"MORNING, LIV," MASON lightly shook liv. she turned around and slowly opened her eyes. "oh, hi," she muttered, laying back on her stomach and stretching. "well, you don't sound very excited..." mason chuckled lightly. "excited for what?" liv asked. "it's your birthday, hello?" mason furrowed his eyebrows.
liv turned back around to face him again. "oh, yeah, i forgot," she nodded, sitting up. "are you kidding me? how did you just forget?" mason scoffed. "my family isn't really big on birthdays, at least when it comes to me. i've had a party maybe, like, twice in my life," she shrugged, swinging her legs over her bed and getting up.
"that's so stupid," mason sighed. "it's whatever. doesn't really matter to me..." she walked into the bathroom as mason followed her. she grabbed her toothbrush, put toothpaste on it and started brushing her teeth. "well, maddy and becca made you breakfast, and i'm pretty sure it's getting cold, so come onnnnn," mason smiled, grabbing liv's wrist and beginning to drag her down the stairs.
liv giggled as mason pulled her down the stairs and into the kitchen. "happy birthday, liv!" maddy smiled, placing a plate of french toast and bacon on the island. "thank you, guys," liv pouted as maddy handed her a glass of orange juice. she gratefully accepted it and sat down.
"you're sixteen now, which means you can get your license and i don't have to keep driving you around anywhere," brady death-stared liv. "nah, i'm good. i like having a personal chauffeur," she shrugged playfully, beginning to eat. suddenly, miguel walked in and everyone turned towards him.
he was rubbing his eyes and he slowly walked up to liv and grabbed a piece of bacon. "happy birthday, shithead," he mumbled, walking back into the hallway. the whole group burst out into laughter. "nicer than what i expected," liv shrugged and started laughing with the rest of her friends.

"CAN I TAKE off the blindfold yet?" liv asked for the hundredth time. "in a minute," mason told her. brady had drove the whole group somewhere and forced liv to put on a blindfold. she had no idea where she was. all she knew was she was getting guided by mason and she felt her surroundings change from the coldish air outside to a warmish house temperature.
she was guided to the right and then the blindfold was ripped off of her. "SURPRISE," all of her friends screamed. she gasped loudly when she realized they had thrown a party for her. "mason told me that you don't really celebrate your birthday so me and dad decided to plan a surprise party for you," nayah smiled brightly, placing a huge cake on the table.
"happy birthday, olivia," scott nodded, pulling her into a gentle hug. "thank you so much, oh my god," she shook her head in disbelief. "blow your candles out, girl, come on!" nayah laughed. liv smiled and walked up to the island, blowing the candles out as everyone clapped.
"i'll start cutting the cake," nayah announced. "let me help," maddy offered as they began to cut it together. as everyone started doing their own thing and mason noticed nobody was really paying attention to liv anymore, he turned towards her. "hey," he smiled. "hi," she responded.
"so, i— i got you something," mason began to reach into his pocket. "mase, you know i hate presents," liv shook her head. "okay, but it's your birthday and i got this a while ago anyways. i was planning to give it to you today, though," he pulled out a little black box and opened it.
liv almost melted at the sight. "it's a promise ring. and it also has my initial on it," he looked up at her and smiled. when she didn't respond, his smile dropped. "d— do you like it?" he asked, unsure if she would like it or not. "i'm at a loss for words, mase. it looks so expensive..." she shook her head.
"well, it was about two—" he began but liv quickly cut him off. "don't finish that sentence. it will make me not want to accept it. here," liv giggled, holding out her hand. mason took the ring out of the box and slid it onto her finger. "it's so beautiful. i love it," she spread out her fingers and gazed at it some more.
"i love you."
liv snapped her neck to look at mason in the eyes. "what?" she furrowed her eyebrows as her smile dropped. "i love you," he repeated. "you... love me?" she asked. "yes," he stated. "and— and you mean it? romantically?" she searched his eyes to see if he was genuine. "why wouldn't i, olivia?" he shook his head.
"i love you too."
mason broke out into a smile and lightly pressed his lips against her nose and then her forehead. liv smiled, a furious blush spreading across her cheeks. mason got behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his head on top of hers.
little did the two lovebirds know, maddy and nayah saw and heard everything. they shared a mischievous look and high-fived each other under the table. "cake is ready!" nayah called out as everyone came back into the kitchen. liv looked at all of her friends happily. she was so glad she met them and she was at such a happy point in her life.
oh, well. if only that would last.
