despite multiple warnings from your father, you had decided to follow your harbinger friend scaramouche into the beast mountains atop of the snezhnayan lands, since he promised you very beautiful and interesting monsters and decorations despite the hazardous atmosphere and high acidity of the snowy mountains combined with hail storms and rain.
your father had warned you about the beast mountains before, because as an adeptus, he has ventured around the world. you had told scaramouche all about your father, as you were always very proud of him. adeptus xiao- such a beautiful and amazing name, you were always so proud that you had him as a father.
but then again, not today you weren't.
despite being far too young to understand much about adepti, your father couldn't accompany you to the soaring waterfalls like he had promised, and you had been upset the whole afternoon when he sent you off to play with your mother instead, who unfortunately was also an adeptus, and she didn't have much time to accompany her own child.
"my parents are always too busy for me..." you grumbled as scaramouche led you up the mountains. the cold had hit you countless of times, and you didn't really understand why the frosted snowflakes sliced your skin sometimes; as if it was a papercut. "they're both always saying they will take me out to play..."
scaramouche smiled at you. he always had that pretty smile of his, and you often fell for his charming and handsome looks. his purple-blue navy hair that he would rarely ever let you touch, and he would always hold your hand whenever you got too scared. truth be told, perhaps you may have fallen for him.
oh but if your father and mother knew...
"well, i suppose you can play with me if you really were that bored~" scaramouche said, grabbing your hand and pulling you up a stump. you landed on your feet as he hugged you close. he patted your head. "im sure you'd love to explore snezhnaya right?"
you grumbled and stared up the mountain again. the higher you climbed, the more the snowflakes were cutting against your skin, yet the cut wasn't too deep, and your hydro-anemo vision granted you the joys of healing, so you were alright. "my dad says i shouldn't spend too much time with a harbinger..."
"oh and he's absolutely right," scaramouche said. he placed his hands on your shoulder as he brought his face close to your ear. "after all, the beast mountains are far too dangerous for a little girl like you, maybe we should turn back."
you whipped your head over to look at him. well, even he was looking down at you? your mother and father did that enough, since they were definitely way stronger than you were, and they never allowed you on their battles, not even your mother, who was always soft and gentle and kind.
you didn't want a harbinger like scaramouche to be looking down on you like your beautiful mother did. you grabbed his arm and scowled at him. "i'm 12! i'm pretty sure i can't deal with whatevers up there!"
"so you don't want to turn back?" he asked with a crooked smile. he tipped his big hat and winked at you as he continued to ascend the mountain. "well then, let's get up there."

"i looked everywhere for her! i can't find her xiao! i can't find our baby girl..." ganyu sobbed, holding onto her husband's hand. she gripped it tightly as xiao looked around jueyun karst, hundreds of miles of green and just general monsters were what he could see, and even though he and ganyu searched the whole land of liyue, they couldn't find their daughter.
cloud retainer flew down to land next to ganyu as she shook her long neck side to side. "one has not seen the young y/n."
ganyu leaped into her husbands' chest and began to sob even harder. xiao hugged her with one hand as he suddenly thought of what you had said to him before he had left for his work;
"i guess since you don't care about me i will play by myself in the snowy mountains."
that was what you had said, and he quickly turned his head towards the direction of snezhnaya far end in the north. he gripped ganyu's shoulders and pulled her back, just to stare into her teary eyes. "alright, honey, listen to me, bring in your bow and arrows, we're taking a trip to snezhnaya."
cloud retainer flapped her wings as she yelped. "one dares venture into snezhnaya alone? what might your dear daughter be thinking?!"
xiao sighed and gripped onto his polearm tightly. "for now, i am hoping its not to do anything stupid."

..
"annnnnd here we are!" scaramouche yelled, spreading his hands out. you weren't really sure where 'here' was, since there were just endless amounts of scary looking trees, weird contraptions with electro and cryo emitting from the top, as well as a few red cracks in the ground.
you tugged onto his sleeve as you slightly came closer to him, trying to look around for any means of sunlight; as this place was completely dark. "uh scaramouche, where are we exactly?"
scaramouche turned to you and gave you the most sickening smile you ever saw him give. you felt the ground tremble beneath you, and instantly you fell backwards, landing on your back. the ground cracked beneath your fingers and you quickly gripped onto the nearby rock before the ground below you caved in, revealing the reddest, and hottest lava you had ever seen.
what the hell...?
"s-scaramouche?!"
he laughed, dangerously. he swung his arm and in flew in a few dark clouds that started to swirl above the mountain, striking down directly onto every platform it had. scaramouche cackled as the thunder struck down everywhere. "AHAHAHAHAH... YOU WANTED TO SEE BEAST MOUNTAIN DIDNT YOU? BEHOLD..."
the ground shook; rocking you back and fourth. you swung your arm over and created a small cryo protective bubble around you, jumping over to wherever was safe enough for you. you landed onto the snow, but then pulled your hand away.
the snow was hot.
scaramouche cackled and flew upwards, hanging in mid-air, and he started to cast a few words of inaudible mumblings to you. you were scared, and the hailstorm was starting to cut you more than usual, slicing every bit of skin you had exposed. suddenly, your feet stung, and you looked down to see the snow melting into the ground.
oh my god, acid snow.
you leaped up onto the burning trees, hoping to at least gain a bit of leverage. you frosted the tree and coated it in snow to cool it down enough for you to climb on the top, dangling on the branch. scaramouche started making scary gestures, and from the bottom of the lava hole, emerged the biggest beast you had ever seen.
no it wasn't like in liyue; no it wasn't like the ones in fontaine either- this beast was huge, maybe ten- or twenty small eyes on its faceless head; there was no doubt about it, it looked like the biggest eight legged creature you had ever seen. the hairy legs brushed over the mountains, and the rocks started to rain down. disgusting. absolutely disgusting-
the beast screeched, and instantly, your glass necklace cracked and broke under the high frequency, cutting your neck in the process. you needed to move, quick, before the rocks came to crush you. you jumped over to the other trees, narrowly missing the rock that was about to rain down to crush you.
"WASNT THIS WHAT YOU WANTED Y/N?!"
you hid your face into your arms as your hair flew around in the violent wind. it was fire, cryo, and electro altogether, and...
anemo?
"y/n!" the familiar sound of the adeptus being rang in your ears. you picked your head up, and as tears streamed down your red and bloody cheeks, you saw the familiar figure of your father. he flew down, and avoided being hit by the rock, grabbed your body and transported himself towards the other side of the mountain where the acid snow started to melt everything that touched it.
he landed on the edges of the mountain and placed you down. "DAD...!"
"are you okay?"
you hugged him and he hugged you back, relieved to see his daughter again. but that moment didn't last long.
just after you let go, the mountain shook, and xiao fell over. you screamed, but he managed to get ahold of himself and stepped over to the other parts of the mountain, avoiding the acidic snow at all cost. you watched him closely as the rocks rained down, trying their best to crush him under all the rubble.
you looked up towards the spider beast, which started to breathe out tremendous amounts of fire. you saw xiao, creating whirlpools of wind and tornados to cast the fire away from himself and his daughter. you felt a pair of arms around you and turned your head to see your mother.
"y/n my darling!" she hugged you. "thank goodness you're safe!"
you hugged her as she turned to look at where her husband was. she widened her eyes as she saw xiao being distracted by the beasts' legs while a rock was coming down on him. she pushed you to the side as she got out her bow and arrow, immediately shooting an arrow straight towards the rock, blasting it into small pieces so it wouldn't crush her husband.
xiao noticed and picked his head up to see ganyu with you. ganyu cupped her hands around her mouth and started to yell, tears in her eyes. "XIAO, WE GOT HER! LETS JUST GO!"
"YOU GET HER OUT FIRST, I'LL BE RIGHT BEHI- AHH!"
"XIAO!"
"DAD!"
the beasts' leg slammed xiao down, and straight into the acid snow. you couldn't see him under all the rubble, and your mother refused to let you go from her arms, and as scaramouche laughed from the distance, you picked your head up to see the spider beast screeching and screaming out, and you had to cover your ears.
ganyu held you tight as the rocks stopped raining, and the lava below started to slow down. the snow started to fall normally, and scaramouche turned to look towards you both. he smiled to himself. "tch, not so powerful now hm?"

you and ganyu waited until the ground was settled and calm before you two made your way down to look for xiao. ganyu looked over the other sides where he had fallen, and you ran over to the piles of snow where you believed he was buried under.
"xiaooooo!" ganyu yelled, her voice shaking tremendously. you knew your mother loved your father very much, and she never wanted to part with him. although you were hurt too, you couldn't imagine how it must have been like for your mother. "xiao where are you?!"
you dug around the piles of snow and cried out your fathers' name. you dug around as much as you could, and finally, in the corner of your eye, you caught a glimpse of xiao's hand. you gasped and quickly dove in to dig away the snow, and under all the white and fluffy snow, laid your father.
"dad? dad?" you nudged him slightly, but he didn't move, nor did he budge. you grabbed his arm and pulled on it, slowly dragging him out of the buried snow.
you saw his pale white face, and his stiff body filled with cuts and bruises. you knew your father was an adeptus, so he couldn't have- he should be able to live long. you shook him again and again, trying your best to wake him up. you just wanted him to wake up.
"dad...?"
you called out to him, but he just wouldn't respond to you. you sniffled and cried, not even being able to call out to your mother, you ducked your head down and went to stuff yourself in between xiao's arm so it seemed like he had his arm over you protectively.
you cried into your hands as you fit into his embrace that you had made. you sobbed quietly as you tried to register the fact that none of this would have happened if you had just stayed put at home.
"you poor thing..."
you picked your head up to see scaramouche standing over you both, and you quickly sat up to wipe away your tears. you weren't sure why he had to unleash dangers upon you or your father, you just knew that he probably did this on purpose.
"why... why did you... decide to do that?"
"why pin the blame on me sweetheart?" he asked, smiling slightly. his dark purple eyes glazed and glowed under the darkness. "if you were strong enough, you probably wouldn't have gotten your dad killed. look what you've done."
you were so caught on grief that you believed that it was your fault. your mind was in a battlefield with itself, and you couldn't stop crying. you needed your comfort, and you couldn't find your mother anywhere anymore. looking around didn't help, since there were no lights.
"i.. i didn't mean to..."
"maybe if you hadn't come with me, and turned back like i specifically told you to, this all wouldn't have happened."
"i..."
"this was your fault. your fault your father is dead. how disgraceful, how could you betray your own adeptal blood like this?"
you cried even more. it felt like your father was scolding you himself; the pain was too much to bear, knowing that you had killed your father by your own hands. you started to tremble, and the cuts from previously were starting to sting and burn your arms. scaramouche bent down to hug you, and you unknowingly hugged him back.
you just needed to hug someone.
he patted your back. "i know sweetie i know, you didn't mean to. but it was your fault."
you sniffled and cried. "w-what should i do..?" you pulled away and looked into his eyes. he smiled down at you, and he clouded his eyes with a heavy feel of empathy.
he leaned his head down to your ear, and whispered quietly. "leave liyue, y/n. never return back; never let the people know what you have done. run. eyes forward; never look back."
you widened your eyes at him. "b-but that's my home..."
"you think they'd forgive you for killing off the one and only adeptus xiao? you didn't just lose a father y/n, your mother lost a husband; a loved one. you took that away from her, your dear dear mother..." he said sadly, patting your trembling shoulder. "the least you could do is leave her, give her time to cope, and never show your face again. how could your poor mother ever look at you again? the girl who killed her own father."
you wiped your tears and took one last look at your father. you leaned down to kiss his cold cheek before mumbling an apology. you took scaramouche's hand slowly and rose from your spot, looking up at him. he gave you a sly smile, and huffed.
you sighed, trying to stop the tears. "w-where should i go...?"
"anywhere, as long as you never set foot close to liyue."
you started to make your way down the mountain, and you turned back around to see scaramouche. he shook his hands. "no looking back."
once you were out of eyesight, he turned his body around to walk towards ganyu, who was knocked out onto the snow by him before she got to you; ganyu heard everything he had told you, and she gritted her teeth as she struggled to shuffle towards her husband.
"y-you bastard... telling her such lies..."
scaramouche laughed and brought his foot down to step right onto ganyu's back, pushing her deeper into the snow. "hahaha... you'll never, ever, see your precious daughter again. i'll hunt her down, and kill her myself."
"n-no! kill me instead... just let her be..." ganyu screamed. scaramouche dug his foot deeper into her back as she screamed.
"oh don't worry, i shall kill you too," he smirked.
"long live the adeptus bloodline~"
