WA 46 – Turn Down The Tables
Nakaharap lang ako sa mga pagkain na kinuha niya kanina pa. "Tititigan mo lang ba iyan o kakainin?" tiim bagang niyang tanong. Inirapan ko siya at binaling ulit ang tingin sa pagkain. Toasted bread, sunny side-up eggs, rice and roasted chicken. They all look so yummy and very appetizing, but none of them ever piqued me. Wala akong gana kumain. "You eat or I'll force you to eat?" balik niya ng tanong.
Kumunot ang noo ko, "You know what? Wala na akong gana kumain." I sternly said. Tinulak ko ang platong may kanin at yumuko na lang.
He's just standing right in front of me. I can feel his intense glare at me. "Eat." Sabi niya ng mariin. I didn't even budge, "Eat Nathalia!" He scowled.
Inangat ko ang tingin at humalukipkip sa harapan niya. His glare turned into a crimson. It became more intense. "Bakit ba hindi ka marunong makinig ng isang pasabi lang? You wanted it repeated so many times!" He retorted.
I rolled my eyes heavenwards. He's back to stereotyping. "What are you talking about, Uryll?" hindi ako nagpatinag.
If he's mad, then I am also mad. Let's quit the pretentious act. This is all fucking screwed up!
"You want me to elaborate it all? Simple as you're so dense. Fucking hardheaded woman who can't even take good care of herself! Selfless and weak."
Holy hell! Sobra pa sa pang-iinsulto ang mga sinabi niya. "Selfless? Hindi ba mas mabuti 'yon? Mas mabuting unahin ang iba kesa sa sarili?" I'd rather choose to help than sulk!
Nag kibit balikat siya, "It's not everything about them, Nathalia. You always turn down the tables and make everything your problem. That's what you call selfless and annoying." He really has big issues. "You see my point?" he teased.
I frequently rolled my eyes again. "Ewan ko sayo." Useless kung makikipag-away pa ako sa kanya. This man won't ever back down, so why argue?
He leaned on and whispered right in front of my face. "Eat up, missy." Shitty hollow space! His breath can make anyone live without taking a drug.
Nakakainis.
I'm feeling dizzy because of my headache. I'm really having flue. I tried so hard not to cough, but it didn't worked out. Nang nag angat ako ng tingin, ang sama talaga ng tingin sa akin ni Uryll. "That's the other point." He sternly said.
Walang pasabing tumayo siya. Alright, he's leaving—What? "What are you doing?" Tanong ko nang lumipat siya at tumabi sa akin. Kinuha niya ang mga kubyertos at inilapit na naman ang platong may kanin.
"Pinapili kita kanina, hindi ka sumagot. I guess you chose the latter." He's going to feed me. Holy hell! No way.
"Stop!" I shouted.
He didn't budge. Inilapit niya sa bibig ko ang kutsarang may pagkain. "Stop complaining, Nathalia. I made you choose earlier. Wala kang naging sagot. Now, shut the hell up and just eat. Don't make me say things again. I hate repeating." He retorted.
"You're unbelieva—Urmp." He pushed the spoon inside my mouth.
Wala akong choice. Wala!
After that spooning thing, "Akin na nga!" Inagaw ko sa kanya ang mga kubyertos dahil ayokong siya ang sumubo sa akin. "You don't have to do that!" I retorted back.
Ngumiti lang siya. "Can't help it. You're too stubborn." Pang-ilang ulit na niya akong nasabihan ng ganyan, pero hindi pa rin ako naniniwala. He's primitive and such.
Nakakailang ang pagsubo niya sa akin kanina. Why can't he choose me instead of her? I can always be here for him. He can always count on me. Oo nga't hindi ako ang nakasama niya ng ilang taon—kahit nga taon, hindi pa kami umaabot sa ganon. Mahal niya ba talaga si Daphne?
I tightly closed my mind so that he can't read any single line from it...I shurgged the thought off. Ayoko munang isipin ang ibang bagay.
Nangangalahati na ako sa pagkain. "After you eat, sasamahan kita sa infirmary. I can feel that you're burning. Kailangan mong magpahinga muna doon."
My brow creased before swallowing the food I'm taking in. "I can manage, Uryll. Sa dorm na lang ako." I said and spoon another mouthful food.
"No." tiim bagang niyang sagot.
I arched my brow. "I am certain. Kaya ko na ang sarili ko. Thank you for feeding me."
"Always remember to eat before anything else." He said and eyed me.
Tumango-tango ako. I'm feeding up the dragon inside my stomach. It's not growling anymore. "Okay got that." I said.
Tumitig siya sa akin, "I'm serious. Eat, Nathalia. You're too skinny."
"Oo na nga. Ang kulit mo."
"Whatever," He rolled his eyes heavenwards. "You all done?"
"Yup. I'm already full." Sabi ko at tumayo na. Ganoon din ang ginawa niya at sinamahan ako sa paglalakad.
Hinay-hinay lang dahil nahihilo pa rin ako. "We're going to the infirmary. I want you checked right now."
Umiling ako. "Okay lang talaga ako. Sa dorm na lang ako magpapahinga." I reasoned out. Ayoko lang talagang pumunta doon dahil naaalala ko lang ang mga pangyayaring dating masakit.
"You're burning."
I tried to paint a smile, "It's just my Imaclum. Don't worry."
"No. It's not just flu anymore. You have high fever." He sternly said. "Wag nang matigas ang ulo, Nathalia. Let's go to the infirmary." Hinihila na naman niya ako kaya nagpatianod ako. Wala na naman akong nagawa. "Please stop going against me. Will you?"
"I'm not trying to go against you. You're just an asshole." I can taste the bitterness in my tongue. I'm going to piss the shit out of you, Hutchinson!
"Really?" Mariin niyang tanong. I roll my eyes heavenwards. Feel his wrath, Delacroix. "Really huh. Can't argue with that." And he laughed his heart off.
Say what? "Why are you laughing?" I asked questionably. He eyed me and gave me a wink. "Don't be silly. Go on and laugh with me." Hindi rin naman ako nakapagpigil, tumawa na rin ako. It feels so good laughing with him. It's like we're just on our own and making the best out of it.
Uryll is nothing but a silent happiness. He'll make you feel happy even if he's not that vocal. He's into actions and not just words. Maybe there's a difference.
We're on our way to the infirmary when Rio came running towards our direction. Nahinto kami dahil baka may kailangan siya. "Hey dude. Buti naabutan kita." Sabi niya. "Hi Nathalia." Bati niya sa akin at ngumiti.
Bumaling ulit siya ng tingin kay Uryll. "Where the hell have you been, man? I've been looking for you anywhere."
"At bakit?" Tanong niya pabalik kay Rio. "I've been with Nathalia since this morning." Sumulyap siya sa akin at pinasadahan ulit ng tingin si Rio. "Your sister saw us."
"Oh. Is that so? Si Stan kasi pinapabalik ka na sa Cisos. I heard Daphne arrived earlier than expected." That statement made me bleed. She's back. Daphne's back and we're over again. Bumaba ang tingin ni Rio sa akin. "Are you okay? Namumutla ka." Sambit niya na nakapagpababa rin ng tingin ni Uryll sa akin.
"I'll take you there."
Kaagad akong umiling. Kahit masakit, "No. You go and I'll walk myself to the infirmary." I can freaking manage! I'm not invalid for Pete's sake!
Naging itim ang aura niya. "Rio, take her to the infirmary." Mariin niyang sabi.
"I can't. Sorry. Late na nga ako sa training namin. Sorry talaga Nathalia." before anything else, he disappeared immediately. Hindi na rin ako nagulat. Wala akong kasama, so basically mag-isa nga akong pupunta doon.
"Ako na lang maghahatid sayo."
"No."
"What the hell?"
"Okay na nga ako, di ba? You don't have to be with me all along. Daphne arrived, and she needs you. Go to her, Uryll." Because our time was over. It's hers now.
There's always a hope for me waiting. Kahit na malabo, sige pa rin ako. I'll promise to divert my attention and be contented to what we are having right now. It's just a short time but it's indeed worth it. May sakit pa ako kaya dumadagdag sa sakit na nararamdaman ng puso ko ngayon. It's quite okay. Wala naman akong choice kung hindi ang tanggapin iyon.
"You don't look okay to me."
"I am. Shut it!" I shouted back at him. Nakakainis! Hindi niya ba maramdaman o talagang bumabalik na naman siya sa pagiging grade-A asshole niya? Like what he said, he can't argue with it anymore because it's true. He confirmed it himself. "Go to her." I sternly said.
Nag iwas ako ng tingin at iniwan siyang nakatayo doon. Bahala na. "Okay. 'Yon ang gusto mo eh." Sabi niya bago siya naglakad paalis sa kinatatayuan namin kanina. He's heading back to Cisos for sure. Hindi ko naman gusto 'yon eh. Hindi dahil iyon talaga ang dapat niyang gawin.
If Daph's here, then his full attention should be at her. Not me.
Kahit mahirap at nahihilo ako, pinilit ko ang sarili kong pumunta sa infirmary. I'm really feeling dizzy and pissed. Sumasabay sa sakit ng ulo ko ang nararamdaman ng lintek kong puso. Why can't I just forget him and move on with my life? Why life is like a bitch? Walang preno kung makabigay ng pasakit. It's like pouring an icy pail of water right above my head!
I'm at the gate when someone wearing a coat appeared right in front of me. "I'm lending you my arms." He said while smiling.
Of course, alam niya ang lahat! Alam niya kung ano ang nararamdaman ko ngayon. Alam niya rin kung anong kailangan ko.
"Hi," Bati ko. Bago ang lahat, yumakap na ako sa kanya ng mahigpit. "This is all I'm craving for." Sabi ko.
