Emma's POV
I was getting ready for my date with Matt when my phone buzzed.
Sam: Hayes found out you're going out with Matt tonight.
Me: Crap!
Sam: Yeah. Cameron and I are over at their house. Cameron accidentally mentioned it.
Me: Urrgh.
Sam: He says he's sorry.
Me: It's fine, he was bound to find out anyway.
Sam: Okay. Love you! Have fun on your date! 💕
Me: Love you too.
--- End of Convo ---
I sighed as I finished curling my hair. I really didn't want Hayes to find out. At least not yet.
The truth is, is that I still loved him. I probably always will. But I think I need to move on. See what's out there. But it's so hard when you have something so great right in front of you.
I want him back. Believe me, I do. I just can't bear to go back. What if I messed it up again?
I shook my head. No. It's time to focus on the present. Matt.
Grace's POV
"Shawn! Wait up!" I yelled, fumbling through the trees. Shawn had asked me if I wanted to go out somewhere and I said yes.
But I had no idea he'd lead me through a forest.
"We're almost there! C'mon!" He said, pushing aside some branches. I sighed as I followed him, still half annoyed on why he wouldn't tell me where we were going.
"Shawn! Why are you-" I broke off when I emerged through the trees to see a beautiful waterfall.
It almost looked fake. The water was spilling over the face of the rocky mountain and hitting a near by pond a couple of feet down. It wasn't huge, but it sure was pretty.
"Wow." I breathed, taking the sight in. The sun was setting, the colours casting a beautiful reflection off the waterfall.
"This is one of my favourite spots." Shawn said, grabbing my hand and walking me closer to the bank of the pond.
"I usually come here to think. Sometimes life gets rough and you just kind of need a quiet place to think." Shawn said, sitting down. I did the same.
"It's beautiful." I said. He smiled. "It reminds me of you." "What?"
"It's just so beautiful. It's so effortlessly beautiful. It's free flowing, it's spontaneous, it natural. It feels right here. And it feels right whenever I'm with you." Shawn said, looking at me.
I blushed. "Why are you saying all of this?" I asked. He grabbed my hand. "Grace. I love you. I love you so much. I spent days slaving over the perfect way to tell you, to ask you to be my girlfriend. And well, here we are." He said, gesturing to the sight before us.
"I know it's not great. I know it's not this grand event with balloons or something, but-" I cut him off by forcing my lips onto his. He kissed back immediately, smiling.
"It's perfect." I said.
"Really?" He asked. "I didn't know if you'd like it. It's so," I put my hand over his mouth to stop him.
"Cameron asked Sam to go out with him in a bedroom." I said. I felt him sigh against my hand. I quickly removed it so he could talk.
"I know, but Sam wrote a note. A whole letter. And she tells the story like its something amazing." Shawn said. "It is something amazing." I said. He looked at me confused.
I sighed. "Shawn, it's not how or where you ask the question. I mean, I would have said yes no matter where we were. Sam said yes because she loves Cameron. I said yes because I love you. As long as we're together, it doesn't matter where we are. In a cafeteria, a classroom, heck, even in a shopping mall. I love those moments. Because I was with you."
He smiled and kissed me again. "So is that a yes?" He asked as he pulled away, his right eyebrow quirking up. I chuckled a bit. "Yes." I said.
"YEAH!" He said, jumping up. I laughed as he did a weird dance. "Finally!" He said. He had kicked off his shoes during the dance and stepped on a tall rock near the bank of the pond.
"Shawn? What are you doing?" I asked, watching him take his shirt off. "WOOOOHOOOO!" He yelled, jumping into the water.
I laughed as he emerged, a goofy smile on his face. He began to swim towards me, wiping his hair off his forehead. "God I love you." He said, pushing off the ground near my feet, kissing me.
I smiled, finally being able to call this loveable guy my boyfriend.
Emma's POV
Matt came by shortly after Sam texted me. I decided to wear black jeans with slits in the knees, paired with a white crop top with a flannel tied around my waist.
Matt smiled at me when I opened the door. He looked adorable as always, wearing a white T- shirt and khakis.
"Ready to go?" He asked, holding out his hand. I nodded and took his hand, walking to his car. Matt, being the gentleman he his, opened the passenger side door for me.
"Thank you." I blushed, sliding in the car. He smiled, and closed the door gently. His car was super nice and sleek, the sent of pine coming off the air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror.
---- Time Skip ----
"That movie sucked." I said, exiting the theatre. "Yeah... Sorry about that." He said laughing. "Nah, it's fine. You cracking jokes made it better." I said, smiling.
His cheeks tinted a light pink. "Thanks. Though you almost got us kicked out when you laughed so hard Coke came out your nose." I blushed. "It's not fair! When you started fake narrating the intense movie scenes with dumb stupid lines!" I said, cracking up again.
"Wanna go to Starbucks?" Matt asked, getting in the car. I did the same, pulling on my seat belt. "After that? I couldn't. I'm still mad at you because you wouldn't let me pay for my own popcorn." I said.
"Pshh... We're going." He said, starting the car. I sighed and smiled at him when I saw that he had that stupid goofy smile again.
Once we got to Starbucks we ordered our drinks and sat down at a table. We talked for awhile, laughing and cracking up at jokes each other said.
Suddenly, I heard the bell over the door ring. I looked up and my face went white when I recognized who it was.
Nash and Hayes walked in, looking around. I looked at Matt once Hayes and I made the slightest bit of eye contact.
"Everything okay?" Matt asked, concern written on his face. "Yeah." I said, smiling and returning to the conversation. I heard Hayes grumble something to Nash, and Nash quickly retorting not to do it.
Confused, I looked up. I saw Hayes walk over to us, Nash's face going white as he waited for his drink. "Hayes?" Matt asked, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
Nash made an attempt to reach us as soon as he paid for his and Hayes drinks, but it was to late. Hayes opened his drink, pouring it over Matt's head. I gasped as Hayes hurried out the door, Nash yelling curse words and running after his brother.
"Oh my god." I said, grabbing napkins and dabbing his shirt. "I'm so sorry. That's my fault. Hayes is mad at me and..." I rambled but Matt chuckled. "Hun, it's fine."
I smiled. Matt sighed. "Well, this shirts ruined." I laughed. "We should get going." Matt said. I nodded, getting up.
----
"I had a fun time tonight." I said. Matt smiled. "I did too. So, I was wondering if you wanted to, uh, go out with me again sometime?" He asked. I smiled. "Definitely."
"Great. I'll see you later I guess." "Okay." I smiled, pecking his lips. "Goodnight." I said, before going inside and closing the door. I sighed.
I am going to kill Hayes.
