On this day, but thirteen years past,
A plane did smash our serene beliefs.
It happened in a blink so fast,
We never even realized the real motifs.
Not long, another shock, a second did arrive,
The twin did suffer the fate of the other.
Anguish and pain, no man could deprive,
Sons and daughters stripped from their mother.
Horror, followed horror, as worlds eyes watched,
Innocents denied the right to life.
No one knew what evil mind had this hatched,
Or could foresee the future unending strife.
With the collapse into rubble and dust,
Heroes perished bravely, with victims so nearly saved.
Tears did flow around the world as it must,
Because of this atrocious carnage of one depraved.
Boldly and with brazen disregard for these actions,
A villian born of cowardice, proudly claimed the act.
Hidden away from detection, he laughed at our reactions.
He mocked, gloated and rejoiced and this is a fact!
He awoke a nation, her friends and allies.
He thought himself safe and untouchable.
He never realized the heroism that there lies,
Buried in the hearts of people who are able.
It is small consolation to the many relatives,
That the monster who thought himself above harm,
No longer amongst us lives.
He forgot retribution has a long arm!
So many perished on this day,
How can one evil, sadistic butchers demise,
Appease a nations hurt some might say?
The answer to that might just surprise.
This day shall always be remembered,
Not just by Americans but also by others.
The fallen heroes shall be revered,
We of the services honour our brothers.
