Niall's POV

.

The headache pounded in my skull, making my mood not the greatest. I didn't want to snap at everyone in sight, but the pounding inside screwed with my thought process.

I saw Gritz that morning at work, sighing when she smiled at me. Sometimes I felt like I liked her, but other times I knew it wasn't plausible. She was so relieving; she had a a wonderful smile, and her sense of humor was so close to mine, letting me make jokes and have someone laugh at them.

But that day I was not in the mood for anything. I just wanted to back to bed.

She looked a little offended when I wasn't smiling back at her, but I kept walking towards the counter, growling at the job I was cursed with that day; I was the guy at the hotel check-in counter who got you rooms. I had already established to most everyone around me that I was irritable, so I knew it would not go well.

When the hotel doors opened and people were able to checkout, breakfast got put out by Harry and Liam. The cooks were old, and I tried not to talk to them.

Louis and Zayn were maintenance, and Gritz usually washed and hauled the sheets and towels back to the linen closet.

"Hello," some lady smiled at me, pulling me away from watching some guy shoot cans for fun on YouTube.

"How may I help you?" I asked as nicely as I could, but she still looked slightly unimpressed.

"I'd like a room," she told me. I nodded, giving her a room card.

"Is there room service?" she wondered before she left, squinting at me. I snorted humorlessly.

"It's a hotel. Why wouldn't there be?" I basically spat. She scoffed, turning and walking to the elevators.

I grumbled to myself, going back to wasting my life on the internet.

"Niall," I heard Gritz call. I looked up, wondering what she could want. She walked up to the desk, looking concerned.

"That lady might complain now; you should try to be nicer, no matter what you're feeling," she shrugged. I knew she was only trying to help, but I was so off-put by her comment, knowing I felt something for her and that she thought lowly of me.

"Don't tell me how to do my job!" I yelled, watching her eyes darken. "If she complains, it will be her fault for being so ignorant!" One second she looked horrified that I had insulted her, but the next she looked furious. I saw her raise her hand a second too late.

The burning on my cheek made me realize how stupid I was.

"You're out of line, Niall. She was asking nicely; you were being an idiot," she growled, low enough for only me to hear. I stared at the ground, watching her shoes leave my vision. And then I knew what I had to do.

I remembered the lady's room number, hurrying up there. Knocking on the door sent fear through me, wondering if she was going to hit me, too.

"Hello," she spoke neutrally. I raised my eyes to meet hers.

"Hello, ma'am. I'm sorry for my behavior earlier. It was inappropriate, and I apologize." I waited for her to say something, and then she smiled.

"What made you change your mind?" she wondered. I furrowed my eyebrows at her, starting to speak.

"Who?" she rephrased. I understood then.

"My girl friend," I shrugged, realizing a second too late that I hadn't made the differentiation clear.

"You need to apologize to her more than me," she shrugged, putting a hand on her doorknob. I nodded, agreeing completely.

I would do more than apologize.
