"Can you take our picture?" I heard from my right. I quickly stopped in my tracks, making sure I heard this random guy right from the roar of the waters.
I smiled at him, seeing that he was pretty cute, and took his phone from his outstretched hands. It was a beautiful day at the Trevi Fountain in Rome (a/n Lizzy Miguire anyone?). The sun was shining and the crowds moved slowly, giving me time to admire the scenery.
"Of course," I beamed at him, lifting the camera to them as he got into position next to who I guessed was his brother.
Being in a great mood, I was also full blast with my sense of humor. So, I subtly turned the camera around, still making it look like I was taking their picture, but I took a picture of me instead.
"There," I smiled, turning the camera back to what it was. I quickly handed it to him, and before he could say thanks, I ran off, laughing out loud.
I continued on with my day, grabbing something to eat and then back to the fountain to make a wish.
I took out the penny I had found in my pant's pocket that morning, closing my eyes as I stood in front of the water.
I wish for something amazing to happen.
I flung the coin into the fountain, and for that second, mine was the only one that descended into the water; no one else had wished at that exact moment.
"Hey!" I heard behind me. I ignored it, however, my body tensed because I recognized his voice. "You!" he called, closer. I pretended not to hear him, but I felt his hands on me and bit my tongue. He flipped me around, and the back of my legs pressed against the rim of the fountain. He stood in close proximity of me, pressuring me to step further backwards.
"You took a picture of yourself," he accused me, making me scoff. I was about to deny it, but he lifted up the phone to show me. I smiled lightly.
"I-I'm sorry," I stuttered, thinking he was really mad. I tried slipping away while he put away his phone, but he pushed me back forcefully, and I lost my balance.
The barrier around the pool was short, so I tumbled backwards into the water, and the force of him pushing me backfired on him, pulling him in with and right on top of me.
I tried to come out of the water, but he had to pull me up because he was the one holding me down.
"I just wanted to tell you how pretty you looked in the picture," he shrugged, his hair flattened and my clothes sticking to me.
And we just smiled at each other until officials came and pulled us out.
