"I'm cooking a salad with rice for dinner, that alright for you Lando?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah, yeah."
Lando barely raised his eyes from his phone to answer, and you were sure he didn't even hear what you said. He had been distant recently. Not talking much, never asking about you nor being affectionate towards you. He was always on his phone, either calling or texting someone. You didn't know if he was seeing someone else or if he had problems, but you wished he would talk to you.
"When are you leaving for Abu Dhabi?" You asked him after you both sat at the table to have dinner.
"Tomorrow evening. You coming?"
You sighed. You had told him about it at least a hundred times.
"Yes, I'll be there on Saturday morning."
"Cool." He nodded, his head in his plate.
That was it, just small talks and nothing else. You wondered what had happened for him to change so radically these past few days. He was usually very touchy and talkative, he always asked about you and kept kissing and hugging you. Just like a proper loving boyfriend.
"How was your day?"
"Good." He shrugged.
You were interrupted by his phone ringing from the living room. He ran towards it and talked a few minutes with someone before hanging up and sitting in front of you again.
"Are you ok?"
"What? Of course I am, why wouldn't I?" He chuckled nervously.
"Are you seeing someone else?"
"Someone else? You mean like..?" You nodded. "No! Of course I'm not seeing anyone else. It's just you, Y/N, it's always been you."
You sighed in relief and you had to take a deep breath to not fall in tears. Well, this was reassuring. At least he still loved you and he hadn't met someone else. Then why was he so distant and discreet about everything?
"I wish you could tell me what's going on. I want to help."
You covered his hand with yours and he immediately intertwined your fingers. You had missed his touch. He stared at you for a while before he finally started talking.
"If I didn't say anything, it's because I signed a non-disclosure agreement. And since we're not married I couldn't include you in it. I've been distant because I couldn't stand lying to your face and not telling you everything. I'm very sorry, Y/N."
You nodded, encouraging him to go on.
"I'm discussing with McLaren at the moment."
"McLaren?" You frowned. "Why? You want to leave their young drivers program?"
"No." He shook his head. "We're discussing about a F1 seat for next season."
You stopped breathing for a minute. Did you hear right?
"They want you to drive in F1 next season?" You whispered, not finding your voice to talk properly.
Lando nodded and a huge smile appeared on his face. You started giggling and smiling and crying with joy.
"Nothing's sure yet! They are discussing with other drivers too. I won't say I'm a F1 driver as long as the contract is not signed." He explained and you listened quietly, your hysteria falling down a bit. "But, you know, it's almost done." He started grinning again. "Actually I'm not going to Abu Dhabi tomorrow, I'm going to Woking and I'll take the plane only on Thursday morning. I'm supposed to sign tomorrow with them."
"Oh my God." You left your chair to sit down on Lando's lap, straddling his waist. You kissed his whole face, not leaving any piece of skin without the touch of your lips. You were both crying with joy and you had the taste of salt in your mouth. "I'm so so proud of you. You made it! You fucking made it, Lando!"
He sighed in comfort after kissing your lips tenderly.
"Will you come with me to Woking? I want you there when my dream finally comes true."
"Of course, count on me!" You caressed his brown hair and raised goose bumps on his skin.
"I'm so glad I finally told you, it was so hard to keep this away from you and to avoid you."
"But it was for a good cause. I'm ecstatic. There's no word to describe the pride and the joy I feel right now." You shook your head in disbelief. Your nose brushed against his in a gentle caress.
"How about you show me that in our bedroom?"
The cheeky grin on Lando's face was enough for you to guess what would happen in the room. You kissed him passionately while he stood up, holding you by the back of your thighs, to climb the stairs that led to your bedroom.
You had to hold a laugh when, on the next day, in McLaren's factory in Woking, Lando took his shirt off to pose for pictures with a McLaren shirt, and every team member had a knowing smile on their faces when they saw the scratches on Lando's back.
