You're not sure how it came about. The timeline of events that led you to this moment. Your brain is fuzzy and your stomach churns as you wait silently in the small cafe. The hot cup in the palm of your hands has gone cold, but remains untouched as the delicate art of top remains intact.

Your neck gets chills as a gust of air blows in through the entrance, making way for a woman who looks as dishevelled as you feel. Her hair is tied up in a mess, eyes and nose red as she breathes heavily through her mouth. Her eyes scan the cafe before landing on you.

Her shoulders scrunch up, and you feel yours do the same unconsciously. Visibly gulping, she runs over, sitting in the chair in front of you and grabbing our hands tightly. She lowers her forehead to your knuckles sobbing quietly as she gasps out broken apologies and promises of unknowing circumstances.

No one but you can hear her over the busy sound of the cafe. Dryness takes over your throat as you try to respond, holding her cold fingers in your own.

"I had no idea," she chokes. "I'm so sorry. So sorry. I left that note as soon as I realized."

You remember it. The small piece of paper taped to the inside of your shoe that you hadn't put away with a messily written message and a phone number.

There were doubts in your marriage. You knew. The sinking feeling every time he couldn't give you a straight answer. The misplaced items that you were certain to have left in one location only for them to be in another. The strands of hair in the shower that were too long to be his and were the wrong colour, length, and texture to be yours. The jewelry boxes you had found randomly while cleaning, only for them to disappear the next day without a trace.

When the woman looks up she chokes, dropping your hands to instead hold your cheeks and wipe away the tears under your eyes. You didn't even notice they were there.

After a moment, she shifts her chair to be next to yours, letting your head fall on her shoulder. "He doesn't deserve you." She wipes her eyes with the back of her hand. "When he was in the shower, I went snooping. I found his ring and the wedding photo's tucked in the bedside drawer. He told me you two were high school buddies, best friends for life. I was a fool."

You blink away the tears as you sigh. Only then do you remember her name. Akira rests her cheek against your head as you begin to speak, quiet and meek, tired from all the tears you've cried over the past week. "In his vows, he said we would be best forever, that I was his greatest treasure greater than gold, and that he'd never give up on me. I feel like I've done something wrong. They were all lies."

"I don't want to hurt you more than I already have—"

"You knew nothing, it's not your fault. It's Kuroo's. He's to blame here. If anything, you've sped up the process, making it easier for me."

"Even so." Akira nudges your head with her chin, beckoning you to meet her eyes but not forcing you out of a place of comfort. She's a stranger; never before seen in your eyes, and yet she lets you cling to her as you both bawl over a worthless man. You're tied together over an experience you've never expected. "Those vows. They're worthless."

You see tears build up in her eyes, and you know immediately the damage that has been done. "He said the same to you. Didn't he." It's not a question, but Akira nods, dropping her forehead against yours as she holds back a sob.

Between choked breaths, "Every. Single. Time. Under the sheets. God, what an asshole," she gets the words out.

Your heart wrenches, and your eyesight becomes null as tears overtake your vision.

The two of you talk. For hours.

First the damage, every piece of evidence that Akira has collected including the white stick that sat in her purse.

Then comfort, accompanied by a sorrowful-looking waiter that gives Akira a few extra brownies and your refills of wine throughout the night. This is where you both find out that you work in the same building, company, and floor, somehow have been evading each other's existence and fall into Kuroo scheme even more.

Followed by the plan, where you lay out the signed divorce documents for her to look over as a third-party opinion.

"I'll help," you say, holding eye contact with Akira as your fiddle with the plastic stick in your hand, thumb brushing over the small section where two pink lines are visible. "I'll help you if you want it. I have the money from this," you point to the papers. "Anything."

She shakes her head. Smiling kindly. "No. I'm not keeping it. As kind as the offer is, I don't want to burden you any more than I already have."

You nod solemnly, handing her the pregnancy test and folding up your documents. "Do you have an appointment?" you ask, taking the final sip of your wine. The waiter comes back, asking if you want a refill, to which you finally decline. Akira's eyes follow his back as he leaves.

"Next week, luckily. I don't want to carry any part of Kuroo with me after this. It feels disgusting, wrong." She flips the stick between her fingers before dropping it into her purse.

"May I go with you? To the appointment?"

She laughs. "Scared I'll change my mind?"

Smiling, you shake your head and reach to pull her hand into yours. "I just want to keep you company. It's a stressful experience. Worse now, considering our circumstances. And hey, we'll be seeing more of each other now that we know we're coworkers. I don't want to have anything be left on a sour note."

She looks down at your bare finger, where you once had a ring.

"If you will. I'd appreciate it."

Kuroo's standing in the entryway of your home when you get back after meeting Akira the following week, carrying a large box in his hands. Every one of his belongings is in boxes, stacked by the door. The centre of his eyebrow pushes up as he sees you walk through the door.

"(Y/N)—"

"(L/N)." You brush past him, setting your bag down as you go for a glass of water. There's a deep thunk behind you as Kuroo drops the box and follows you into the kitchen.

"(Y/N), wait. We need to talk—"

You hold the empty glass under the tap. "You're right. Leave the house key on the table as you leave."

He brushes a hand through his hair. "No, (Y/N). I mean talk about what happened."

Not meeting his stare, you fill the glass to the rim again. "We talked about what happened in our court hearing for the divorce. He admitted to infidelity, and paid me justly without arguing over our belongings and money."

"That's..." He lets out an exasperated grunt. "Where have you been anyway?"

"Me?" You cock an eyebrow, looking him up and down. "I wonder."

"(Y/N). Tell me. Stop acting snotty, it's not like you." He's frustrated. You chug back the water again, stopping near the bottom. You let the last bit fall out of the glass and fall into the drain.

You smirk, sipping back on your glass as you wave your hand nonchalantly. "Oh, with Akira."

"Akira." He breathes, suddenly uncomfortable under to direct stare. He averts his gaze. "How has she been."

You huff smirking wider. "Oh, you know. Pregnant."

He stands straighter eyes widening. He almost looks excited and it makes you feel sick to your stomach. "Pregnant? I'm going to be a father?"

You've talked to Akira about this very situation. You tisk, feeling a sort of guilty pleasure build up in your chest at the thought of what you were about to say next. You give him a look akin to that of an evil queen stomping the princess' dreams into the mud.

"Going?" You guffaw, throwing your head back in fake laughter. Though it was hard not to burst into genuine laughs. "Oh, no, no, no. You must be mistaken. You're not going to be a father Kuroo." He gives you a bewildered look. "I accompanied Akira to the abortion clinic for moral support. Lord knows you wouldn't have."

He's angry, but you can't seem to care about that as he nearly screams in your face. "What did you do you conniving—"

"Me? Conniving? Who's the one that has been cheating behind their spouse's back for six months? Sorry to break it to you Kuroo,"— his last name flicks off your tongue in a vicious bite— "But Akira booked that appointment before I even met her. I had no sway on her opinion, even offered to help support the baby with your money that I got out of the divorce."

You step closer to him, forcing him to lean back.

"Remember Kuroo. All this is happening because of you." Your nose nearly brushes against his as you look to the forgotten boxes by the entrance. "Now get out of my house."

Kuroo watches from the driver's seat of the moving van as you saunter up from your home book in hand. Your face is solemn, almost bare of emotion as you drop the large book into his lap through the window. You sigh, but don't meet his eyes as Kuroo stares at you. Instead, you watch the clouds drift by slowly.

"I spoke to Kenma the other day," Your usage of his friend's first name stings. "He was disappointed, but not surprised." You finally look into the open window and hold Kuroo's eye's with a dead expression. "Not surprised. I should've known sooner."

You smack the window frame twice and back away from the small truck, nodding your head to gesture to the book in his lap. "Toss that is the trash for me will ya? Better yet, burn it."

Once you're gone, tucked away behind the wooden door of your house, Kuroo finally looks at the hefty book, only to be met with a photo of the both of you during your wedding ceremony tucked into the clear sleeve on the cover.

Well, this was surprisingly fun to write. Please I'm not great at angst. Kiwi probably would've written the last two (this one and last one) had they not been drowning in school work.

I think by the time this is up Kiwi will be able to post one-shots? You'll find out the same time I do. - Bacon

Soon (at the time of writing this) but I could be back when this goes upppp - Kiwi
