the dinner table was filled to the brim and edge with juicy looking delicacies. i would say it was perfect but, the atmosphere in here wasn't as perfect as the perfectly steamed lobsters; the creamy crab stews, the perfectly stacked meat and fresh apple pies- god everything was just delicious, but the atmosphere was just... terrible.
i wasn't sure why albedo didn't really enjoy the idea of having dinner with me, kaeya, diluc, barbara and jean; we were celebrating his success in creating a new potion, yet he hasn't smiled the whole time we got him here. or in his case; i brought him here. he didn't smile, and he sure as hell didn't laugh at kaeya's jokes either.
sara bowed and took her leave back to her counter while we all sat in silence. i looked over towards jean, who was also a little awkward. she cleared her throat thankfully and started to speak, holding her spoon. "albedo sir i would just like to really thank you for coming up with another one of your brilliant inventions."
i picked up the glass and stared at it.

i took a sip while albedo nodded his head, picking up his knife and fork before cutting into the steak on his plate. "the pleasure is mine."
his tone was steady and firm; not like how it usually was. i had spent so much time with albedo these days that i realised that he only ever spoke firmly when he was upset or bored. i felt bad, maybe he didn't like having dinner with all of us; or maybe he was feeling sick. i didn't really know why he didn't enjoy the happy scenery around the area with many people hanging around, maybe he was just tired.
diluc took a bite of the roasted crab and looked over at barbara, who was poking around her mashed potatos. "got a problem there?"
barbara looked up and chuckled nervously, shocked at how she was noticed. she shook her head as she turned her head towards albedo. "i... i am just wondering why you aren't looking too happy..."
i mean you didn't have to bring it up.
albedo shut his eyes and placed down his knife and fork. he let out a sigh and then opened his eyes again. in a split second, he spared a glance towards me, and i caught a wording from his gaze. he was unhappy, but unhappy about what? what on earth could he be unhappy about? was it the fact that we were taking time away from his experiments? would he rather be back in his lab?
"it's just a tiring day, that's all," he nodded towards barbara just to brush off reassurance towards her. barbara sighed in slight relief as she tipped her glass to albedo, and he smiled to her in return. it was a forced smile, i could tell, the type of smile you don't want to give someone but you just have to give so you wouldn't seem rude.
"thats a good thing then~" barbara smiled.
kaeya then wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him slightly. i chuckled as he blew onto my face but brushed the hair that he had blown out of my eyes while he smirked towards albedo. "well 'bedo, you have been working hard, and y/n here decided that you should have some ya know, freedom."
i didn't notice it before, but the moment kaeya started speaking, albedo's gaze just fell. his eyes became more sharp; and his posture stiffened. i didn't know why, but i assumed it was because albedo knew where kaeya was from; and that he didn't really trust kaeya that much.
wait, was kaeya the reason why he was so unhappy?
albedo smiled. his smile was insincere, and he went back to slicing the meat; but this time, his knife cut straight through instead of a few cuts. he managed to slice all his meat in one swift go, and his grip seemed to have hardened every single second. "well, y/n certainly is a party planner."
kaeya smiled and gave my head a pat. "she sure is, wouldn't you agree." he then nudged diluc, and the red haired man chuckled before taking a bite of the lobster.
"sure. why not."
"i dare say that kaeya speaks very fondly of y/n," jean pointed out. right after she said that, the table jerked, as if someone had kicked it from the bottom with their feet. we looked around to see who did that, but everyone looked just as confused.
"uh, is everyone okay?" barbara asked, taking a very hard look towards albedo, as if she knew that he was the one who kicked the table from below. albedo looked at me for a second before turning his gaze towards barbara and shook his head before standing up.
"my apologies, i think i might need to leave," he said, picking up the napkin to wipe off his mouth. i wasn't sure why he did that though, he barely even touched his food.
jean gave a worried look. "albedo, sir, are you sure? do you not like the food?"
"no no its not because of the food," albedo shook his hands dismissively. kaeya then pulled me closer a little to whisper that albedo was acting stranger than usual into my ear. i giggled quietly by how his breath was tickling my ear and right after that, albedo slammed both his hands down on the table, startling almost everyone.
"if there is something to be said, how about you share it so the whole table can hear?"
barbara grabbed onto jean in fear as jean slightly sweated from the sudden coldness from albedo. i blinked away the fright as kaeya backed away from me slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. he kept his smile. "well, it wasn't anything too serious-"
"if you have nothing to hide, why don't you say it?"
my heart was beating a little fast, as albedo never acted like this. this was rare of him; when he got frustrated. he never got frustrated, even if i was always bothering him. i couldn't really look at him without being scared, but something about the way his dirty blonde hair fell into his quiet beautiful eyes made me feel safer, yet he made me feel so worried for him.
kaeya didn't really know how to respond, and albedo must have realised he lost his posture and cool, because he removed his hands from the table and cleared his throat. he placed a hand on his head as he shook his head slightly. "ah... my.. apologies i'm.. i'm probably just too tired."
diluc stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder. "maybe you should return to your chambers."
"there is work to be done, master diluc, i simply cannot-"
"your health is more important right now, take this as an order from the acting grand master and return to your chambers to rest." jean said firmly before she sighed. "take care of yourself first, alright?"
albedo nodded before apologising to us once more before he started to walk back to his chambers. once he was out of eyesight, diluc immediately gave kaeya a swift punch to his shoulder, which prompted him to fall off his chair a little.
kaeya looked up at his brother with a scowl. "what the hell was that for?"
diluc placed a hand on my shoulder before he pinched the bridge of his brows. i looked towards kaeya who adjusted his clothes and sighed. diluc then spoke. "don't think i don't know you deliberately just wanted to make albedo angry by being so close with y/n."
"what do you even mean by that."
"if you haven't realised, albedo likes y/n." diluc said openly, which prompted blush to creep up all over my face. jean and barbara chuckled to each other while kaeya sighed and shook his head.
"well is it my fault he doesn't like me being close to y/n?"
"it is when you deliberately do it when you know it."
"this is just you hating on me."
"got a problem with that?"
kaeya gritted his teeth, but then smiled again. he brushed off the angry fumes from his brother and placed an arm on the back of his chair before picking up his wine glass. "no matter, y/n will make him feel better if she spoke with him won't you y/n?"
i blushed even harder and stared down at my boots while diluc sighed. "i think you should go speak to him," he then bent down to whisper into my ear. "i'm worried albedo might make an explosive potion to kill my brother..."
"hey! why can you whisper in y/n's ear and i can't?"
"you do realise that albedo isn't here right? and besides, i was talking about you."
"you little-"

"albedo?"
there was silence in his house. i shut the front door and placed the key on top of the table so he could find it tomorrow. he usually kept his spare key under his door mat, and no matter how many times i warned him not to, he still didn't really get the memo. i looked over at all his equipments and potions; all the weird apparatuses and potion spell books.
the working benches were filled with his every paper, all written in neat and tidy handwritings. i pushed open the small door in the corner of the wall and gasped as i saw the ceiling decorated in beautiful shining stars and small orbs of cryo, geo, anemo, and all the other elements. the room was slightly lower in temperature, and the stars shone and twinkled with every blink i took.
i moved my eyes down to albedo, who was sitting in the armchair in the corner of the small room, next to the fire. i was surprised to see him here to say the least, since i thought he would be upstairs sleeping. i smiled warmly as he found my eyes in the beautiful warm lights from the orbs and stars.
i shut the door and walked over to him, sitting down on the armrest of the chair as i leaned onto the leather. "i thought you'd be going to sleep."
"i'm still working on something." he said. i moved my eyes down to see that he had a small glass orb with green leaves inside of it, glowing a bright green glow. his hands were moving around the orb, slightly working alchemy magic to make it grow brighter. "its almost done."
i looked up at the ceiling and realised that there was a missing element from the seven; dendro. i then looked back down at the green orb, and smiled when i realised he was making a dendro orb. "are you making the seven elements?"
"mmh."
"whatever for?"
he then let go of the orb, and it slowly rose up into the ceiling. it clicked in between the other open spaces with the other orbs and shone a calm gentle green light. he sighed and leaned himself back against the leather. "its... for you."
i blushed. "me?"
"you always felt a little sad that you didn't have a vision, and when i asked you which vision you wished to have, you said you wanted all of them so... i don't have the power to give you a vision, much less all of them so... this is all i could do for you."
his words warmed the cold shield around my heart, and the flames that prickles in the fireplace made the whole atmosphere ever the warmer. i slowly slid down onto his lap, and he welcomed me by wrapping his arms around my waist. i placed my hands on his shoulders as he looked up into my eyes, slightly confused.
he wasn't sure what i was doing, and i understood. he couldn't really understand simple human actions; but i didn't blame him. at least he was learning. "were you.. upset at kaeya earlier?"
"mayhaps. i am not sure why, but i did not feel comfortable at that moment."
i laughed a little before leaning against him. "you were jealous."
he blinked. "what does that mean?"
i moved my face closer to his and stroked his cheek a little. "its a feeling of being upset or a little angry when someone has something that you don't."
"but.. don't i have you right now?"
"now yes. earlier no."
"i... i'm afraid i'm confused..." he stuttered slightly, coming closer. "i'm sorry i can't understand."
i hugged him close. "its alright. take your time, you'll understand soon."
his hug around my waist slightly tightened as he pressed his head against my chest, listening to my heartbeat. he slowly slid one of his hand up my back and towards my hair, slightly ruffling it. "could we perhaps stay like this? just for a moment."
"no problem albedo. no problem."
"thank you, y/n."
