"Burry?" I asked, furrowing deeply. Sam nodded his head slowly before shaking it frantically. "No." He said... More

A little information wouldn't hurt.
"I just felt like doing it."
"Don't call me that."
"It was really funny for you, huh?"
"Who is the girl standing beside Joe?"
"Great way to greet your guest."
"Momma's back, honey dukes-"
"You were just calling...me?"
"Let It out."
"I missed you, Barr."

"Well, if you say so."

Recap

Now, I was just hoping that this job remains with me until my stay here because I was not so sure about it due to my recent phscopathetic stunt.

But, say it like this or that, it was all in all.... amazing!

Right?

"Sir, you called me?" I said, knocking on my boss' office door.

Looking up from a book which was in his hands,  he zeroed his black eyes at me before nodding his head.

Taking it as a sign, I walked inside the spacious room before standing in front of his desk.

My co-workers told me that our boss's name was kind of weird. Scanning his desk, I looked at his name plate and sure enough there it was written in all its glory.... Joe West.

Seriously?

I mean, why West though?

Why not North, South or East? Huh?

It was a hilarious one, wasn't it?

Okay! I know, that was a bad one but Hey! I am just trying to lighten the gloomy air around in his gloomy office.

I roamed my eyes around, savouring the room's condition.

It was a good one except the grey walls surrounding it and the dark rosewood furniture diapered in almost every nook and corner of it.

I stopped taking in the scary office before looking at my boss when he cleared his throat, suddenly.

"Miss. Thames." He acknowledged me, nodding his head in a business like manner, yet again.

I nodded my head back, this time taking in his appearance.

He was wearing a warm overcoat paired with....who knew what?!

His lower part was hidden behind the desk and I was standing opposite to him, across the desk so it was nearly impossible for me to look over there and even if I did, trust me, it would be nothing but awkward for both of us.

He kind of looked around my father's age; the almost visible wrinkles adding to the obvious fact.

He had tanned, blackish skin with dark black hair which were still in their natural colour and, much to my surprise, not a single speck of white on them making him look all the way more younger than he actually was.

"So...," He started making me focus on what he was going to say next instead of how old he might be, "how was your first day of work, Miss. Thames?" He asked,  smiling at me.

Until now, I was standing there in front of him like a robot but that gesture of him, just that smile, was enough for me to switch to my other side like some kind of button was clicked inside me.

I returned his smile with my broader one before sitting lazily on the seat at my side of the desk.

"It was fantastic." I gushed, "No! Actually, It was amazing. I really enjoyed, here" I told him, reminiscing back to yesterday's memorable events.

Grinning, I picked up the glass sitting on his desk before gulping it's contents down in a go.

When I lowered it down, I saw him raising his eye brows at me making me realize my mistake.

Uh-oh!

"Uh... I'm sorr-" I stood up from the seat when suddenly he started laughing. His laugh was genuine and fatherly just like how I imagined my late father's laugh to be.

Pushing the thoughts of my father at the back of my head for now,  I furrowed my eye brows at my boss's weird nature.

"You are just like my daughter, Miss. Thames." He supplied, trying his best to stop the laughter which were right on the verge of coming out from his mouth,  "Sit."

I did as I was told before looking over at him with a sheepish smile on my lips, "Sir, I really didn't meant t-"

He cut me off as he said, "Please, call me Joe."

I hesitated for once but, nonetheless, went on with it. "Okay. So....Joe, I was saying that I really didn't meant to do it bu-"

I was again cut off when he opened his mouth before chuckling. "Amelia?" He asked, humor evident in his voice.

Flushing a little at my ice age name, I nodded my head. "But I would rather prefer Am, if you don't mind?" I asked, pushing away the embarrassment that I was feeling due to my-oh-so-awesome-like-a flower-being-blossom name.

"Why? I don't think your name is bad, at all." He uttered, somehow looking kind of amazed.

I cleared my throat, raking my head for some fake excuse.

"Actually," I furrowed my brows a little, "whenever someone calls me by my full name it makes me feel... a hundred times older than I really am."

Just as I finished the sentence, I chastised myself internally for giving such a lame excuse but what would I had done when that was what came rushing in my head like a tornado at the time of crisis.

Joe cracked a smile, shaking his head before muttering something close to 'Children these days' under his breath.

I rolled my eyes at that.

He picked up a bluish file from the desk unconsciously before letting it slide down from within his long fingers. "Am, there is a strict rule here that I guess, probably, you don't know yet."

It was more of a question than a statement or it sounded like that to me.

I guess, it was the latter one seeing as he continued further, " Everyone who work here whether for a few days or till the lifetime, are all one big family." He said, his eyes distant as if he was remembering an old memory.

His memory player had been stopped playing videos abruptly as he suddenly snapped out of his daze before looking at me with a small smile that lit up his whole face. "So, that's why there isn't a problem in acting so casual around me or with anyone else who work here, for that matter."

I gave him a smile before sloping my shoulders in relaxation, instantly following the 'strict rule' that he had told me just now. "Well, if you say so."

He shook his head, a grin spreading across his face. He was going to open his mouth to say something when suddenly, the phone on his desk started blaring with full force.

He looked at it, furrowing his eye brows slightly before grabbing it in his hands. He then shot me an apologetic look while standing up from his chair, "I have to take this."

I nodded in understanding, suddenly feeling bored out of my wits.

"Iris? What's going on, honey?" He said into the reciever as he walked outside the office leaving me all alone.

I sighed before standing up, the chair beneath me making a screeching sound as it slided across the floor a little. I took a one last glance around the room, looking for anything that could held my interest, at all.

As I was roaming my gaze across the walls, my vision unintentionally halted at a huge photo frame hanging just above the couch in the left corner of the room. I walked towards it lazily before focusing on the group picture.
