21 | An Evening with Marvel

there's a song to begin playing at a certain point, i'll let you know when!

+ + +

"Can I have everyone's attention, please?" Joe Russo tapped into the mic a few times before speaking again. "Hello, everyone. Thank you for being here tonight, our final cast dinner slash wrap-up party for Captain America: Civil War!"

The cast and crew and their family and friends cheered applauded for the two directors as Joe handed the mic to Anthony.

"It's been a pleasure working on this amazing movie with this incredible cast and crew, everyone was so hardworking and it's phenomenal seeing the final product playing across the world and being proud of the end result. We really couldn't have done it without any of you, and we thank you for that. Tonight is for everyone who has invested months and months of effort and hard work and dedication to this production. Have fun tonight and enjoy!" The crowd erupted in praise yet again as the brothers walked off the stage, leaving everyone to their own business.

The party/dinner was held in a large ballroom that took up the top floor of a hotel, along with rooftop access, providing the guests with quite a large expanse of space to move around in and a glorious view of the city below them.

Countless tables(not countless to the many party planners that it took to organize this party) littered the ballroom, surrounding a sizable dance floor that was placed in front of medium-sized stage.

Gourmet catering was served to the guests, as well as a buffet made available after several course meals were served.

Sebastian was seated at a table along with Imogen, Chris, Mackie, Jeremy, Tom, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Scarlett, Robert, Chadwick, Elizabeth, and their plus ones, if they had brought any.

"Sorry to intrude on your whole cast dinner thing." Imogen apologized to the group.

"What are you talking about, Mo? You're not intruding on anything. You're like, everyone's plus one, even if they brought another plus one." Mackie reassured her.

"If there was any way to put into words or a face I could make that would be equivalent to like, 9 question marks, I would be doing or saying that." Robert said, earning a few chuckles from around the table.

"Robert, what in the hell are you talking about?" Chris asked, clearly confused by Robert's remark.

"Okay, you know how in texts and stuff you type out  a bunch of question marks?" Robert continued. "I would do that--or type that--in real life if I could." He clarified.

"Robert, honey, you really should stop texting everyone in your contacts list." Robert's wife, Susan, tried convincing, placing a hand on his chest. Robert huffed in response.

"Everyone looks so lovely tonight. I'm surprised, really. I didn't know the men knew how to clean themselves up, let alone dress up for a fancy event." Scarlett admitted.

"Well," Paul Rudd started, "I have to admit, it's pretty hard without my stylist around to make me look as good as I usually do," He paused to dramatically pretend to flip hair over his shoulder, "but thanks to my lovely wife here, I managed to look half okay." He joked as Julie lightly hit him on the chest.

Imogen swooned at the sight of Sebastian's fellow cast members and their significant others, feeling slightly out of place. Not that she wasn't having fun with Sebastian, who invited her along for the ride, saying that it was going to be a good time. She was having a great time. In fact, the entire group chat insisted she attend the party, immediately assigning her as Sebastian's plus one. She had declined at first, thinking that Sebastian had someone else in mind to be his plus one. He had shot that down quickly, noting that Imogen was his first choice of being his plus one. It was then that she accepted, feeling quite flattered that you were at the top of the list of girl's to ask.

"Imogen?" Sebastian asked while placing his hand on her shoulder, pulling her out of her thoughts. "Would you like to grab some dessert?"

"Sure." Imogen smiled at him as both of them rose from their seats, placing their napkins on top of the table.

"Seb!" Mackie called out, "Can you grab me a mini cheesecake for me, please? Actually, make that a few cheesecakes."

"Also, grab one of those tiny fruit tarts, would you?" Robert raised his hand to catch their attention.

"Gross, Rob, fruit tarts? That's nasty." Jeremy shamed him, making a face.

Soon enough, everyone was calling out their dessert orders to the pair, until Sebastian pretended to slam his fist down on the table.

"Get your own damn dessert!" He roared and broke out into a grin.

"I will fetch the requested mini cheesecakes and fruit tart. Anything else will have to be retrieved by yourselves." Sebastian made sure everyone knew that he was not getting anyone's dessert for them, except the two requested by Anthony and Robert.

A few minutes later, Sebastian returned with Imogen in tow, the both of them struggling to carry multiple plates that were stacked high with various treats from the dessert buffet.

"Holy shit, I've never seen a buffet so big. And they're all just desserts." Sebastian emphasized.

"It's like I walked into heaven." Imogen added before munching on a pink macaroon she had picked up.

"I've never seen anything so beautiful." Elizabeth said, staring down the plates of desserts.

"I have." Imogen refuted, "It's you, Liz." She jested and was pulled into a hug by LIz.

"You're sweeter than these desserts, Mo, I swear." Liz said as she wrapped her arms around Imogen's neck.

"Aw, why can't you guys be as nice as Liz and Mo are to each other?" Tom questioned, grumpily stabbing some food on his plate before shoving it past his pouting lips.

"Because I want to beat all of them up." Chadwick confessed with a straight face, before Jeremy burst out laughing at his serious look.

After the group had scarfed down the desserts that Imogen and Sebastian brought back, most of them were engulfed into various topics and swapping war stories from being on set with each other. Imogen sat back and listened intently, enjoying listening to all the fun they had on set. Sebastian was halfway into the conversation, popping in here and there to add something to what someone had said while the other half of him was spent stealing glances at Imogen while she wasn't looking. She had dressed up in a black and white V-neck dress, her hair had been teased to look a little messy, and had on a more natural makeup look, as opposed to a glam look that she might have worn to a premiere or other red carpet event.

Sebastian thought she looked stunning regardless of what she was wearing. He had seen her in dresses and he had seen her in sweatpants. Nothing could change his mind about that; she would always look like a goddess.

"Sebastian...Sebastian? Can you hear me?" Imogen waved her hand in front of his face, trying to break his small trance.

"Oh yeah, sorry. What did you say?" Sebastian asked her to repeat.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go dance?" Imogen gestured to the dance floor where a considerable amount of people where attempting to throw down their best dance moves.

"Of course." He gave her a wide smile and got up, offering Imogen his arm. She got up as well, brushing off the skirt of her dress before slipping her arm through his. He led the duo to the dance floor, squeezing through a few people to get themselves surrounded by others.

A few minutes into Sebastian's half-awkward-half-cute dance moves and Imogen's shaking and spinning around, a familiar tune drifted into the ears of most of the people in the ballroom.

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons' Can't Take My Eyes Off You began to play and immediately Sebastian's and Imogen's eyes lit up.

"God, I love this song!" Imogen exclaimed, swaying from side to side to the beginning words of the verse.

"Me too!" Sebastian beamed as the pair danced around the little space they had.

Soon the small breakdown that came before the chorus played and everyone was singing the "BA DA DA BA DA DA BA DA DA DA DA DA" that got everyone so hyped for the chorus.

"I love you baby
And if it's quite all right
I need you baby
To warm the lonely nights
I love you baby
Trust in me when I say"

Sebastian grabbed Imogen's hands as the chorus swung around and he swung her body around the dance floor, too invested in dancing, no one caring too much about crashing into each other because everyone was too busy dancing. Most everyone there was engrossed in belting out the catchy lyrics to the song.

"Oh pretty baby
Don't bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I've found you, stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you"

(start song now)

Too soon, the song ended and faded into a slower song. The pair was still all smiles and laughter, panting slightly.

"May I have this dance, princess?" Sebastian pulled away to bow down in front of Imogen, offering her his hand.

"Of course you can, prince." Imogen gingerly took his hand and pulled him back up, one hand going to her waist, the other grasping her other hand out while they slow danced.

"I'm having so much fun, Mo." Sebastian declared.

"Me too, Seb."

"You look absolutely astonishing tonight, by the way, Immy." He looked down at her to catch her reaction. Imogen instantly blushed and buried her head in his shoulder upon hearing those words leave his mouth and feeling his gaze on her.

"You look quite dashing, I must say." Imogen remarked and Sebastian could feel a smile grow large on his face.

The two danced in silence for a while, letting the music drift, occasionally brushing a person next to them.

"Thank you." Imogen mumbled into Sebastian's collarbone, although loud enough so that he could hear her without having to repeat herself.

"For what, Mo?"

"Bringing me here, thinking of me," She acknowledged.

"Thank you for saying yes, Immy. I don't think I would have had this much fun if I hadn't brought you along."

"Oh, so I'm only here so you can have fun?" Imogen pulled her head back and kinked an eyebrow at him.

"Wait, no-that's not what I-" Sebastian stammered before Imogen interrupted.

"I'm teasing, Seb." Imogen revealed, cracking a smile at him before placing her head back down where it was before.

"But really, Mo. I might have skipped out had you not said yes." Sebastian confessed. "I don't really like showing up to these things alone, and I'm not really close enough with anyone who is also close with the cast."

"Again, thank you for asking. I'm having a grand time, Sebastian." Imogen pulled her hands away from his and wrapped them around his torso, his arms wrapping around her and hands interlocking together behind her back. His heart fluttered slightly when she called him by his full name, being used to getting called "Seb" or some other ridiculous pet name that she or one of his friends made up.

"This is so fun. You have the best cast and friends. They're all so sweet." Imogen marveled. One of her hands ran up and down his back soothingly as they swayed back and forth gently to the song.

The music soon turned back into party music, and Imogen suggested they check out the rooftop, but not before grabbing a drink, something light and not too intoxicating.

When they had reached the rooftop, people were scattered in their own groups, minding their own business. The roof was spacious, and the duo had no problem finding a space by the edge, protected from the fall by a tall and rather thick glass.

Imogen was in awe of the sight of the city lights below her. She had not seen anything like this view before, and that left her all the more speechless, mouth hung slightly open.

Sebastian had been there twice before: once for Captain America: The First Avenger, the second time for The Winter Soldier. Though The First Avenger had been directed by Joe Johnston, Marvel had a hookup with the hotel, the hotel offering to accommodate their large parties and events. He had been there twice before, and still could not get over the view that the hotel provided. But this time, there was a new view to be admired: Imogen.

The dim lights along with the city lights beneath them created a soft light that bounced off of anyone's face that came near the glass paneling that lined the edge of the building. It highlighted Imogen's face perfectly.

"This view is incredible, Seb." She marveled before looking up at him and catching his gaze.

She looked back down at the view, the look of awe never leaving her face.

A light breeze brushed through the air, causing Mo to shiver and continually shift her drink between her two hands.

"Cold?" Seb asked and before she could answer, he took her drink from her hand and placed both glasses down on a nearby table and slipping off his jacket and onto her shoulder. Imogen immediately relaxed into the soft fabric of the jacket and threading her arms through the long sleeves.

Sebastian picked their drinks back up and handed it back to her, but not before she pulled up the sleeves enough so that her hands peaked out of the armholes and was able to grasp the glass without any of the condensation getting on the jacket.

She laid her head by his collarbone as his arm snaked around her waist, gently rubbing up and down to create some friction that would hopefully warm her up a bit.

"I'm so glad I met you, Sebastian." His heart did the flutter thing again as she said his full name for the second time that night.

"Me too, Imogen. Me too."

What he didn't know was that her heart did the flutter thing too.

The two of them were so content, right there and then, right next to each other, high above the busy streets of New York.
