"Not what again Prince?" Luz asked, looking back at him slightly.
He wiggled his butt before pouncing on the bed, so close to falling back, pulling himself up, laying down by her. "Sourpuss here wants to tell you his life story." Mattias barked.
*You've all seen animated movies make dogs do that right? It's not just me?
"I was gonna say that!" Prince snarled.
"You took too long, hesitating is a great way to loose something." Mattias growled, sitting down.
"Then you'll very much like to tell his story?"
"On second thought, you can go ahead and tell us this very boring story."
Prince huffed, looking back at Luz; "But Nero's like six (6) months old.." The witch mumbled.
"Actually I'm eight (8) months old."
"He says he's eight (8) months old." Prince barked.
"Oh..Do start your story then.."
Six (6) months ago
A stray black kitty covered in mud scurried to get across the street, hissing at a passerby as it tried to pet him. He ran towards the grassy area, sniffing the air, then turning left. He trotted over to the stand, a passerby spotting him. "Hisss!"
The human offered him a piece of their boiled egg, the kitten hesitantly taking it. He mewed, his tail swaying from side to side, the human offering him some more. "Hey cute kitty, you good there?"
"Mew!"
"Want some more?"
His tail wagged swiftly, the kitten letting out another mew. The human stood up again, asking for another boiled egg, the kitten looking around the scenery while they waited. The human placed the plate down in front of him, the kitten quickly eating the egg.
The kitten finished it in a heartbeat, looking back up at the human, mewing. "Already done huh?"
"Mew!"
"Alright, I'll go get some kibble. Wait here for me yeah?"
"Mew?"
The human went past him, going to the store across the street, the kitten hiding while he waited patiently. "Wait wait wait-"
Come on Luz, he's telling his backstory! "What?" Nero mewed.
"You are no patient cat."
"I so am!"
"That's not grammatically correct." Mattias barked.
"Oh shut up!" Nero hissed.
Luz pushed his head down in to the pillow, the kitten hissing and yowling, wanting to be released. "Skip to the important details! If you wouldn't mind." Luz huffed.
"Fine fine! Let me go!"
Luz pulled her hand back, Nero standing upright, shaking his head, hissing quietly at Luz. "Right. My story, Prince?"
The mutt rolled his eyes, getting ready to continue.
As the days went by, the same human came by over and over again, four (4) times a week, three (3) meals a day with water during lunch. "How are we doing tonight Quince?"
"Mew!"
"Your name was Quince?" Luz asked, very confused.
"Yes it was! Can I keep going or not!?"
Prince repeated all that for the witch, Luz nodding. "Sorry sorry, please, continue."
Sigh. Continuing. "Are you..Ready to come home with me?"
Quince took a small step back, the human frowning, filling up the small bowl of water. "One day. Right?"
"Mew!"
"Night buddy, don't stay out too late, I'll see you on Friday." The human said, getting up, walking down the street.
But when Friday came, he never showed. The human never came back after that, and netheir did Quince. He had..Forgotten about the kitten. A few months went by, Quince had searched the whole city. Nothing. So he had nothing to do, but survive.
This is the interesting part, this is the day before he met Luz. Quince had been at the Botanical garden for about a week, he hadn't hurt any of the animals, he ate some of the food the guests would give him, and eat some veggies from the gardens.
He was spotted by some of the workers, but they didn't mind him if he didn't hurt any of the geese, ducks, foxes, or any of the animals. Some even left him some food bowls outside of the back rooms for him to be at if he was ever hungry. But he never used them, the humans would try to pet him, some even tried to pick him up.
Quince didn't trust those humans, those humans sometimes threw their trash at him, but his only task was to survive til he eventually passed away. But the next glorious morning, was the day he got a new family.
When Luz had stepped off the bus with Mrs.Hazel, he felt like she was good luck. He just had a feeling about Luz, a good one. So you know what Quince did? He stalked her. Mhm. He stalked Luz, hiding in the bushes, trees, behind guests, just to keep an eye on Luz.
That's when he found, Raven. Raven had been eating berries from one of the guests, said guest thinking they were so cute and allowing Raven to eat their snacks. Quince had gone over, hopping on to the table, nuzzling Raven, mewing quietly.
Raven hopped aside a bit, nudging the small plate to him, Quince taking a berry or two before hopping down. "Henry wasn't that cute?~"
"Yes yes dear, whatever you say."
Quince rolled his eyes, trotting down the path, finding Luz again, but a bit too many humans. Amity. And Amelia. "She's over this way?" The blonde haired human asked, pointing to a path.
"That's what Skara said." The greenette shrugged.
Amity hummed, walking down the path; "Prince you're heavy!"
Only to be met and tackled by a dog. Quince quickly climbed up a tree, hissing quietly at the mutt, said mutt lining up with the human below him. "Oh heya!" Prince barked.
"HISSS!!"
Prince barked at him, snarling quietly before getting up with the human. Quince spotted Luz, getting on a slightly lower branch to get a closer eye on her. 'She doesn't look human..' Quince thought, getting a tad bit closer to the end of the branch.
Another human came over, Quince sitting up right, examining the area a bit. He watched them do their thing, til they looked up, Quince hiding in the leaves, the Raven he was with earlier landing down on the branch. He spotted Quince, using his wing to wave at him, jumping off the branch and flying down to Luz.
Quince saw them go back to the tables, the kitten carefully going down the tree, scurrying to go to the building nearby. He watched them from a distance, feeling something, or rather, someone loom over him. He looked back, a big goose standing over him. "Whatcha doing there. Kid?" It honked.
"Woah you're tall- Uh-"
"You here to take my hatchlings? You here to hurt my partner? You here to kill her or me!?"
"Woah woah, hey hey- I'm just keeping an eye on that human- I'm not here to hurt anyone-" Quince mewed, standing up, reversing his steps.
"Back off!" The goose hissed.
"You guys can hiss!? I'm not going to hurt you!" Quince hissed a bit, continuing to back up.
The goose flapped his wings in Quince's face, hissing and barking, Quince very surprised they were bilingual. "Back off back off back off!"
"Come on man! I don't even know you! Let me just keep an eye on this kid!"
"My hatchlings! Back off! Get outta here!" He hissed.
Another goose called out to him, the goose hissing at Quince before quickly scurrying to his partner. Quince mewed in relief, looking back at the spot he saw Luz at. "She's gone! Oh no! Stupid goose I lost the kid!"
Quince looked around, going in the direction the goose went in, spotting him in a nest by a tree. Quince trotted over, catching his attention, "Hey! My nest! Back off!"
"No no! I-I need a favor since you kinda messed it up for me! Help me look for a kid!"
"Help him out George, he's just a kitten." The female goose honked.
The gander hissed at Quince, the kitten backing up a bit. "I'm not leaving you alone with the eggs."
"I'll be fine, the human checks up on me in a bit to feed me." She honked.
"But.."
"Help the kitten. The hatchlings aren't coming til next week."
He looked at Quince, picking him up by his neck, spreading his wings and flying up.
They found Luz outside with Amity, George flying down on to a tree, putting Quince down. "Thank you! You'll be a great father y'know."
"I do know." He hissed. "Some humans are dangerous and won't hesitate to hurt you. If we don't see ya around anymore, we'll assume the worst."
"She doesn't seem like a bad human. She doesn't even look human. There's something about her.."
"Yeah yeah, I have a partner to go care for, see ya kitten." He honked, spreading his wings and flying off.
Quince watched him leave, getting down the tree carefully. He sneakily went over to Luz, two girls with her now and a mutt. "Yuck dogs." Quince mewed under his breath.
Luz got up, the blonde haired human going inside, Luz walking with a woman with indigo hair, Raven on her shoulder, and a mutt by Luz. Quince looked around, following from a distance.
Eventually, he saw an opening in her bag, waiting for her to stop by a car, climbing up said car and slipping in her bag. "Here goes to finding a family.. That doesn't forget me at least.."
