01; 3 boys and a lollipop

"Alright, maybe he isn't so worth it!" I listen to my best friend complaining, stuffing her mouth full of mash potatoes as she dwells about her love life.

"I told you already, Leah," I shrugged, scooping a slight spoonful of the potatoes and feeding myself.

She grunts loudly, furrowing her eyebrows and sending me a small pout, "I know but he's just so sweet and nice and funny!"

"Leah," I sighed.

I looked back at her in pity. The dark navy pinned straight hair of hers perfectly laid passed her shoulders. Big brown eyes, and a pink pouty lips that would easily have any guy fall for her.

Why was she so caught up on this guy?

"You've barely 'talk-talked' with him since the party a few nights ago," I shook my head, "Don't fall for him too deeply, please. And knowing him for four years, he most certainly does this to other girls too."

She sighs loudly, sitting back up straight as she randomly dusts off the table in front of her, "You're right."

I watched her in amusement as she rubs her palm across the lunch table, followed by her long groaning and sighing.

"I just wish guys weren't so manipulating!" she cries, laying her head on the back of her palms.

"We all do," I chuckled.

Leah pulls out her phone, tapping it repeatedly before it transitions to a screen full of multiple blue bubbles.

My eyes widened, "Leah!" I hollered, "Why'd you text him so much?"

I couldn't help but laugh. I took her phone and scrolled down the iMessage, "Most of these are just you spamming laughing emojis!"

Looking at an embarrassed Leah, I rested my palm on my forehead, "No, Leah!"

Then I started laughing even more.

"I wanted him to know how funny he is," she whined.

"Not like that," I shook my head, locking her phone, "He probably thinks you're psycho with your laughing self."

"Does he?" she stresses, placing the palm of her hands on both sides of her face.

I thought about it again, "Probably!"

"Juniper, do you think you can do something about it?" she pleaded me, in a soft way.

My body softened up to my best friend, "How?"

"Jacob's in your math class, please talk to him about me," she begs.

My eyes slightly widened, "And so are Caleb and Ryan, you know how annoying the three gets when they're together."

"Please!" she screeches.

"No, Leah!" I groaned, "I honestly can't believe you even started talking to Jacob, those boys are a no-no." I wiggled my finger in front of her face.

"I'll do your homework for you," she winks.

Contemplating for a little bit, I easily gave in, "Fine," I mumbled.

"All of my homework for the week," I pointed at her.

"Deal!"

"And if this doesn't work out, you still have to do it because of my effort," I kept my finger pointed at her face.

"Deal," she giggles, wrapping her hand around my finger.

I laughed along with her as I felt the company of my best friend.

Then the bell rung.

- - -

I patted my green plaid skirt before setting my notebook on the table.

Taking a seat and grabbing a hairband from my backpack, I pulled my hair back and into a messy low bun, with only a few strand of waves down the sides of my face. I carelessly toss my pencils onto the table, and dug into my backpack again to grab out a water bottle.

Twisting off the cap of my water bottle, I fed myself as I kept my eyes towards the front of the classroom, watching my teacher shuffle back and forth with piles of paper.

It was quiet in the classroom, until a loud bang has been heard. I jerked from the loud noise behind me, slightly spilling the water on my legs.

"Sorry," a voice behind me jokingly say.

I snarled, dusting off the water as I attempted to dry the wet spot on my skirt with the sleeves of my blazer.

"Couldn't be any louder, Caleb?" I asked, slightly annoyed.

I regret asking.

"Could be for you, my darling," he answered smartly, followed by an ugly cat growl.

I couldn't help but cringe. I imitated a vomit as I turned back towards the front of the classroom.

Strolling in through the front door came Jacob and Ryan, dressed messily in their school uniforms. Jacob had his blazer slightly hanging off his shoulder, as if he just put back on his jacket.

Ryan had his tie hanging loose around his neck, as well as his blazer slightly dragged off of his shoulders.

"Oh," Caleb cooed, "How was it?"

Caleb strolled towards the boys and elbowed Jacob slightly in the arm, "Was he good?" He winked at Ryan.

"Shut up Caleb," Jacob answered with slight annoyance.

"Babe, you can tell him," Ryan squealed, taking off his tie as he threw his arm around Jacob.

Almost immediately, Jacob squirmed away from Ryan's grip, and fixed the jacket on his body.

"We were playing basketball," Jacob growled.

The other two boys laughed slightly, as they strolled towards their seat.

To my luck, without sarcasm, Jacob sat right next to me.

Talking to him about Leah should be easy.

I watched Ryan sit himself down in front of me, wrapping the tie around his neck as he concentrates on tying it.

I can imagine myself just grabbing a bundle of his platinum blonde hair and yanking him away from the seat in front of me. Watching his head bobbing back and forth is so distracting especially when I'm trying to concentrate towards the front of the board.

But I held myself back.

I looked over at Jacob.

He was fiddling with his phone, but quickly slid the phone back into the jacket pocket in front of his chest.

"How was the party?" I asked him.

He blinked and then looked up at me, "You're asking me?" He pointed to himself.

"Yes," I trailed off, tapping my fingers against the table, "Who else?" I slightly laughed.

"No, I was just," Jacob trails off, "It was fun."

I watched him awkwardly shift in his seat, playing with the black notebook in front of him.

"Okay," I squinted my eyes.

"He's in love," I heard Ryan coo in front of us.

I turned my attention towards the voice, watching the blondey turn around slowly in his seat, casting me a sly look.

"He's in love," he said again, resting his arm on my table, playing with my pencils.

"What are you doing?" I sighed, grabbing my pencil from his fingers.

"Shut up Ryan," Jacob hissed.

Throughout the whole conversation, Caleb had both of his earphones in, blasting music as loud as our voices were.

Ryan then shifted his hand to my notebook, folding the edges of my paper.

"Ryan, stop it," I nagged, dusting his hand off of my notebook.

"Anyways, did you see Leah at the party?" I turned my attention back to Jacob.

He nodded without hesitation, "Why?"

"I heard it was fun," I shrugged.

"Why weren't you there?" he asked.

"I was busy," I blinked.

Jacob nodded, quickly killing the conversation.

"Leah," I heard Ryan singing in front of us, in a soft teasing voice.

By then the teacher had already informed us to work on our first equation.

"Turn to your partners," he bluntly announced, as our old teacher tosses his papers on the table before sitting behind his macbook.

I watched as everyone adjusted their seat to their desired partners. Ryan immediately beams and turn towards Jacob, who was groaning in annoyance.

"Hey baby," I heard Ryan's voice.

"Dude," Jacob snarls, "Shut up."

"June," I heard Caleb say quickly afterwards.

- - -

I closed my notebook as the bell rung, putting my earphones on and sliding everything back into my backpack.

With the music in full blast, I easily ignored my surroundings. Zipping up my bag and tossing it over my shoulder, I got up and made my way towards the end of the row.

As I looked forward, my legs immediately stopped working. The platinum blonde boy stood directly in front of me, laughing with a huge smile plastering on his face. His blue eyes gazed passed my shoulders, attention focused on his friend behind me. His adams apple vibrated along with his chest softly pumping from laughter. Both of his hands were resting in his pocket, his shoulder were slightly raised as his uniform was finally put together. In the corner of his mouth was a little white stick from the lollipop he was still sucking on.

Then his attention drifted to me.

Our faces weren't too far or too close. But close enough for me to almost feel intimidated by his presence.

"Move Ryan," I sighed, pulling off one of the earbuds.

Ryan lifted his eyebrows and took a step back.

"Funny," I sarcastically answered, looking around us as we both were still surrounded by desks from both sides.

"What?" he questioned with a smirk.

"Okay," I smiled like an angel.

Without hesitation, I lifted my hands and grabbed the straps of his backpack.

"What are-" he paused before feeling his body stumble backwards. A yelp escapes his lips as his friend watched us from behind, laughing quietly. I bit my lower lip to hide my devious smile as I speed walked him backwards and out of the row.

The moment we reached the end, I let go of his straps and dusted my hands.

"What?" I imitated him, sending a smirk.

He blinks as me as he was taken back from my comeback. He pressed his lips together in a thin line with the lollipop still bulging out of his cheeks.

"Gotcha," I grinned, grabbing the end of his lollipop.

I softly yanked it out of his mouth and popped it into mine, tasting the orange flavored candy and casually put my other earbud back into my ear.

"Bye," I waved at the boys, before walking out of the classroom.

Even though I've known the boys since freshman year, never have I ever came so close to any one of them. I had no idea where my confidence came from.
