The sky was a collage; a mix of a bright orange and a dull purple, haloing around clouds like the iris of an eye. Tree branches divided the sky into sections like cracks in glass.
You laid on the grass, witnessing the changes of the sky but even the beautiful sight did nothing to change the numbness in your body, the physical weight you felt just by staring blankly above you.
The echoes of your mother's voice rang in your head, playing over and over again like a broken record.
"Tendou has been coming over more often."
"Is that a problem?" you asked.
"No, of course not. It's just...doesn't he have volleyball practice? Is you being with him interfering with that?"
"I don't know," you whispered.
You closed your eyes.
With the softness in your mother's voice, you knew that she didn't mean it maliciously, but those words were enough to make you doubt your relationship with Satori.
Were you taking up too much of his time? Did he miss practice to be with you? Were your late night dates, the times where you'd sneak out to meet him, mean that he couldn't give it all during his practice and game? Did he even realize that he was doing it?
Why did you let these little things bother you? Why couldn't they just go over your head?
Only you and Satori knew what was best for your relationship. You shouldn't care about what other people say about it.
But you did.
Why else were you lying in a park just before the sun sets, bathing yourself in self-pity after a two-second conversation?
You opened your eyes. The clouds had moved and the colours were different, but the cracks still remained in the sky.

Tendou let a ball go past his block as he felt a soul-crushing rush of sadness go through him.
He landed on his butt with a thud. Tendou looked up and saw Ushijima, his lips were pressed in a thin line and his eyebrows furrowed, showing the slightest hint of worry. Silently, Ushijima held out a hand underneath the net.
Tendou blinked. The weight of the sadness still lingered like the reverb of thunder. He scrambled up to his feet hastily, almost comical like.
"I need to—" he pointed his fingers to the door. Not wanting for a response, he bolted through the door and to the club room.
Someone needed him.

Tendou found you beneath the trees, the back of your hand draped over your eyes. He walked over to you, slowly. A part of him wanted to yell at you for lying on the ground in the middle of the park, clearly not caring about the surrounding world. But he was more concerned that he felt like crap all the way there and it wasn't him.
"(Y/N)," he called, not wanting you to be scared that he was some type of creep coming up to you.
You didn't move from your spot, only raising one of your hands in a slight greeting.
He stopped a couple of steps away from you, not sure if you wanted to be left alone. "Whatcha doing there?"
"Watching the clouds."
Tendou looked up. With the sun setting, the sky was a dark blue with highlights of orange peeking through but there were no clouds. His eyes drifted towards you.
"Sounds fun. Can I join you?"
You jerked up and rubbed your eyes.
Tendou frowned. Your eyes were red and puffy and dry tears marked the corners of them.
"Don't you have practice right now?" they asked, their voice small.
He rubbed the back of his head. "It ended early."
"Really?"
He shrugged. "Well...I may have ended it early for me."
You turned your head away. "It's okay. You should probably go back to them. Don't you have a game coming up?"
The sadness had lessened when he saw you, but now it was back, and he didn't know if it was his own or yours. An uneasy silence rang through the park. He watched as you laid back down, eyes wide open.
The leaves rustled as Tendou sat down in his place. He puckered his lips and started stacking the fallen leaves. With every slight breeze of the wind, he pressed down the stack and waited for it to dissipate. The repetitive motive was relaxing.
"What are you doing?"
Tendou's eyes darted your way before focusing back on his ever-growing tower. It was just above his crossed knee. "What does it look like? Making a leaf tower."
You blinked. "I meant—Why are you still here? Go to practice."
"But I'm building something," he said, gesturing to the leaves. "Maybe I could get a prize if I make it tall enough."
"Satori."
Tendou sighed and met your eyes. "There will be other practices. (Y/N), I felt your hurt when a ball was flying towards my face. You don't have to tell me what happened, but I'm not leaving." He paused, tilting his head to the side. "That sounds kind of strange, but you know what I mean...right? I'm not very good at this."
Your shoulders relaxed and you laid back down. The sun was long gone, not a cloud in sight. "Want to join me?"
Without hesitation, Tendou got up and laid by your side. A comfortable silence took over the two of you. The wind picked up, not enough to move you from your spots but enough for Tendou to know his leaf building had met an early demolition.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"It—The more I think about it, the stupider it sounds."
"Nothing you say is stupid to me." Tendou licked his lips and rolled over to face you. He inched his hand closer to where you were, not touching you. Yet. "Is this about volleyball? You've never really mentioned it before."
You pursed your lips. "My mom...she noticed that we've been spending a lot more time together —which, I love, like, no complaints here— but she said that I might be taking time away from your practising?" You turned over too, eyes widening slightly when you saw that Tendou already had. "Am I?"
Tendou's hand encased yours and your eyes locked. They were cold but so were his, the two of you matched. Not just with emotions because of the whole soulmate thing, but with everything; when you smiled, it made him want to smile and every ounce of love you showed him, he wanted to give it back ten-fold.
He planned to match with you for a long time.
"Satori?" you asked. "Are you okay? You haven't been saying anything."
He blinked. "I'm easily distracted."
You furrowed your brows.
Tendou grinned, tightening his grip on your fingers. "Is now a bad time to tell you that I plan to quit after high school?"
"What? But you're—" you cut yourself off.
He raised his brows expectantly. "I'm what?"
"You're amazing at it."
Heat rose to his cheeks. "Thank you, but I think I'll become Wakatoshi's number one fan instead. That's much more my speed anyway." He paused. Your eyes were glossed over, unfocused. "Are you mad at me?"
He couldn't detect any emotions in him that might be yours. Tendou always wondered how long that would last, not that he was in a rush to get rid of it. He liked feeling your sparks of emotions, happy or sad.
You turned your gaze away from him, looking back up at the sky. You smiled. The sky had turned dark, making the cracks that disturbed the beauty of colour blend in with it. "I'm not mad. It's a little shocking to hear, but I want you to do everything you want to do even if it's not volleyball."
Tendou copied your actions, his eyes bright against the night. "What do you think about Paris?"
