“Really?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Really,” he nodded. He parked the car and came over to my side to open the door. “Don’t I get a kiss for saving you?” He said it cheekily.
I slid out of the car and looked at him honestly. “I could slap you for saving me,” I suggested. He rolled his eyes and laughed and slipped his hand into mine. Instead of a drag, this time we were walking towards the resort.
Wes picked the keys out his pocket and opened the closest room.
It was one of the resorts, which served more as a home for the poor than an actual resort. It was for the nature walkers, to the bird freaks and it was for the people that wanted to hide out.
Alison loved it.
Cece was the one sitting on the bed. She got up on my arrival.
“Burning down buildings. Probably not the best impression,” she said to me.
“Now, who would I possibly make a first impression on?” I rolled my eyes.
Cece smirked just as a girl walked out of the bathroom and into the room.
Mona.
Mona Vanderwall.
“Ugh,” I groaned at Cece, “really?”
“We need more people,” Cece explained.
“Exactly,” I said. “We need more people. Wesley is already the family pet, we don’t need another animal.”
Burn.
Wesley pretended to wince with a smirk on his face and when Cece gave him a questioning look he just shrugged his shoulders and chucked himself onto the couch.
Mona didn’t even look like it fazed her. Of course, she was the one who usually put up with it.
I continued.
“She does not impress me, Cece. Especially at her attempt at being A by sending me the message, “ What would you do if you didn’t have me? Kisses-A” Fake, and incredibly stupid.”
Mona looked at me surprised.
“You knew it was me?” she said.
“It’s obvious,” I said. “There was a risk that Cece wouldn’t do it. But you have something to prove to me. I’m assuming Cece told you that I thought you weren’t a great asset to the team You always try to prove yourself so ruthlessly. Everything you did has your trademark on it.You went against what Cece would do in order to gain my acceptance “
She looked me up and down and said:
“So you’re the girl that made Alison who she is.”
Finally, some credit.
Just before I spoke, the phone buzzed, distracting me. I reached into my pocket, indicated with my hands to everyone that I would be outside, and walked out.
I knew who it was even before I answered.
“E- Fitz. Shouldn’t you be teaching or something?” I said.
His voice sounded distant but close all at once. “ Actually, school just finished about an hour ago, and you missed a good fifty minutes of a lesson.”
I laughed, “You know, just because you know me personally does not mean you can just call me up whenever you like about school work because frankly I might as well rem-“
I wonder how he got my number?
“It’s not about that,” he said, cutting me off.
Probable from the school file.
“What, then?” For some odd reason, it was like I knew what he was about to say.
“Well, you know my mother? Well, she was wondering, you know what, why don’t we just meet at 7:30 tonight at the Grill?”
I definitely knew what he was about to say.
I hesitated. I didn’t want to waste my time with all that commotion, but I did want him off my back for a while. There were only a couple of people in Rosewood that made me uncomfortable. The hastings, The Fitz’s and of course, the Holbrooks.
“Fine. I’ll bring a friend. Bye.” I hung up before he had a chance to say anything.
Bringing a friend would mean that I could control the conversation. If I wanted to hear it out, I could just send the guest away to the bathroom. If I didn’t want to talk about it, of course, I would make sure they stayed.
And I knew just who to bring to keep it interesting.
“I really didn’t think you would come! It was such late notice,” I said in a perky voice as Aria hurried towards me in the front of the grill.
She smiled at me, her chest heaving from the effort it took to get ready in about ten minutes. “Well, you sounded like you really needed someone. So..What’s this about?”
You. Ezra. My little game.
“I just.. It’s kind of stupid,” I laughed. “You are really one of my only friends and I just really get nervous sometimes and sometimes I need someone and I had your number and well just, I’m just meeting up with a couple of family friends.”
Aria looked shocked and furrowed her eyebrows. “Oh, that’s fine with me but wouldn’t that be kind of weird?”
“No,” It’ll be just fine. “Just thanks for coming. Let’s go in. He’s been waiting for the past ten minutes and I didn’t want to go inside without you.” I pointed to the table that Ezra was sitting on just as we walked in. She halted immediately. Just like I expected.
I started laughing to myself, slightly amused. It’s okay Big A. I know your secrets.
“Is there a problem?” I said innocently. She looked at me oddly and then shook her head too quickly. Then we were off to sit next to Ezra and his surprised looking face as he stared off at the girl who he was clearly keeping secrets from.
But I knew all of his.
