You wiped the sweat on your forehead with the back of your wrist, leaving small black traces on your face at the same time. The car had issues during qualifying, again. You and the other mechanics had spent hours trying to fix the problem and, finally, you did. It was night already in Austin, Texas. You were covered with sweat and oil and you couldn't wait for this day to end.
Seeing Dan miss Q3 because of a mechanical issue was happening way too often and, every time, his disappointed face made your heart ache. You wanted to take a shower, have room service and fall asleep into his arms so this day could finally be over.
You were taking a sip of water when you saw him enter the garage. He had media duties before that, the FIA press conference and then some interview for all kinds of media. His hard face softened when he spotted you next to his car. It was a rough day but somehow you always found a way to make his big smile appear, even when he was sad as fuck. This season was hell for him and you knew he just wanted it to be over.
He took you in his arms, his hand behind your back and his head in your neck as he breathed in your scent. Catcalls were heard inside the garage. It has been a few months since you officialised your relationship with the driver, but the mechanics and engineers were still teasing the hell out of you. You usually made sure not to display too much affection in the garage or in the paddock in general, but you knew he needed you right now.
You whispered some comforting words into his ear before leaving his arms. He brushed the dust off your forehead, chuckling.
"Are you free to go?"
"I think so. Your car is as ready as it could be." You sighed as you looked at the Red Bull car once again.
The lead mechanic gave you the go sign and you both left the circuit after saying your goodbyes to the rest of the crew.
As it has been for the last few races, you shared a hotel room with Dan. You took a shower and ate a small meal, not really hungry. You tried not to talk about today's qualifying session, Dan would talk about it if he wanted to.
Finally, you found yourself lying in the comfortable king size bed. Dan was stroking the skin of your arm as your head was resting on his naked chest. You knew it wouldn't take long before you fell asleep.
"I bought a house in Monaco." Dan broke the silence.
"A what? What did you do with your apartment?" You asked surprised. Never did he tell you he was thinking about buying a house.
"I sold it. I wanted a place that felt more permanent, you know?"
You nodded, you understood that with his lifestyle he needed to have a place to himself. His apartment was nice but it didn't feel like a home.
"I want you to come live with me."
You raised your head from his chest. Now this was definitely surprising! You spent a lot of time at his place when you both were in the UK, and you've already been to his apartment in Monaco a couple of times. But living together? That was quite a step!
"Say something." He added.
"You do know my mechanic salary doesn't come any close to yours, right? I can't buy a house in Monaco."
"I'm not asking you too. I bought it. You can repay me in nature, don't worry." He smirked at you, making you gently push his shoulder, before he found his serious again. "I want you to move in with me in the UK, cause that's where we spend most of our time. You almost live there already anyway. And I want Monaco to be the place where we'll raise our children. What do you think?"
"I..." You couldn't believe the man in front of you was real. He was too sweet to be true. "Do you really mean it?"
"Of course I mean it! Do you, Y/N, want to move in with me, both in Milton Keynes and in Monaco?" You chuckled at the solemnness in his voice. He was really serious about this. You didn't have to think about it twice. You knew you wanted to be with him, in the UK, in Monaco or somewhere else, it didn't matter.
"I do." You barely had time to nod as his lips were already on yours, both his hands holding your head. "Now can I see pictures of the house? Just to make sure I didn't agree to live in a slum."
