Zuko and Iroh were walking slightly ahead, down the street. Iroh paused, though, and I watched as he bought a large vase with several orange flowers in it. They were pretty enough, I suppose. Zuko just stared at them coldly, and Iroh grinned at us both.
"I just want our new place to look nice, in case someone brings home a lady friend," he nudged Zuko, then threw me a wink. I snorted at him and rolled my eyes. "Or if someone brings home a nice young man."
I gave Iroh a polite smile, but otherwise, didn't really respond.
"This city is a prison," Zuko growled, though he looked a little pink after Iroh's comment to me. "I don't want to make a life here."
"Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not," Iroh answered sagely. "Now come on, I found us some new jobs, and we start this afternoon."
As Iroh hurried ahead, Zuko stopped and looked back at me. I was staring up at a monorail car that passed above us.
"Am-Jasmine?" he caught himself partway through calling me Amaya.
"Hmm?"
"Are you alright? You're... not talking as much," he looked uncertain.
I put my usual grin back on my face. "Just thinking, don't worry!"
He looked unconvinced, but when I shoved him and pretended to be distracted by a butterfly that passed by, he seemed to be convinced that I was really ok. I really am. I'm just... tired. Yeah, I'm just tired.
Maybe doing some work will be good for me.
