(A flashback occurs of Kai and Cole racing through the streets. Before a Dragonide picks up Kai's vehicle.)
Cole: I didn't know your vehicle could fly!
Kai: It can't! It can't!
(The two screamed as they crashed. Now, in the present, Kai wakes up to find himself upside down.)
Kai: What? Where am I? (He touches his head.) Ugh, headache, headache! (He sighs.) Phew. Now what was I- Cole? (He looks under him to see Cole stuck in his seat conscience.) Cole! Cole, can you hear me? (He frees himself.) Ouch! Ugh, where's Cole when he's awake when you need him? (He attempts to take off the cockpit.) Come on!
Pythor: (From afar, to the Vengestone Guards) You six go that way! The rest of you, that way! Search the streets!
Kai: (Freezes.) I know that voice...
Pythor: Find the Ninja! The Crystal King commands it!
Kai: Come on. Come on! Wake up, Cole, buddy. Not a good time for a beauty nap! (He lifts the cockpit.) Yes!
Cole: (Opens his eyes.) What happened...? Did we win...?
Kai: Not exactly. (He picks Cole up and carries him.) Ugh, even when you go on another one of your cake diets you still way a ton! I've got to get us out of here...
(Kai runs, carrying a limp Cole with him. A few seconds later, Pythor approaches the wreckage of both vehicles.)
Pythor: Jackpot! Finally! (He notices that the Ninja are missing.) Where are they? Ah. They're close. I can taste them! (In a singsong voice) Oh, Ninja! Where are you?
Kai: (Behind a mailbox. Whispers to himself.) Taste us, huh? That sounds familiar...and now I'm talking to myself. Thanks, Cole.
Cole: We're over here!
Kai: What the- (He covers Cole's mouth.) Are you nuts?!
Pythor: Come out, come out, wherever you are!
Kai: Cole. Cole, snap out of it! (Shakes Cole.) I could really use your help here! Like superstrength help!
Pythor: Found you. (He blocks Kai's attack with the Nunchucks of Destruction.) Oopsie. Didn't work! If only your friend were awake. Perhaps, together, the two of you might have had a fighting chance.
Skylor: (On a building.) Let's find out!
Kai: Skylor? How did you— (Skylor jumps down.) Weren't you on the Bounty with the others-
Skylor: (Smiles.) Hiya, hot shot. (She replicates both Kai's and Cole's powers.)
Pythor: Skylor? But, you're the one with the ability to—
Skylor: Yep. (She combines Fire and Earth to attack Pythor.)
Pythor: Impressive! But even your powers will be negated by my Vengestone soldiers! Warriors, advance!
Kai: (Skylor seals the path with Earth.) Not bad.
Skylor: It won't last for long. Come on!
Pythor: They're getting away! Break these down! Smash them down! (To the Ninja) You can run, but you can't hide! We will find you! The Crystal King sees all! He will bring devastation and ruin down upon all of— Are you still there? I've— Hello? I can't see you! Look, am I just talking to myself or what? (He sighs melodramatically.) Well, that's just rude!
(A little later, Skylor leads Kai as they both carry Cole before stopping behind a building.)
Skylor: We should be safe here, for now. (Looking out the corner.)
Kai: Where are the others?
Skylor: Most of us were in the Bounty. (She shakes her head.) It was destroyed. It went down somewhere in the city.
Cole: (He wakes up.) What?
Skylor: Welcome back. Yeah, the Bounty broke in half taking Nya, Lloyd, Crystal, and Garmadon with it. I'm not sure where Master Wu is, or the others.
Kai: How'd you get down here?
Skylor: (Shrugs.) Don't know, one second I was falling and the next I found myself in the Serpentine sewers getting chased by a bunch of infected snakes.
Kai: Serpentine? Weird.
Skylor: Yeah, after that crash I came after you guys. (She waves the locating device.) Snatched it before we fell. I was in contact with P.I.X.A.L. who had the other one, she went after Zane.
Cole: What about Jay?
Kai: And my sister?
Skylor: Jay's fine, he was the only who didn't crash their vehicle. He's looking for Nya. But the GPS transponder on the Bounty was destroyed, so we have no way of— Look out!
(They take cover as Harumi flies overhead on a Dragonide.)
Kai: Harumi...
Skylor: They've been searching the city for you.
Kai: If they haven't found us, maybe they haven't found the others either.
Skylor: Maybe. But I don't like our chances out in the open. We need to find shelter, fast.
Kai: Hey, I know where we are. Follow me!
(Later, Kai opens the doors to an arcade as Skylor and Cole walk in confused.)
Skylor: An arcade?
Kai: I figure if you're gonna be trapped, might as well be trapped somewhere awesome.
Cole: (He and Skylor look at him unamused.) I suppose you can't contact Pixal and Jay?
Skylor: (Shakes her head.) The communication through the locater stopped working when the Bounty's transponder was destroyed.
Jake: The Ninja? Oh, wow!
Cole: Oh, jeez, kid. You scared us!
Kai: Hey, I know you. You're, uh, Jake! Right?
Jake: Yeah!
Kai: Well, what are you doing here, Jake?
Jake: I was on my way home when the attack started. So I ran in here! 'Cause I figured, if you're gonna be trapped somewhere, might as well be trapped somewhere awesome.
Kai: (Looks at Skylor and Cole, smirking.) Heh, good thinking.
Skylor: No, not good thinking. We're not safe here. Especially the kid, we have to get him somewhere actually safe.
Cole: What about the Sam X Cave?
Skylor: Too far. I was lucky to comb the city's streets alone, but with all of us? We'd never make it.
Kai: What about Borg Tower?
Skylor: That's on the other side of town, and we have no way of knowing if it's been overrun.
Cole: For it being the pivotal place of large battles, yeah I wouldn't bet on it.
Wu: (On Skylor's radio) If you can hear me, if there is anyone out there listening—
Cole: That's Master Wu!
Kai: He's alive!
Skylor: Shh. Listen!
Wu: (On the radio) Our home— under attack. Enemies— our streets— They hope to destroy all that is good— drive us into darkness— I am here to tell you: They will fail! We are not fearful. We are stronger than they know, and we will retake our city! The news never sleeps! Ninja never quit!
Skylor: "The news never sleeps?" That's the paperkid motto.
Kai: It's a clue. He's telling us where he is!
Cole: The newspaper warehouse!
(The four make their way through the city before stopping at an intersection where a bunch of crystalized citizens are seen in a group.)
Kai: Crystal creeps ahead. Follow my lead. When I say run, run. (He throws a can, distracting the crystalized citizens.) Now. Run!
(Kai, Skylor, Cole, and Jake run across the street. They run over a manhole which we zoom in on in the sewers. Where Crystal, Garmadon, and Lloyd arrive at the Serpentine's library.)
Garmadon: What's this?
Lloyd: A library.
Garmadon: Why would anyone build a library in the sewer?
Lloyd: (Annoyed.) Maybe because they just wanted to-
Crystal: The Serpentine! (She points at a board.) We've reached the home of the Serpentine!
Garmadon: Bleh. (He and the two walk around the shelves.) Amazing anyone can concentrate with this stench.
Lloyd: Hello? Anyone home? (Lights up the room with his Energy.) Skales?
Crystal: Selma? Skales. Jr? (She sees a desk piled with books and gasps.) Acidicus! (She moves away the books only to find no one sitting there.)
Lloyd: Huh, weird. (Walks up beside Crystal.) Books were taken out, but never read.
Crystal: They must've fled when the Overlord's Vengestone Warriors got down here.
Lloyd: That would explain the crystalized Hypnobrai.
Crystal: (She summons her Light and sees something.) What's that?
Lloyd: (Picks up a note.) "Sorry. Closed due to Overlord attack. Will reopen...sssssoon?" (Hands the note to Crystal.)
Garmadon: Hmm. I wouldn't bet on it.
Crystal: Acidicus's handwriting, we're too late.
Garmadon: Just like this city.
Lloyd: Would you stop? (Grunts.) We needed their help! (Goes down the stairs with Crystal.) Now what?
Crystal: Find the others-?
Garmadon: The Serpentine wouldn't have made any difference, Lloyd. (Lloyd rolls his eyes.) The only thing that can destroy the Overlord is the power of the Oni. (He stands in front of the Ninja.) The Oni Form.
Lloyd: (Walks by Garmadon.) There has to be another way.
Crystal: Maybe Master Wu was able to figure out how to achieve Dragon Form?
Lloyd: Maybe...but first we'll have to get to him and the others to find out-
Garmadon: Don't you get it, Lloyd and Crystal? There isn't another way. (Walks behind Lloyd and Crystal.) And my brother's delusional Dragon Form isn't of significant importance. It does not exist, nor will it help. (Points at Lloyd.) Why do you persist in denying your heritage? Embrace your Oni side! Let your anger loose! Let it make you stronger!
Lloyd: I...I can't!
Garmadon: Why not?
Lloyd: Because...because...
Garmadon: Because what?
Crystal: Guys, maybe we should start making our way up-
Lloyd: Because I don't want to be like you! (He whips around faceing Garmadon.) That's my greatest fear. That I'll end up like you! Because you don't care about anything or anyone!
Garmadon: That is not true!
Lloyd: Tell me one thing you care about. One thing! (Garmadon shows him Christofern as he frowns.) Plants don't count! Plants aren't people!
Crystal: (She turns around.) Lloyd-
Lloyd: They don't have feelings! (He glances at the plant.) It doesn't care that you abandoned it, or that you never sent it a birthday card, or— or even care that they were never cared by their...their- (He turns back around.) What's the point? You'll never understand. Come on Crystal.
(Lloyd stomps away as Garmadon looks at Crystal who sighs before following the former. Meanwhile, aboveground, Kai and the others make their way through the streets.)
Kai: We're almost there! (They suddenly run into crystalized citizens.) You've got to be kidding me!
Cole: Back. (He turns around.) Back the other way!
Skylor: (Sees more citizens surround them.) They're everywhere!
Jake: What do we do?
Kai: Get behind me.
Cole: Don't let them touch you!
(The three heroes surround Jake while Kai ignites his hands, Cole's scar glows, and Skylor summons her powers. Right before the citizens touch them the paperkids appear and defeat the crystallized people.)
Cole: Lemme guess. You must be the paperkids?
Antonia: I prefer paper delivery professional.
(In the warehouse, Wu serves noodles to the citizens.)
Wu: Here. This will warm you up.
Jake's dad: We have to try and find our son.
Wu: There is nothing you can do. If you go outside, you will only be infected like the others. Please, stay here.
Paperkid: When does the news sleep?
Antonia: Never!
Jake: (The doors open as he walks around.) Mom! Dad!
Jake's mom: Oh, Jake!
Wu: Cole! Kai! Skylor!
Cole: Master Wu! (He hugs Wu as the latter smiles.)
Kai: Boy, is it good to see you!
Wu: Now, let's get to work. There is much to be done.
Cole: I was hoping you'd say that.
Kai: Let's do it.
(Cole, Master Wu, and Kai run off while Skylor watches the reunion of Jake and his parents in content. Kai stops and puts his hand on Skylor's shoulder smiling as she smiles back before the two run off to follow Cole and Master Wu.)
