The next morning the coffee tasted like gasoline.
Both Emily and Chis struggling to eat infront of each other.
Breakfast felt like giving up most mornings.
Both burning holes into each other like a cigarette against a photograph.
Crystal sat between them. She was the one that cooled the fire in their glances.
The silence was broken.
"I can't sit here any long I'm going to school"
"Do you want me to drop you off?!" Chris and Emily both yelled at the same time.
"I'll do it" said Emily.
"No I'll do it, she prefers my driving-
"Atleast I get her there on time-
"I'm walking!"
The door slammed and they were left in silence.
"I'm going on a walk, I need some fresh air" said Emily clearing her half of the table leaving Chris playing with his food.
-Emily's POV-
The morning dew and fog treacled over the mossy hills not far from our house.
Rays of sunshine from the small gaps in the clouds reflected against my face.
I sighed and sat down on the damp grass feeling the coolness hit my skin.
I felt a firm hand grab my shoulder,
I cream he'd and shot up.
I turned to see Chris.
"Jerk! you scared me" I pushed him back.
"What are you doing here!"
"It's a nice day and I can't have a walk with my girlfriend?"
I rolled my eyes and he put his arm round me.
"What's been going on" he asked.
"No idea"
"Why are you being so distant?" He huffed.
"Why are you picking up on every little thing I do like I'm doing it against you"
"Well thats what I've been assuming cause you won't talk to me!"
"Ah yes, typical Chris, making it all about you as usual"
"Fuck you." He growled
"Why did you follow me?" I frowned
"I told you-
"The truth,"
"I miss you alright? I know things are rough and I know we will get through them but I just needed to spend time with you, that's all I ask"
I looked down.
"Fine"
-Christa's POV-
"Christa? Can I speak with you in my office?" Said my English teacher as he brung me to his desk a after class.
Not that I had any friends who would expect me to sit with them at lunch.
I nodded and sat at the desk.
"I've noticed changes in you these past weeks."
"I have been studying I swea-
"Not in your grades, in you,"
I frowned,
"Is everything okay at home?" He said pouring himself a coffee.
"I-it's fine, i just don't know what this is about"
"I've seen your arms" he blurted out,
I froze.
"Sorry, I just- I couldn't keep quiet, are they recent"
"I've got it covered,"
"Do your parents know?"
"Yes, yes they do"
"Okay, so I won't say anything to the headmaster, but if it gets severe I will have to do something"
"Okay" I said getting my bag.
"Oh and crystal?"
"Yeah?"
"My lunch breaks are too long so if you wanna talk about anything I'll be here"
"Thanks sir"
"Seeya around kid"
-Chris's POV-
We lay on the sofa watching TV for the rest of the day.
It was cold out and the town was covered in a thick layer of fog.
Emily lay back and snuggled into my side to keep warm.
"I missed this" I kissed the top of her head, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"I know" she said falling asleep.
I sighed.
I don't know where I stand anymore.
