Chapter 43: Fast Paced

Troye

By the next morning, Tyler still hadn't responded to my text. I endlessly scrolled through tumblr, constantly checking my phone for any messages despite having the sound on. When you panic, only static feels your ears.

It was verging on 9:30 am, and my phone hadn't sounded at all. I stared at Tyler's contact number. Just waiting for it to be highlighted, a message lighting at the top of the screen.

I jumped as something landed on my bed. I looked up, seeing a small suitcase and my father standing at my doorway. The smirk on his face made my stomach drop.

"Change of plans. Airplane's booked today" He explained.

Tyler

He told me not to come to his house. Despite telling me that, something was wrong. His comment was worded wrong. It was too direct and blunt. If it was something that wasn't desperate, he would have taken two or three texts to convey his message, often with emojis. This time, panic and fear was written between the lines.

I changed gears. Three more streets before I got to his house. I glanced at the clock, flashing 10:02. I had only seen his message this morning, when i had woken up at 9.

I wondered whether I should tell someone what was happening, or where I was going. But wouldn't they just bring more trouble?

The silence was painful. I turned on the radio but the music made this feeling of anxiety worse. I'd rather sit in silence then listen to my car radio.

I somehow made it to his street, the last few minutes a blank in my memory. I parked on Troye's driveway. No other car was present.

My car door slammed shut. My footsteps pounded on the concrete path leading up to the front door.

It was overcast, a wind blew. The neighbourhood a ghost town, silence clinging to each house.

I knocked on the door, seeming to echo. No one answered. I knocked again but only the wind seemed to answer my calls.

When I tried, the door swung open. It wasn't locked. My fear and stress skyrocketed.

Beginning with the living room, I rampaged through the house. Everything seemed to be left untouched, only a few holes where it looked like that something was missing.

The last room I entered was Troye's. I felt a chill down my spine as I studied the minimalistic state it was in. It looked like no one had been living there.

I walked in, searching through his desk. Bar paints, pencils and sheets of paper, nothing else was there.

The cupboard's doors were ajar. Peering in, coat hangers were thrown at the bottom, most clothes askew. I was about to close the doors when I noticed the square boxes at the very back.

I pulled them out to find they weren't boxes, but in fact Troye's paintings. There were about 9 of them.

My breath got caught as I saw the rose painting. It was so life like, something so beautiful frozen forever.

I stood up, holding it carefully, afraid it would break. In the corner of my eye, I spied a book on the floor beside his bed. Gently placing the painting down, I picked the book up. One page had been dog eared. I opened it up.

'... We're leaving on Sunday, but I fear that he will make it earlier."

It clicked, and I slammed the book shut. Grabbing the painting, I raced out of the room and out of the house. Turning the engine on, I pulled out of the house and sped out of the street.

Troye was heading to the airport. I needed to stop him, at least meet him there.

Luckily, I knew shortcuts. 2am drives clear the mind and strengthen orienteering skills.

I was going over the speed limit, but I didn't care. A speeding ticket was non existent in contrast to Troye . I've heard your allowed to go over if it's desperate and an emergency. This situation ticked both boxes.

Traffic lights seemed to understand my purpose, constantly getting green lights.

Thoughts constantly ran through my head. I wondered whether I was too late. If whether there was any point in this. Maybe this was all for naught.

I turned onto the highway, slowing only slightly out of habit.

I glanced at the opposite window. A car. A car hadn't stopped. A car was speeding towards me.

It felt like my heart stopped. I could feel the blood drain out of my face, becoming slightly lightheaded.

Things became blurry and I forgot everything.

Jackie's POV

'We now have news of a car crash on Great Eastern Highway. A car was hit by a speeding car that didn't stop at a give way sign. The two drivers are in critical condition and the passenger is injured. Paramedics are at the scene, transporting them to the hospital. We'll have more information on it soon. On to...'

The news presenter's voice faded out of my hearing. The image of the two cars was drilled into my head. That car that was hit. The one that is the exactly like Tyler's. The one that is missing from the driveway.

I collapsed on the ground. Tears in my eyes. My body was frozen.

I don't want to bury my only child.

A/N
I'm sorry.

That was quite a roller coaster.
I have one more idea, but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not. We'll see. Next chapter might be awhile, since I'll be focusing on my other story. Let this chapter sink in.

In other news I've started listening to Halsey. I get all the hype now.

I've also got 4 weeks of school left sighs.

That's all, hope you (somewhat) enjoyed this chapter.
