waking from her slumber

Cassie was really starting to hate the hospital. She finally understood why Ray tried to avoid these places like the damn plague, they fucking sucked. According to the calendar on the wall she had been in a coma for about a two and a half weeks. Cassie couldn't help but wonder if the war between the heroes and villains was over and what side had come out on top.

Presumably it was over because otherwise she probably wouldn't be in a hospital bed right now if it wasn't and if it was over, then the heroes must have won because once again she logically would not be in the hospital if they had lost the battle.

She took the time to look around the room some more, taking in everything she could. The room was filled with flowers of all shapes and sizes. Maybe they were put there in the hopes that they would make the pinkette wake up faster. If that were the case, it didn't work but the sentiment was nice at least.

A small pile of notes sat on the standard hospital night stand next to her bed and with much effort she was able to grab a few using the leaves of a nearby rose to carry them over to her lap. After wrestling with the pillow behind her head a bit Cassie was successfully able to prop her body up into a somewhat sitting position, although she hissed at the jolt of pain that shot through her body from her side.

The first note to catch her eye was one written by her teacher, Aizawa's handwriting was memorable to say the very least. After scanning the paper she learned that the war was over and that for the most part things had begun to settle down. Classes had been canceled for the next few weeks to allow for students to rest after all the fighting they had done.

She also learned that the woman who had tried to kill her was apprehended and locked away from the public. And last but not least she was given a list of the lives lost in the struggle. Amongst the names Cassie was able to identify a handful that she knew.

Midnight, whom Cassie wasn't the fondest of when it came to how she interacted with her students but overall she was a great hero and someone Cassie looked up to and took inspiration from.

Native, the hero she had saved from back when her classmates were fighting Stain. She had thought he would make it through the war and maybe change his hero branding to something less controversial but now he would never get the chance to do so.

Crust, while not being a hero Cassie paid much attention to, she knew he was a good man and didn't deserve the fate he was given, he must have been in so much agonizing pain during his final few moments alive.

X-less was again not a hero of much notability to the pinkette but he was good at his job and had proven several times to be a hero of great morality, something that the hero system in general needed far more of.

A few others were on the list that caught Cassie's attention but they were villains so she probably wasn't supposed to be sad for them. But then again here she was scanning over all the villains whom had died for a cause they believed in. Under different circumstances and in a different life, maybe she would have been a villain too if her memories of her mothers murder hadn't been erased.

Shigaraki, he was arguably the most dangerous villain besides All For One, but he was a villain due to circumstance, unlike AFO whom was a villain by choice. Maybe if his past wasn't so bleak and nightmare inducing he could have become a hero. Cassie saw a part of her in that man. She could relate somewhat in small ways to his struggles of grappling with the role placed upon his shoulders.

More than likely the answer was yes, she would have joined the League of Villains, but luckily enough she was given a second chance, something that Shigaraki never got. He had been manipulated from childhood and not even Izuku could save him apparently.

Twice, She remembered him from when she was kidnapped. He seemed to be the nicest of the bunch besides the warp gate dude, he was very polite for a villain. Twice was suffering from a head injury that gave him major ptsd and what appeared to be split personality disorder. With the proper help and medical treatment he could have been rehabilitated but from what she had heard he was loyal to his friends. Honestly a very respectable quality.

And then there was the girl with those pretty blonde buns she had interacted with briefly during her time held hostage and a few other occasions. Togo, a girl around her age who Cassie learned used to attend UA for a period of time. She dropped out because her quirk was seen as villainess and dangerous but Cassie believed any quirk could be villainess if not used correctly. She wished she could have met the girl before she had turned to the league, maybe they could have been good friends.

Her eyes scanned the list one last time and landed on the very last name of the casualty list... her. Her name was scrawled out like Aizawa had given up hope of his student ever waking up. It was written smaller than the rest and appeared to be erased several times but she could still see the jagged and messy lines that spelled out her full name. She wondered if they would have held a funeral for her if she hadn't woken up, or maybe they would have kept her body in some kind of suspended animation in the hopes that she would live. An unsettling thought but she felt her heart warm at the notion that these people cared about her in the first place.

Cassie sighed, folding up the letter from her teacher and putting it to the side. The next one she picked up was from Ray and as expected it wasn't just a simple get well soon card. " If you don't wake up soon I will personally take all your belongings and burn this hospital to the ground for not saving my best friend's life, so get your ass up asap." Cassie read out loud her voice quiet and crackly from not speaking for a two weeks. She chuckled softly at her best friend's note flinching as once more pain radiated through her body.

There were a few notes from each of her classmates the most notable being Momo's, Izuku's, Mina's, surprisingly Bakugo's note which Cassie was shocked he even bothered to visit her at all and last but not least Uraraka.

Momo hadn't written a note technically speaking; instead she seemed to have been keeping track of what medication the pinkette was receiving and trying to figure out when Cassie would wake up based on the medical treatment she was put through. At the bottom of the list was a little drawing of Cassie smiling up at whomever looked at the paper and a tiny neatly written ' Please wake up Cassie.' Scrawled out in Momo's signature cursive handwriting.

Izuku has stapled several pages together one for each day she was asleep. He had chronicled every single noteworthy event of the two weeks, from their time off school to helping clean up the city and relocating civilians. It was nice that he was trying to catch her up to speed.

Mina had written her letter on a piece of light pink stationary that smelled faintly of strawberries which brought comfort to Cassies rattled mind. " The girls and I have been cleaning your dorm room every day so don't worry about dust getting on your hero merch. We also tried to take care of your plants and Hagakura knocked over the bonsai tree tree on your desk but we were able to catch it and replant it for you. Don't worry about anything when you wake up we've got it all covered and I've been planning a girls night once you get back from the hospital, so please don't sleep for too much longer, okay?" Cassie raised an eyebrow praying that her garden was still intact and thriving, she would check on it the second she got to the dorms again.

Bakugo's carried a relatively pissy tone to it but it was the thought that counted really. Cassie's green eyes flickered over the slightly crumpled paper, a smile of amusement crossing her lips. " Hey plant freak, everyone has been acting off ever since we realized you wouldn't be waking up, I swear to god if I have to come into this stupid room another time with that nerd and our other classmates just to stand around and wait, I will blow up that annoying ass heart monitor. Get the fuck up and come back to the dorms." Cassie again read the note out loud, finding it enjoyable to try and imitate the angry blonde's voice as she did.

Uraraka had left her a note covered in adorable doodles of Cassie and flowers. She mentioned something about confessing her feelings to Izuku and how things were seemingly playing out very well for the two classmates but that she wanted to tell Cassie more face to face and asked the pinkette when she would wake up. One line in particular caught the girl's attention though and she scanned over it several times trying to process what she was reading.

" Todoroki hasn't been the same since he found your body next to Bakugo's. He hardly talks to us and spends hours training instead of resting. I think he misses you the most out of all of us so for his sake as well as ours please don't die, we need you to keep brightening up the classroom Cassie." Tears pricked at the girl's eyes as she sniffled quietly to herself, what would she ever do without her classmates and friends.

The boy in question hadn't left her any kind of note, instead there was a box stacked on top of the letters with her name on it written in Todoroki's handwriting. When she opened the box she began to sob. Inside was a golden promise ring, presumably picked out by her dual haired boyfriend himself, nestled safely in white cloth.

She took it out of its box smiling softly while rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand to dry her tears. Upon closer inspection she could see a message engraved on the inside of the golden ring. 'Always and forever yours.' Cassie read quietly to herself staring at the piece of jewelry in wonder. A small note lay in the box and when she read it the pinkette couldn't help but grin.

" Momo helped me pick this out, I had planned on giving you this ring during the last day of the training camp to go with the necklace I gave you a few weeks prior, however you were kidnapped. It does seem like bad timing but when you wake up I hope you find the ring to your liking. This is my promise to you that one day when we are both ready that I will marry you." The note was simple and sweet, but it made Cassie feel warm and fuzzy inside.

With some more struggle she was eventually able to unclasp her necklace that he had given her, which she always wore even on patrols and slide the ring onto it for safekeeping. Re clasping it around her neck, Cassie looked down in pure joy at the glittering, delicate golden band that was now dangling from her necklace against her chest. She couldn't wait to see Todoroki and her friends... She just had to call in the doctor for some more pain medication first.
