Genevieve POV
Oh my God it was good to get some fresh air. Plus Katherine was about to explode if I was to keep her cooped up in that small bedroom again for any longer.
'Damn right, I was going to!' Katherine agreed as I walked hand in hand with Zac.
'Okay, calm down Katherine..' I replied softly.
'I am calm.' I could hint at a smile in her words even though I couldn't see her.
"We're coming close to my family's block. This is going to be ours one day." Zac said proudly as we walked up a dusty driveway with large trees either side.
"Is it just your dad at home?" I had to ask, Zac never really talked about his family much.
"Yes. My mother died after my sister was born, about two months after. Then about eight years later my sister died." He replied sadly as the house came into view.
It was a small bluestone cottage that looked beautiful with the sun glistening off the still slightly frosty grass where the sun hasn't been able to reach though the thick trees.
To my right was an old black Holden 70 EH parked in front of a small wooden shed, then next to that was a wooden swing tied in the tree.
"So this is where you grew up?" I asked.
"Yeah, Raph and I would always muck around in the cubby house up in the tree with the swing. We built it together and personally I have no idea how on earth it's still in one piece..." He laughed as he shook his head.
I continued to try and catch a glimpse at the tree house but before I could see it Zac pulled my hand and led me to the front door.
"Knock, knock!" He yelled at the door.
The shuffle of feet and groaning floor boards greeted his voice as we stood waiting for the door to open.
"I wonder who that could be." Said a voice behind the door which sounded so much like Zac's just wiser and older.
The door opened to reveal an average sized midforty-year-old man in jeans and a Star Wars t-shirt. He was going slightly bald at the back of his head and his grey hairs were starting to show through the dark brown of his hair, but other than that he looked a lot better than I had first expected.
"Hey Dad," Zac smiled and gave him a hug in the doorway.
"Hey Pippy, you took your time in coming to see me. I came back when I got the message you were missing, then when you miraculously appear again you don't even come to see your old man. I seriously thought I had taught u better my son..." His dad shook his head in shame.
"Yeah I'm really sorry about that, I was a little bit preoccupied. I have much news to tell you and show u." Zac said excitedly.
"Haha okay, but first lets get you two seated inside where your friend can sit down before she falls over." He politely stood back and let us in.
I walked straight over to the couch and sat as vertigo hit me just like Zac's dad said it was going to.
"Now who's your friend Zac?" He asked.
"Dad this is Genevieve, Evie this is my dad, Peter." Zac introduced.
"Hello Genevieve, it's nice to meet you." He said with a smile as if he could sense the fact that Zac and I were mates.
"Now don't tell me anymore Pippy, let me guess please." He begged and Zac just nodded for him to continue. "I'm guessing this gorgeous red haired girl is your mate?"
"How'd you guess?" Zac asked amazed that his dad could have figured it out.
"I can see and feel the love between you two. Plus it's the only logical reason as to why you haven't been home." He replied pushing the longer parts of his hair out of his eyes without thinking.
"Zac could you go get some wood for the fire and also get a drink for Genevieve please she's looking like she could use a drink." Peter smiled.
"Sure thing." He got up then bent over to whisper into my ear. "I'll be right back, Hun." And with that he kissed my lips briefly before leaving.
Once Zac was gone I looked up and was examining Peter's face. Zac must have gotten his father's blue eyes cause they looked exactly the same. As I continued to look at his eyes, Peter locked eyes with me and what followed happened before I could stop it.
Soon the memories came flooding out.
##
It was of a little girl. She looked about eight and was curled up in her bed that was covered in light pink lily bed covers. Her dark chocolate brown hair was is a loose plait down her back as she slept on her stomach.
The scene could have been described as peaceful or cute but on the girls pillow was splatters of blood.
Peter stepped closer to his only daughter, seeing her in so much pain and suffering was killing him everyday. Peter couldn't believe Annabelle got the same disease as his wife, the doctor had promised them that the condition wouldn't have been passed on.
He watched as Annabelle started coughing badly again causing more blood to splatter on her hands and pillow as her skin got paler.
"Dad-" he heard little Zac speak from the doorway.
"Zac, I told you to stay away from this room, I don't want you to see this." He replied turning to look at Zac.
"I-I'm sorry... I didn't mean to but I want to see Annabelle. I miss her Daddy." The 12 year-old frowned, "can I please brush her hair again?"
With a sigh he agreed and he watched as he only other bloodline raced to do his little sister's hair.
"Peter," the nurse's voice pulled his attention away from his two kids.
He met eyes with the middle aged woman who said one phrase that would haunt his mind forever.
"It'll be soon."
Peter had been expecting to get told that his daughter was going to be leaving this world soon, he could tell she was never going to survive it like Mary had done. But when he was actually told, he almost lost it. Any of the will, any of the life he still thought he had left in him was just about gone at that moment.
He felt the tears begin to fall as he turned back and stood outside the room quietly.
It was then he could hear Zac singing.
"-you're all I want. When you're lying here in my arms. I'm finding it hard to believe we're in Heaven. Love is all the I need and I found it there in your heart, is it too hard to see? We're in Heaven." He sung it quietly to Annabelle as he brushed her hair. Each line was sung softly like a lullaby as if he was singing her off to a better place away from her pain.
Peter had never heard his son sing, nor singing for his sister. It only made him begin to cry more at the fact she would be dead by the end of the week.
The soft patter of Zac's feet on the wooden floor boards made Peter try to pull it together. He snuffled in briefly as he was interrupted by a gently tugging on his arm.
"Dad?" Zac asked.
"Yes?" He weakly replied.
"Don't go into Annabelle's room, she's sleeping properly now." He smiled as their eyes met.
"Okay I won't." Peter smiled as best as he could.
"Okay." Zac smiled as he walked off down to his room to finish reading the book Raphael had given him.
Once Zac was gone Peter walked back into the girl's room.
He entered and his eyes rested on her figure. She looked so peaceful then, like an angel.
He walked to brush a strand of her fringe out of her face and then lost it straight after. He hadn't felt the ticklish feeling he always got when the air from her nose hit his finger.
She wasn't breathing.
She was gone. She had died in Zac's arms as he had sung to her and done her hair.
Peter didn't hold back the emotions he had tried to contain. All he had left now was his son Zac and this property. Every other family member had left or died.
If it wasn't for Zac, Peter would have taken his life.

I flew out of the memory as fast as I could as I couldn't hold back the tears of Annabelle's story.
Zac panicked at the sight of me in tears as he came back into the living room with two glasses of water.
"Genevieve, Genevieve, what's wrong?" He said urgently.
I wiped my eyes on my sleeve before glancing up at his father.
"Did you just, just look into dads memories?" He asked and I did t have to reply for him to just know.
"Annabelle?" He asked.
I just nodded.
"She was way too young to have died..." He frowned.
