Thanksgiving Day 2018

So, I thought I'd do a special holiday one shot with my newest OC Deserey (Dez)  and the Legends! If you wanna check out her story after reading this (assuming you haven't already seen it) I'll drop the cover in the AN down below, so it's easier to find. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy, and happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans out there!

------

Sara woke to the sound of clanking and cursing. Instantly, her assassin instincts kicked in. She jumped up, grabbing her knife, leaning against the wall sneakily. Sara slowly crept into the hallway, moving at a snails pace, careful not to get caught.

She tip toed down the hall, clutching her weapon, her jaw clenched tightly with anticipation. But when the assassin turned the corner into the galley, she was not met with a threatening intruder. Instead, she came face to face with two of her new team mates -- Ray Palmer and Deserey Dunet.

Sara relaxed, sighing heavily. "What are you two doing?" she asked, lowering her knife. "It's five in the morning!" She paused for a second. "Or at least by the Waverider's standards."

Dez grinned sheepishly at the assassin, two pans in her hands. "Sorry," she whispered. "Did we wake you?"

"Kinda, yeah," Sara said. She took in all the crap the two had dug out. There were pots sitting over the oven, boiling water inside, cooking noodles. On the counter, a large bowl was placed, some sort of cream smooshed inside and a mixing spoon laying next to it. A pan of rolls was layed off to the side, along with a small pot of green beans and corn. The assassin frowned at the sight. What the hell was all this?

"Oh! And to answer your question...We're making dinner," Ray said, grinning brightly.

"Dinner?" Sara asked, a little annoyed. "Ray, I just said it was five in the morning!"

"I know," he said. "But the turkey takes forever to bake, so we figured we'd get a head start."

Sara glanced back over at the oven. She hadn't noticed before, but there was a big, fat turkey cooking in the bottom shelf. Sara opened her mouth to speak, but before she could the captain was heard whining down the hallway. Evidently Ray and Deserey had woken him up as well.

"What the bloody hell is going on in here?" Rip asked, exasperated.

"Thanksgiving!" Deserey grinned. "I'm making brownies. Ray's making the pies. The turkey will be done in, uh, eight hours."

Rip blinked. "Thanksgiving?"

Dez smacked herself on the forehead. "Why do I keep forgetting you're British?" She turned to captain, a big smile on her face. "Well, you're team is full of a bunch of Americans, so now you get to experience your first Thanksgiving! Get ready to eat more than you have ever eaten before. Because that's the American way."

"...You have a whole day just dedicated to eating food?" Rip asked skeptically. Of course he had heard of Thanksgiving before, even if he had never celebrated it himself. He didn't live under a rock! Still, it sounded strange, the way she'd worded it.

"Well, technically it's to celebrate the pilgrims and Native Americans coming together," Ray said. "But the food's good too."

Mick, Leonard, and the two halves of Firestone came into the room next. The arsonist looked around, suspicious. "Why do I smell a Turkey?" he asked.

"Cause we're cooking one," Deserey told him. "Here help me butter these pans." She passed Mick and Jax a pan each, before taking a third for herself and placing the butter bucket between them. "Sara, Len, Rip, Professor, you can help Ray with the pies. Oh! And I just remembered we have cookie dough and cake mix too, so you can make that also."

Jax laughed, as he started bettering his pan without question. The chaos of the kitchen told him everything he needed to know. Thanksgiving was one of his favorite holidays. All the good food and family bonding was a blast. (Though, this would be the first big Thanksgiving he'd had in a long time. Usually it was just him and his mother, but it was still nice all the same.)

"Why don't Carter and Kendra have to help?" Sara asked. She frowned as she poured some flour into a mixing bowl for the cake.

"I sent them out to get drinks and ice," Dez said. "And also napkins...and paper cups and plates...and silver ware."

"...Gideon can fabricate all of those things here," Rip reminded her. "There was no need to send them anywhere. And there's really no need for any of this either. Gideon can fabricate the food too..."

"Oh sure," Deserey scoffed. "Suck all the fun out of it!" She and Mick were placing the unbaked brownies on the now buttered pans.

"It's not a real Thanksgiving without all the hussle and bustle," Ray agreed. He and the professor were carefully pouring the cream into pie crusts. Together, they placed the pies into the fridge, where they would chill until they were ready to eat.

"It's true," Stein nodded. "There is a lot of frantic shopping around this time. Usually people in search of a last minute turkey."

Sara snorted, as she began stirring the cake mix. She cracked some eggs into it, before stirring again. "I have not had a real Thanksgiving dinner in over five years..."

"Well, thanks to Raymond and Dede over here we're going to have enough food to last the next several weeks," Leonard said, as he organized the cookies on the pans.

Jax went back and forth, taking the pans of cookies and brownies to oven to bake, as Dez, Mick, and Leonard filled them up. "I am perfectly okay with a week long Thanksgiving."

As Ray went over to the stove to check on the boiling noodles, Sara cooed. "You know what?" the assassin grinned. "Later we should go to the Star City parade!"

Ray nodded, a huge grin on his face. "Yes! Let's do that!"

Mick shook his head in disagreement. "Central's is better," he insisted.

"Oh yeah," Jax nodded. "By a long shot."

Sara shook her head, as the young man took the bowl from her to pour it into another container, getting it ready to be placed in the oven as well. "Nuh uh!" she argued. "Star's is way cooler. We have acrobats and streamers."

"A giant turkey float," Ray added helpfully. "We even have a mascot! What does your parade have?"

"Uh, brighter colors for one," Stein said. "Star's is extremely dull. How can anyone possibly get excited for the holiday if everything is so drab?"

"We also have pretty lights, better decorations," Deserey listed off. "Oh, and a way better mascot."

Sara and Ray gasped, like she had just personally offended them. "You take that back!" Sara shouted. "Terry the Turkey is a lovable character for children of all ages!"

"Yes, but Tina the Turkey is just better," Dez shrugged. "And far cuter."

"Just face it," Leonard said. "Star City's parade sucks. Central City's is superior in every possible way."

"That is not true!" Ray insisted.

"It is. Deal with it!" Mick grunted.

"You guys wouldn't know a good parade if it bit you in the ass," Sara huffed.

"Oh, come on," Jax laughed. "Don't be a swore loser!"

Kendra and Carter walked in with the supplies they were sent out to buy earlier. They put them away, but not before the rest of their team mates bombarded them, demanding to know which city had the better parade - Star or Central.

"Easy," Kendra said. "Central."

The Central City residence cheered, high fiving and laughing like a bunch of idiots.

"I disagree," Carter said. "Star City's is better."

"What?!" Kendra gaped at him, completely shook. "Carter how could you? I thought we were soul mates!" She cried dramatically.

He shrugged, unapologetically. "Sorry, love. I just know good stuff when I see it."

Deserey scoffed. "Clearly, you do not!"

"Oi!" Rip shouted suddenly. Everyone turned to face him. "There's only one way to settle this disagreement," the captain said. "We have to go to both."

The team immediately agreed. So, while the rest of the food finished cooking (Gideon promised she wouldn't let the food burn the ship down or get over cooked) they went out to see not one, but two Thanksgiving Day parades. (By the end, though even the Star City parade team was cheering for Central's parade, because it was, indeed, better.)  They had a blast, laughing and joking with each other as though there wasn't an immortal psychopath trying to take over the world. It was a nice relaxing day for everyone. For once no one had any troubles or worries. Everything was just...okay.

When the parades were over the feasted on their large meal that they had all worked so very hard on. And in the end, like any good Thanksgiving, the Legends were completely stuffed and ready for bed.

Well that was fun. I hope y'all enjoyed that special holiday one shot 😉

I...have so many drafts for one shots I need to do...blegh. I'm sorry, I'm so lazy. But I promise I will eventually do them all! Legends honor.

But for now, I've got to go help my dad finish cooking and then stuff my face for several hours. 😘😘

Oh! And before I forget, here's the cover to Dez's story so you can easily find it, if you want to read it and have no already started doing so.

And...yup. I think that's all I got for now. Toodles!
