you hadn't seen sucrose for a whole day now, and it felt weird. usually, she'd be running up to you with things she needed help with. you got used to her always needing your help that it felt weird without her today.
"waiting for someone? you look anxious."
you turned to see albedo, who had a few books in his hands. he must be on his way to return the books to lisa, wouldn't want to be caught dead carrying the books from the library overdue.
you nodded at him. "yes, sucrose actually, have you seen the girl?"
"yes i have," he replied gently. he gestured towards his small hut in the distance, near the houses. "she's helping me rearrange boxes and other alchemy stuff. i think she's getting tired of my constant workload."
you chuckled and bowed to him as thanks. "alright, well i'll go over and see if she needs my help. good luck returning those books!" you waved at him, and he nodded as he watched you run over to his hut before going towards the library.
the hut wasn't albedo's house, more like his private working station where he made most of his alchemy magic. you opened the door without much thought and sucrose, who wasn't expecting anyone, screamed loudly, which pierced your ears.
she spun around all flustered and when she noticed it was you, she started to apologise. "ah- ahhhhh! y-y/n! its y-you... ahh i-i am s-so sorry for uh... screaming like that i- i... uh....."
you waved your hand dismissively as you shut the door behind you, scattering the back of your neck nervously. "its alright sucrose just- why didn't you call for my help today?"
"e-eh..?"
you sat down beside her near the empty and filled boxes. there were books and alchemy equipments that you took notice of. albedo rarely ever touched these, so it would make sense that sucrose found it absolutely irritating to have around. something you didn't use but kept around, was it because he liked it.
you didn't know, not like you really typically watched over him.
"i mean, you always call for my help.." you began. you saw her expression change and she flushed red even more, looking away as she tugged on her ears.
"i- i just... didn't want to bother you y-y/n i-" she fidgeted with her fingers. "you know... i'm trying to be independent... and n-not to ask others for help..."
you understood.
you leaned closer and gave her a pat on the back as she flinched from your touch. you giggled at how easily scared and flustered she got at times, and didn't wish to bully her any further. you crossed your legs and started to pack some stray books into the boxes.
"you know, if its too much to handle, its alright to call for help," you told her. she blushed and watched as you slowly packed away the books and letters and contracts he had signed a while back into the boxes and baskets. she watched carefully as you placed albedo's glass flowers and geo related items into a small basket which was labelled with his name.
she didn't want to make a mistake as she really appreciated albedo and didn't want him to think that she was a clumsy girl, which she actually was but... she was trying to change that.
"u-um... y/n..?" she called. you turned your head around and she blushed shyly. "s-sorry but uhm... could y-you uh... d-do the more heavy ones... i-im sorry im so sorry! i don't mean to ask much of you its just- i- im not physically strong enough t-"
you giggled and patted her shaking shoulder as the girl struggled to form her sentences. she was so shy that she was already having issues looking at you. she would rather be alone, but then again you were making it so hard for her.
"its alright its aright, i will deal with the heavy ones so you don't have to." you stood up and walked over to the otherside where the heavy metals and glass equipments were. you started to stack them together and place them neatly on the shelves. you noticed that sucrose was still feeling utterly terrible, so you tried to calm her down.
you gestured for her to come over, and she did, rather quickly. she stood beside you and you giggled at her.
"watch this."
you raised your finger and small plants started to emerge from the ground, slowly but surely bringing the box up with it, pushing it upwards. sucrose looked at the box being pushed up by your plants in awe until it reached where you could grab. you took the box and placed it on the shelf. "there see? that's easier isn't it?"
she clapped her hands together. "that was... amazing y/n!"
you nodded. "you could use your powers to do that too."
"i- i could?"
"just use your wind to guide some of the stray stuff on the ground." you insisted. she nodded and went off to do her side of the work while you called more plants to help you rearrange his stuff.
some of the ivy went over to grab a few empty cans and bottles and kept them in albedo's cabinet while your thick vines moved some shelves into a more comfortable-looking area. you made sure that your plants were doing everything in the correct order while you arranged some boxes.
you took a look at sucrose to see how she was doing, and you saw her guiding some test tubes with her wind from the racks to the boxes in her hand. you smiled when you saw her face lighting up in happiness.
"thats pretty good sucrose."
she flinched and blushed even more. "a-ahh.. thank you..."
you two went on like this, and after a while, everything was done. you two combined dendro and anemo to clean up the general dust and mess on the floor before you both exited his hut to find albedo walking back towards it. when he saw you two, he smiled and walked over.
"how's the cleaning going?"
you nodded. "its done. sucrose did a lot."
albedo turned to look at his apprentice as she flushed red and ducked her head down, completely flustered. "n-no no a-ah... y/n helped too... a lot more than me.."
albedo smiled and patted sucrose's shoulder. "hey, no need to be so modest, you've done great im sure," he then turned to you and gave you a pat on the head. "you too."
you and sucrose both exchanged smiles before albedo dissapeared into his hut, ready to conduct experiments again. stretching your arms, you and sucrose started to walk down the path. the sun was almost setting, and that meant it was time for dinner.
"hey, sucrose?"
she perked up. "ah y-yes?"
"would you like to catch dinner with me?"
she blushed but smiled at you, happily nodding her head. "y-yeah, let's go have dinner together!"
