why?"

"Because Blake said that you haven't had Greek food."

"That's true."

"So I made a bunch for you to try."

"But-"

"Don't say anything else." Blake whispers, poking my side to shut me up.

"Don't you dare try and tickle me."

He smirks. "I did no such thing."

"Yes you did. You poked my side. You know I'm extremely ticklish."

"No I didn't."

"You've only tickled me a million times."

He laughs.

"Not funny."

He stops laughing and begins to grab some of the food and putting it on his plate, digging in immediately.

"Wait!"

I look over at Blake. "What?"

"I forgot to do something."

"Do what?"

"Mom? Can we be excused really fast?"

Soulla smiles. "Of course."

Blake grabs my hand, pulling me with him in the direction of his bedroom.

"Blake? What are we doing?"

"I keep forgetting. I have no idea why because of how important it is to me, but I still do."

"What is?"

He walks over to his closet, grabbing a small velvet box off of the shelf.

"Uh, Blake? I hope that isn't a ring."

"What? Why would it be a ring?"

"Small velvet box?"

"Oh, right. It's not a ring."

"Then what is it?"

"Wait, would you have said no if it was?"

I shrug. "I- I don't know. We've only been together for six months, wouldn't that be too soon?"

He chuckles. "Trust me, I'm not getting a ring for a while. I want to wait until we can actually settle down, and you're not in university."

I smile at him. "So then what is it?"

"Right!" He opens up the box, revealing a necklace. It was a little rose gold heart.

"I was going to give this to you at the dance."

"The dance? It's July!"

"I know, I know. I hate that I waited so long."

"It's okay. I love it."

"You do?"

I nod. "Of course I do."

"Good. I was actually really nervous. I know you don't really wear jewelry, and-"

"Blake?"

"Yes?"

"Just put it on."

He smiles. "Of course."

I walk into my bedroom, plopping down onto my bed. Even though I promised Parker I would go to the party tonight, I don't really want to.

"Jessica? You're dad let me in."

I sit up as Carly walks into my room, a smile on my face.

"I feel like I haven't seen you in forever."

I stand up, walking over to her and hugging her.

"That's because it's been a while." She smiles. "So, what are you wearing?"

"I'm not sure."

"You haven't even bothered to look?"

I shake my head. "I don't really want to go."

"But you promised Parker."

"I know, but something feels off."

"What do you mean?"

"It feels like something is going to happen. I can't explain it, but I just have a bad feeling about tonight."

"Do you think it's because Anderson and Savannah are going to be there? You might just be worried that they're going to start crap."

I nod. "You're right. It's probably just getting to me."

"Don't worry, after tonight you'll never have to see them ever again."

"God, I hope not."

She laughs. "Okay, let's get you ready."

I groan, standing up and walking over to my closet.

"Oh hush."

"I don't even know if I have anything to wear."

"I'm sure you do."

"Please no dresses or skirts tonight."

"Why not?"

"Because I don't feel like it? I'm in the mood for jeans."

"Fine. I'll find you something where you can wear jeans."

"Thank you."

"This is perfect."

Carly pulls out my ripped black jeans and a red crop top, grabbing my black boots to go with them.

"And you knew that I wasn't in the mood for heels either."

"I know you. When you say jeans, you want comfortable clothes. I figured a tank top, some jeans, and boots would work out for you tonight."

"And it does."

I grab everything from her, walking to the bathroom and changing. I let my hair out of it's messy bun, revealing the loose waves that I had styled for dinner with Blake's parents.

"You ready?"

Carly walks into the bathroom, smiling at me.

"Let's go."

soooo there's two more chapters and then the epilogue
