It was a cold, snowy Friday here in the city. I stood behind the counter of the local coffee shop watching the snow fall, wishing I could be at home watching reruns of A Different World and sipping on some hot chocolate that I brought home from work. I started working here since junior year of high school and now three years later I can't seem to leave the cute little shop. The pay wasn't the best, but the amount of cookie and food the owner gives me always makes up for it.
As I were daydreaming you didn't even notice the bell attached to the door ring signifying that someone has entered or left the building.
"Hi."
I looked away from the window and saw a tall man with the food of his jacket covering his face damn near.
"Hello and welcome to the Timberwolf Café, what can I get you?" I smiled
"Timberwolf café?" He chuckled
"Yeah, the owner is a huge Timberwolves fan so he named after the team." I explained
"Cool maybe I could meet the owner and we can talk Timberwolves. I would like to say I am a big fan myself. I feel like I'm a part of the team." He said
"Uh the owner isn't in today." I said confused as to why he is telling me this
"Well maybe another day." He said
"Right, so what can I get you?" I asked
"Let me get a large hot chocolate and your chicken salad." He said
"Okay, that will be $9.56." I smiled
The man reached into his wallet and handed me $10. I entered the amount given to me in the register and gave him his change.
"You can go ahead and have a seat, it will be out shortly." I smiled
He nodded his head and walked a away and took a seat by the window. I don't know what it is, but something about that man seems so familiar to me. Like the bottome half of his face seems so familiar.
"Y/n order up." Our chef said handing me the food through the passageway in the way
I grabbed it thanking him and grabbed a glass, filling it with hot chocolate and placing some marshmallows inside. I placed both items on a tray and walked over to him.
"Here you go sir." I smiled placing it on his table
"Thank... Y/n." He smiled reading my name tag
"No problem." I smiled and went to turn around
"So Y/n are you a Timberwolves fan?"
I stopped and turned back to the man sitting down.
"Yeah I am actually." I stated
"Who is your favorite player?"
"Why do you ask?" I chuckled
"I am just trying to make conversation with a pretty girl and I'm curious." He shrugged
I blushed and tried to hide my face behind my hair.
"Thank you and it was Zach LaVine until he was traded so now I have to say Towns is my favorite." I said
"Towns? I know him." The man said
"Aw that's really cool. He seems like he really nice." I said
"I like to think he is." The guy said
"Cool." I said rocking on my heels
It was a silence between us, the only sound that could be heard was the crackling of the fire in the middle of the café.
"Do you want to meet him?" He asked breaking the silence
"Yeah, that would be cool." I said
Then he brought his head to his hood and slowly removed it from his head.
My jaw dropped, it was him. It was Karl-Anthony Towns. K.A.T. just called me pretty.
"No fucking way!" I whispered/yelled as I sat in the seat in front of him "you're Karl-Anthony Towns."
"Yes I am and your Y/n the very pretty café waitress." He smiled
"Forget who I am. You Karl-Anthony Towns." I said in shock "Now it makes sense when you said it feels like you are part of the team. You are in the team."
He chuckled and nodded his head.
"I'm sorry for lowkey freaking out, I just love watching you play." I said slightly embarrassed
"Nah it's cool, it was cute." He smiled putting a fork full of salad in his mouth
"Well I will let you eat in peace." I said standing up
"No," he said grabbing my hand "stay."
"I have work to get back to." I said shaking my head
He looks back towards the register.
"It looks like they got it under control back there." He chuckled noticing that someone took over my station
"I don't know man. I already took my break." I sighed
"Y/n sit." He said pulling my arm down
"Oop okay." I said fumbling back into the seat
He pushed his salad toward me and offered me a fork.
"Thanks." I blushed and took it from his hand
He smiled and took another bite of his salad.
"So Y/n tell me about yourself." He smiled
"There isn't much to tell. I was born and raised here. Played a little bit of basketball in high school. Started working here my junior year of high school, three years later still here." I said taking a bit of the salad
"So it is always this cold?" He asked
"In the winter? Yeah, that's why it's always so crowded here towards the end of the year." I said
"I never even knew this place existed until today." He said "it's cute, just like it's workers."
"Stop." I blushed looking down at my lap
"I am just stating facts." He smiled
He grabbed my hand and I look up at him in the eyes.
"Let me take you out." He smiled
"Excuse me?" I asked in shock
"I wanna take you out on a date." He said
"Why?" I asked confused as to why me, I mean we just met and he wants to take me out on a date
"Something about you I really like. I want to get to know you more when you are off the clock of course." He smiled
"I-I don't know what say. I-I" i stuttered
"Say yes Karl you can take me out on a date." He chuckled
"Yes Karl you can take me out on a date." I smiled standing up from my seat
"Great," He smiled doing the same "so when are you free?"
"How about tomorrow, I get off early." I said
"Perfect." He said
"Okay then, I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled
"Yeah tomorrow." He smiled
"Okay then, bye I guess." I said rocking on my heels nervously
Next thing you know his arms were wrapped around my body, hugging me tight.
"Bye Y/n." He said
He let me go and I walked back to my post behind the counter.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He smiled walking toward the exit
I nodded my head up and down.
He turned and walked out of the café. I rested my head on my hand and watched him disappear into the snow.
"Why you in lala land?" The chef asked
"No reason." I sighed happily
"Okay?" He said not believing me
"Aye? Have I told you I really love love working here in the café." I smiled excitedly looking forward to tomorrow
