It's been a few years since I made my choice. I took a deep breath before carrying a bouquet of roses...
To Addison's grave.
"Hey, sis..." I said softly before setting them down.
"I know it's been awhile... I am a bad sister I know. But where do I begin?" I said.
Even though she's not here to tell her the truth...

Few years earlier...
David... My mind said his name.
I think I finally made up my mind of what to do now.
I dialed Melanie's number and paced back and forth.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Hey... I made up my mind."
"Oh really? What did you pick?"
"I chose to be part of the band and give up the Vlog Squad."
"Okay..." Melanie said understanding as she called Joanna, the manager.
"Hey..."
"Jo, I want to be part of the band with Melanie."
"I was waiting for your reply. I'll send over the contract soon."
"I have one request though."
"Sure. What is it?"
...
Few days later...
I made it to David's place. I anxiously knocked.
Few minutes of silence was eating me alive. My phone goes off and it was Hayes.
Hayes:
Hey. You free?
I swiped and put in my passcode to reply:
About to shoot the messenger, TTYL.
I turned my phone off as David answered the door.
"Maeve!" David cries as he hugs me.
"Hey... Dave." I awkwardly said.
"Come in," he said with a warm smile.
God it's gonna hurt lots...
"David, you have to be sitting down for this..."
"Is that Maeve I hear?" Nathalie's voice said.
Eventually her, Todd, and most of the squad was here and some had their cameras in their hand.
I half smiled but the whole thing was making me more upset internally of breaking it not only to David but to all of them. I've known them for ages and they are family...
Well were.
"Everything ok, Maeve?" David asked.
He signals for everyone to pause their cameras as I shed some tears.
"This is hurting for me to say this but..." I paused turning towards David and giving back his ring, "I can't accept this David."
"What?!" He said in shocked.
Others were too shocked.
"I am leaving the Vlog Sqaud to pursue my career with Melanie. This is all I ever wanted." I paused motioning towards Nathalie and David.
"You both know I always loved singing as a kid."
"Yeah..." Nathalie awkwardly says.
"But why give up everything you just built?" One of the members asked.
"And give up your full relationship with David?"
And that's what I feared the most: everyone being disappointed in me.
"No... this can't be Maeve... I..." David said tears in his eyes.
"David, I'm sorry."
"They're right: why would you give up this? We helped you build your career. And all of memories together as a couple and proposing to you means nothing?!"
I couldn't let them do this to me.
"First of all: you've hurt me twice David Julian Dobrik! Marrying Lorraine, then unexpectedly show up to New York!" I paused, "And what we had I put it past me. I had to think whether if I want to be stuck in this rut with no progress. And what you did really hurt me and broke my trust with you. I can't be with you if you could just make pranks to hurt me more and more." I went on with my anger.
And there's something I learned from this: everyone had their real sides to show through all of this.
After one big fight, I left and never came back.
Now
After ending things with the vlog squad, the whole scandal broke out and I wasn't surprised. Trisha is only in the picture and tries to make me comment on it and drag me into it online but I ignore it.
"So... yeah they're not the nicest people as expected."
The only members I still speak to is the Antonyan family including Vardan (because he had a crush on Addie at one point) but it's mainly neutral and nothing special.
"Hey..." a little voice spoke.
And speaking of the devil.
"Hey Vardan, long time no see.."
"Yeah... I figured to see her every once in awhile."
I half smiled as he too brought flowers.
"Hey there's something I want to ask."
"Go ahead."
"If you didn't accept that accidental invite, where would you be now?"
I chuckled.
"Oh god probably working a small grocery store or somewhere... until I get noticed and would've been a singer."
Vardan nods.
"You know... I have to be honest: I was gonna ask her out before she died."
That explains his reaction awhile back... I thought.
"You really did like Addie, huh?" I asked with a small warm smile.
"I did..." Vardan paused with the gloomy look in his eyes.
"Even though I saw comments of her I didn't care what she looked: she was nice, funny, kind..."
That's so adorably wholesome...
"I'll admit too: before I met the squad she did mention about a lil' celeb crush on you." I said as I can picture Addie freaking out and blushing like a cherry tomato right now.
"R-R-Really?" He said surprised.
"Mhmm.." I said as my phone goes off.
Hayes❤️:
Hey, beautiful. You ready to go?
...Yes I got with Hayes. Hayes has been there for me and his feelings came back while we bonded and I too caught feelings for him. And everything felt so right and he does spoil me rotten.
So far the fans don't know yet.
Yeah, you can come and meet her if you want :)
Then I heard footsteps behind me and felt a hug behind me.
"Guess who?" Hayes' voice said.
Vardan looked shocked.
"Aren't you...!?" Vardan was trying to find the right words as he was shocked.
"Yeah, I'm Maeve's boyfriend."
I saw Vardan's mom waiting for him as he waved.
"Hey, Addison..."
Hayes kneeled down talking as if my sister was there.
I felt that feeling inside me telling me I know that Addie wouldn't be satisfied with this ending but... I know my lil adopted sis would support me whatever I chose.
"So... you ready to go?" He asked as I felt like I shed some tears.
"Wait are you okay babe?" He asked putting his hands on my shoulders.
"I'm fine. Just missing her is all." I truthfully said.
Hayes and I walked together as he put his arm around me.
Out of the blue: I get a text.
Aunty Deb:
Hey, pumpkin. Just finally got time in between. How are you?
...Yes. I was able to find my aunt. She's a Broadway director and I was able to find most of my surviving in family. (Dad died years ago, mom is in rehab for her addictions.) I've been close to my aunt as she helped me find the puzzle pieces to my own biological family.
I'm okay. I'm with Hayes at the moment. How about you, Aunty?
Aunty Deb:
Nono. I don't want to steal time away from your boyfriend.
I half smiled.
It's okay, Aunty... You never steal the time from Hayes. Plus: he wouldn't mind at all.
"Mae?" Hayes' concerned voice said as I looked up to see....
David Dobrik.
"David." I said his name in an annoyed voice.
"Hey..." He said awkwardly.
"You better give us a reason why you're here."
"Uh, it's a cemetery?"
"Hayes... can I speak to him for one moment?"
Hayes didn't say anything for a second, keeping his cool.
"Sure, babe."
I walked away with David.
"Like Hayes said: you better explain to yourself."
"Mae-"
"Maeve." I corrected.
"Maeve... I..." David was flustered.
I eye rolled. No surprise David is here to try to hit on me while my sister's grave is not far.
"David... I'm a loyal girl. Hayes makes me happy." I admit blushing as I looked back to see Hayes patiently waiting and admiring me from afar.
"It's just... being away from you sucks."
"That's because of the separation anxiety." I commented.
"I know... it's just... Maeve. I feel like a damned fool. You were my dream since we were kids. We made that promise."
Sometimes... promises are meant to be broken. I thought.
"David..."
"Maeve." He said my name.
"David, this is very rude. I've told Addie that-"
"She's dead, Maeve."
I stood there somewhat menacingly and my brain just felt like quoting the Titanic at this awkward moment.
"She exists now. Only in my memories." I said offended.
"Maeve... I just want to apologize everything. I want to be there-"
"You've lost your chance. David. It's been 2 years since we've been broken up... I have a successful life in the different spotlight. If I did chose you, I'd be only going nowhere as the vlogger in the vlog squad or known as "David's fiancé" I went on.
"But Scotty is a singer he doesn't-"
"Whatever you're trying to say.... David. I want you to move on. Find another girl. Find hobbies or something. I'm not interested in going back. It's just asking for social suicide. The Veronica to the Heathers... the Cady to the Plastics..."
God fucking damn it brain, stop quoting movies!
"But that what makes you: you. You're not a-"
"David..."
"Mae! We should get going!" Hayes said from afar as I looked at David one last time.
I tried to leave but David grabbed my wrist.
"Maeve... I'll-"
"David. Let me go." I said begging as I see Hayes approaching me.
"Let her go, man. Whatever you told her she probably said she isn't interested going back to you."
David looked at Hayes threateningly.
"Back off, man." He said.
Oh man he made a wrong choice... he has forgotten Hayes was a football star and still plays it with the group on his days off.
"Hayes, babe. Let's just go. I'll pay for ice cream after. Ok?"
"Babe...-"
"Hayes. Violence isn't always the answer."
He huffed and puffed, starting at David coldly while David was looking with threatening eyes.
"David..."
"Yes?"
"I want to say one thing though: even though you're an asshole, you helped me find a standing and a door to my career so... thanks." I said genuinely.
"You're... welcome." David finally said something towards me.
He finally lets me go.
I get into the car and looked at David who looked very defeated.
You're probably asking me: if I ever regret this choice? No. I don't.
Like I said: if I was still with David. My story would've been a long one with us married, me still vlogger, just going nowhere career wise.
Not to mention: the pranks he did hurt me and what if he kept doing them? I'd probably would've had a breakdown.
So... again: no. I don't regret it.
Why?
Because some stories don't have the happy fairytale endings.
And mine is just that.
Me... A happy girlfriend to Hayes. A singer with my closest friend with Melanie. A niece, daughter, etc to my biological family and adopted.
I grabbed my phone and scrolling through and found Nathalie's old text.... the accidental invite. The thing that helped me not only reconnect with my friends, but my past lover.
As well the crazy journey it put me through.
I smiled as I just put my phone to sleep and just fell asleep on the car dash.
The end
So uh... Hey thanks for reading through this fanfic of mine. I know the ending isn't what people had expected. I just find the whole "Dave and Maeve married and having kids," and shit too cheesy for me. Especially with the scandal that made me definitely made me have changed perspective about the members.
I only kept this fanfic up for memory/nostalgic purposes. That and didn't want to leave you guys hanging and disappoint you.
