Sam and I got the candles while also taking a little detour. We were running low on holy water so we had to go to the nearby Catholic church to get some. Once that was done, we picked up some extra salt in the off chance that we may have to use it. I wasn't sure how well it'll work considering shadow people are a different speciesism, but it didn't hurt to try. Walking back to the O'Malley residence, I kept my mind open in case the shadow people decide to make a return so soon. So far, nothing, but I started to hear music play in every house and business.
"It's too early...yet they're playing 'Papa Don't Scare Me,'" I said.
"There were no attacks last night, so these people probably thought that the song worked and wanted to get started soon," Sam said.
"Well, once we perform the ritual, the shadow people should be banished for good...at least these particular ones. There's a chance that others will come, but they'll at least cause a different kind of haunting than what's happening right now."
"What I don't understand is...how the Mafia managed to get the shadow people to listen to them."
Sam stopped in his tracks to look at me. "Rose...tell me...can humans control shadow people and have them do their bidding?"
I nodded. "It's very advanced magic but it is possible. There's a spell that ties down wild spirits, shadow people being one of them."
"How advanced are we talking?" Sam asked.
"My best guess...probably someone who has ties to Lucifer himself, or at least a very powerful demon," I said.
"Jesus Christ..."
We continued to walk to the O'Malley's, Sam still processing what I just told him. "You shouldn't be surprised Sam. I mean...look at what we do..." I gestured to the candles and holy water in the bag, the salt being in another one, "You really are surpirsed that people can have shadow people do the dirty work?"
"Not surprised," he said, "Just...concerned. I'm nervous that there may be more cases like this as we go along...because someone summoned them."
"The only way they could get shadow people this powerful is if they knew how to do the spell, as I said," I explained, "In fact, the spell is so advanced that not even the most powerful witches could do it. They have to get the right connection in order to do it."
I looked over at Sam, seeing that his expression finally started to relax a bit. I put the bag carrying the candles and holy water in my left hand, using my right hand to reach for Sam's. He immediately intertwined his fingers with mine like he did earlier, and I couldn't help but smile. My heart began to race a bit and my face felt warm, but I had to focus to make sure these shadow people were not sneaking up on us.
Once we reached the O'Malley residence, we immediately went to work. Dean, Sam and Seamus helped Mrs. O'Malley set up her bedroom as a safe space. We decided that it may be better off if she was not in the same room as Officer O'Malley when the shadow people come. The kids were at their grandparents who lived outside of the city limits, so we didn't have to worry about them getting hurt.
I lit the candles up, and they gave off a lovely lavender scent. I figured that they would be a good choice for this. Pleasant smelling items will often make a more positive energy, and my God do those shadow people hate that.
"So this is what you do?" Officer O'Malley asked, "You...hunt things like this?"
Once I finished the candles, I got the salt and began to barricade the area. "Something like that," I said, "I don't want to get into too much detail on what we do because too much information will put you a bit more at risk than you are right now."
"Still...the fact that all of this...it's real. It's not just some scary campfire story you'd tell with your friends. Sorry...I'm just talking too much..."
"No worries," I chuckled, "This isn't the first time someone who isn't in this life had a reaction like yours, so...I'm used to it."
Officer O'Malley sat on the chair I prepared for him inside the salt circle. "So kid...tell me, what got you into this life?"
"I was born into it, as was Sam and Dean. Seamus chose to pursue this after a traumatic event involving a monster."
"What do you mean by 'born into it?'"
"Sam and Dean's parents were hunters as were their parents and so on. Their folks tried to retire, but that ended up backfiring badly. I come from a long line of mediums and psychics, so...this or helping hunters on and off was the life for us."
"What made you choose the hunter's path?"
I gave him a small smile, my parents faces coming into my mine during a time we were happy. "Mom and Dad...they were killed because of a monster, so...I want to get whatever did that and prevent others from dealing with the same fate." I looked over to Sam, watching him load the guns with salt bullets with Seamus. "That...and the one person I truly fell in love with...I would much rather be in this life with him than be in a normal life without him."
"Ah, so you and taller boy are more than working partners," O'Malley said with a chuckle, "I had my suspicions, especially how close you two were on the couch when you explained everything."
I chuckled. "It was that obvious, huh? Also...tall boy?"
"I mean...dude's really big in height, so..."
That's not the only thing that's really big, I joked to myself.
"Well, I do hope you two get to that normal life...or at least something that's less...this," O'Malley said.
"In this life...once you're in, you're in," I said, "It's very difficult to get out. Sam's tried it, and it just caused more trauma. Demons...they never forgive nor forget, unfortunately."
"I can't imagine being in a lifestyle where the chances of getting out are slim to none."
"Which is why I'm not telling you a lot of information regarding our work," I said, "You have an opportunity to be normal."
Before we could get more into our conversation, Dean called for me. I ran to see what was going on and saw that he was starting to set up to go to his end of town. "We're just about done, kid," he said, "Walkie-talkies are all batteried up."
"Good," I said, "Make sure to keep it on you at all times. Do NOT lose sight of it."
"Gotcha. Alright boys! Let's head out."
Seamus and Dean started to head to the Impala, but Sam stopped next to me. "Give me a few minutes. I wanna talk to Rose."
Both men nodded and walked out the door. Sam used his finger to move my head to look at him. "Be careful."
"I know. You be careful as well."
He pulled me into his arms and kissed the top of my head. "I know you're probably going to get tired of me saying this every time we have to seperate, but I need to tell you I love you."
"I'll never get tired of it, Sam," I said, "I love you, too. You be careful as well."
He pulled me in for a quick kiss before pulling me in his arms, rubbing my back a bit and resting his chin on my head. We stayed there for a good minute before he finally walked to the door, turning to look at me one last time with a smile. Once he left the house, I took a deep breath and did what I could to calm down. I had to focus on this.
I went back into the living room to see Officer O'Malley still sitting within the salt circle. At least he follows directions. "You going to start the summoning?" he asked.
"Not yet. I wanna wait till the boys get to their designated area and then I'll lure the shadow people out."
"How are you going to do that?"
"I'm going to give off a huge negative energy field. They will be unable to resist it despite our setup to make this place more comfortable. Once I get them in here, I will stop the energy. You will then tell them to get out of your house. Remember to be really firm. They need to know that they are no longer welcomed here."
"Will I feel the negative energy?"
"Most likely, but once I bring out the positive energy, you'll feel okay."
Now all that was left is waiting. I held the walkie talkie in my hand in case I needed to respond to something quickly. I also did not want to miss any of the boys trying to get in touch with me. It wasn't long until the first call came in. "Seamus here. Made it to end of the city. Sam and Dean are heading to their spots. Over."
"Rose here. Copy that. Over and out."
I knew that Dean was speeding to get to these places, and I swear if he gets pulled over tonight...let's just hope that doesn't happen. One hour passed by before the second call came in. "Sam here. Made it to my end of the city. Dean is on his way to his spot. Over."
"Rose here. Copy that. Be careful, Sam. I love you. Over."
"I love you, too. You be careful as well. Over and out."
Another hour passed by, and I finally heard Dean's voice. "Dean here. Made it to my end of the city. Ready when you are, kid. Over."
"Rose here. Copy that. You be careful, asshat. Over and out."
I heard Dean chuckle on his end. "You be careful as well, doofus. Over and out."
All men were at their designated parts of the city. It was officially time. I checked the clock and saw that it was 10 pm. The sky was pitch black, almost like God even knew the darkness that was about to come. I turned over to Officer O'Malley. "You ready?"
He nodded, but I saw a little drop of sweat fall on his face. Pretty normal reaction for the most part. At least he wasn't having a panic attack. We needed negative energy, but I didn't want it to come because someone was in so much distress. I stood a little bit outside the salt circle and closed my eyee, manifesting the negative energy to attract the shadow people. Feelings of anger, sadness, digust, and every other emotion filled the room. This was probably the strongest I've ever manifested. Soon, I felt another presence in the room. I immediately stopped and opened my mind up.
They were here.
I turned to O'Malley, who began to sweat even more. "Banish them. Now."
He tried to speak, but no words were coming out of his mouth. When he tried to talk, his words jumbled. I was about to manifest calm energy for him when all of the sudden, I was thrown across the room by an unseen force. The entity pulled my hair, trying to lift me up, but before it could do that, I grabbed the holy water in my pocket and flicked it in the direction I thought the shadow person was in. I was released, but that didn't last long as I was pinned up against the wall, my breathing being constricted. Across the room I saw my shadow, but I wasn't alone. The figure of a man in a hat was also on the wall, yet there was no one in front of me.
I felt my world about to go dark, but the force let go of me, dropping me to the floor. I took in as much oxygen as I could, looking up to see O'Malley with the holy water bottle we gave him. "Banish them! Quickly!"
This time, there was no hesitation in his voice. He stood firmly, a look of anger on his face. "LEAVE MY HOUSE!!! YOU ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE!!! I HEREBY BANISH YOU FROM THIS PROPERTY!!"
I ran to the front door, soaking it with holy water to increase the chances of the shadow people leaving. Their energy was getting weaker, meaning they were leaving the house. Officer O'Malley continued to scream at the entities as I ran to the back door, also spraying that area with holy water.
Next thing I knew, the energy was gone.
The shadow people left.
Officer O'Malley continued to shout, but I cut him off, "Stop! You did it! They're gone!"
He went silent and looked at me in shock. I spoke into the walkie talkie. "Rose here! Spirits have been banished from the property! I repeat, spirits have been banished from the property! Banish them from the city, boys! Over and out!"
I began to head upstairs when O'Malley stopped me. "Wait...is that it?"
I nodded. "Yes. You can leave the circle. Put some holy water on you just in case and start sprinkling it around the house."
As I headed up the stair to check on Mrs. O'Malley, something began to feel...off. The energy was much different from the one downstairs, and it wasn't the same one the shadow people were giving off. I approached the main bedroom, knocking on the door before entering. Mrs. O'Malley was facing the window, her back turned against me. The window was open.
Shit.
It was then I recognized the energy. A demon has come to visit. "What are you doing here?" I asked.
Mrs. O'Malley turned around to face me, her eyes changing to pitch black for a quick second before grinning. "Well, well, well. I must say, you've gotten so much better at taking precautions, my dear. Didn't even realize that you demon trapped this whole room like no tomorrow. Unfortunately, your little friend here heard a little...knock outside the window, so she opened it up and broke the barrier."
Goddamnit! I told her to not move ANYWHERE, especially places that could break the barrier!
I was about to recite the exorcism but the demon held up Mrs. O'Malley's hand. "Don't bother with that shit. I won't be here for long."
"How do I know you're not going to jump into my body at any given moment?"
"Oh, please. You and I both know that if I wanted that, you would already be in my control. Actually, it seemee like a great idea. You've got the perfect vessel...something demons crave for."
"Okay, cut the bullshit. What do you want?"
The demon looked at the nails, giving me a small smirk. "I'm here to give you a message...from your boyfriend's old pal, Azazel."
I immediately froze when I heard that name, so the demon continued, "Tell him...it's almost time, and that you three better watch out. The war is coming, and we will succeed in it this time."
Before I could ask more questions, the demon kept its promise and immediately left Mrs. O'Malley's body. I ran over to her, making sure she didn't hit the ground hard. She was still breathing, thankfully. My mind could not shake off what the demon just told me.
What did it mean that the "war is coming?" What exactly were these demons planning? Most importantly, what was the Yellow Eyed Demon planning?

Sam, Dean, and Seamus returned to the house, all in good shape. Doesn't look like they had to put up a fight with these shadow people, thank God. While Seamus went to talk to Mr. and Mrs. O'Malley, I took Sam and Dean to the side and told them what the demon told me. "Thank God we put those demon traps up there," Dean said.
"No kidding," I scoffed, "I want to yell at Mrs. O'Malley for opening the window, but at the same time, I know she was scared and not in a rational mindset."
"Well, either way, good that it didn't come down to having her life taken away," Sam said.
"Still, I'm nervous on what the demon said...regarding Sam and this 'war.' I think I may have an idea on what they mean by that, but I'm not sure."
"What's your theory, kid?" Dean asked.
"You said there were other people like Sam, right? That the Yellow Eyed Demon did a similar act? I'm wondering...what if it's planning on rounding up all of them up?"
"For what purpose?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. All I know is it involves you and the other two people you've told me about."
"And the other people that we don't know about just yet."
"Maybe there's a way we can find the people the yellow eyed shit targeted," Dean said, "Rose, will those individuals be able to block your powers?"
"Possibly, yeah," I said, "I'll see if I can spot them in the next place we go to. I haven't felt anything here, so we just need to move on."
"Alright, let's hit the road then," Sam said, "Make sure those Shadow people aren't still roaming around looking for a new vessel."
As soon as Sam said that, Seamus walked up to us along with Officer O'Malley. "Okay, looks like we're all good to go," Seamus said.
"Wait for me out in the car," I said, "I wanna talk with Mr. O'Malley."
All three men went outside as I stayed behind. "Okay so, you're in the clear now, but to make sure they are off your back for good, you need to keep making sure this house is clean. Also, do not be afraid to practice some self care, like a soothing bath. You'll also want to keep some of that holy water for a bit. Mark the doors for the next few weeks."
"Gotcha," he said, "I definitely need a nice, hot bath after everything."
I chuckled. "Well...I guess this is goodbye."
"I guess it is. Thank you, Rose, for...everything. Words cannot express how much me and my wife are grateful for you and the boys."
I smiled, holding my hand out to give a friendly handshake before departing. Now we just gotta make sure these entities are gone for good. I met up with the men outside, ready to complete the case.
