To say these last few days had been total hell, would've been a drastic understatement, Jane decided glaring at the giant, robot like guards manning her door. Ever since she'd been released from the hospital - well, more like banned - her stupid mate had given her a security detail.

A friggin security detail!

To keep her from getting into anymore unnecessary "trouble" treating her as though she was going out there and asking Ronan to come and kill her. She couldn't even go and crowbar Levi's car like she'd planned to because the guards assigned to her twenty-four seven wouldn't let her leave her dorm for anything other than school or work. She wasn't even allowed to visit Elle or Nate who was still recovering in the hospital.

And she really needed to see him to, not only to make sure he was okay but to find out what he was doing at a frat party full of hunters so far away. And he was alone! But the stupid doctors put both she and Elle on a temporary ban list after they erased and stole all of Jane's files. The lengths she was willing to go to keep Levi from finding out her name was frightening.

She did not want to give him that satisfaction of rejecting her!

If anything she's going to reject him, when she's good and ready and finished making him lose his mind to the insanity she was going to inflict.

Hearing a loud knock on the door she sighed in relief and couldn't help but laugh to the point of tears when she saw Elle. Crammed in the tightly spaced hallway between four of the packs guards, Elle was wearing a look that could kill even the devil. Elle pushed past the men and slammed the door behind her as she growled, "I'm so mad at that asshole!"

"Which one?" Jane asked not sure if Elle was referring to Mike or Levi as both were equally stupid and annoying, maybe it runs in the family?

"Both!" Elle shouted beginning to pace, the short length of the dorm, "How could they treat us like this? We're not two years old we don't need babysitters!"

Jane nodded in agreement searching through the mini-fridge, Cassie had hauled in here she yelled over her shoulder, "Do you want a water? I don't think there's much else in here."

Turning around she saw Elle frown, before her best friend stormed over to her and whispered, "You know I didn't force those lap dogs out there to take me to you so I could just sit here and drink water! No friggin way! You and I are going to Miranda Astons party tonight. It's her twenty-first so I practically guarantee tequila- oh how I miss tequila."

Lowering her voice, Jane spared a quick glance at the door to make sure the guards haven't heard anything crazy that just flew out of Elle's mouth, "Are you out of your mind?! Not only will Mike and Levi ¬kill us. But we have a pact. No more drinking."

Elle folded her arms, "Oh you mean the pact that you broke? Come on Janie, we're nineteen we need to live it up. I know that the accident was... well hell it was scary and we were lucky I don't want to test our luck again. So we won't ever drive drunk, but why not get drunk?"

She wanted to be reminding Elle of just how really lucky they were to escape with their lives, but as always Elle was right. They're just a pair of nineteen year old girls who had a scary accident that shouldn't dictate their whole lives. They were in college for crying out loud, everyone does reckless things in college.

"Okay. One drink."

Elle's smile lit up her entire face and Jane didn't even feel worried about what she'd just agreed to. Elle was such a bubbly, happy person that seeing her this depressed was kind of making Jane feel a little desperate in a way to get her friend back on track.

"Hold on though," she grabbed onto Elle's arm, "Promise me there will be no... makeovers. None. Promise!"

Elle pouted, "Please, Janie."

"No!"

"But you'd look so pretty if you just let me-"

"Ariella," Jane folded her arms and gave her friend a pointed a look, "No makeovers."

Elle huffed, "Fine. No makeovers - you know you're such a buzz kill sometimes."

"Uh huh, sure. Now how we gonna get rid of the secret service manning my door?"

The smile that lit up Elle's face was terrifying. If Jane had been the security detail on the other side of that door she'd be running for the hills, Elle had the brain of an evil mastermind.

"You can just leave that to me," Elle muttered before she walked over to a backpack Jane hadn't even realized she'd brought. She watched as Elle pulled out a couple of cute dresses, heels and endless piles of makeup and hair products that made Jane cringe, "Who are you Mary Poppins?"

"Just go turn the TV up so they can't hear what I'm doing."

After finding the remote and turning it up impossibly loud, she turned back to see that Elle had also pulled out a lot of questionable items out of her bag like duck-tape, rope and a couple of other things that made Jane wonder how well she really knew Elle.

"Are you planning on abducting anyone tonight?" Jane asked, frowning at the zip ties and the uncomfortable memory they brought.

Elle shook her head, "Nah. But you can't take down four guards without a few provisions."

Sometimes her best friend truly did scare her.

***

On the way to Miranda's party Jane kept a good distance away from Elle who she'd decided was a secret ninja of some sorts. Managing to take out four well trained guards and tie them up that was impressively terrifying. She knew she never wanted to get on Elle's side but now she definitely didn't want to get on Elle's bad side.

Not after what she just saw.

"Are you still scared about what you just saw me do?" Elle asked from in front of her, leading the way.

"You say you learnt all that from scouts?"

"The knot tying yes. And technically my dad learnt it from scouts he just showed me how to do it. The whole ass kicking thing, well I was just born knowing how to do that."

Jane rolled her eyes, "Right. And if the FBI come and ask me where you've been hiding all these years I won't rat you out as long as you promise to keep me alive."

Elle laughed, "You should be more worried about Mike and Levi. They've probably called the FBI to find us. Maybe SWAT to."

Forgetting that her best friend was most probably some type of secret assassin, Jane hurried up to her as the bright lights and loud music coming from the house down the block poured out onto the streets.

It felt good to be going out again and having fun, she didn't really get a chance to fully enjoy the last party she was at. Considering one of her friends was breaking up with their boyfriend; her other friend was dying and she was having to bargain her freedom with a hunter through beer pong. Yeah, fun.

But already as she and Elle were walking through the front door and submerging themselves in the party atmosphere she could feel all her drama melting away. No more worrying about her crazy werewolf problems, tonight she would act human and dance and drink her problems into oblivion.

Elle dragged her through the crowd and was shrieking in excitement when Elle held up a bottle of tequila and handed Jane a red solo cup before pouring shot sized portions in each cup.

"To forgetting about those stupid assholes we call mates!" Elle shouted above the music before both girls downed their drinks.

The strong buzz ran through Jane and hit her like a freight train. The beer she'd had the other day didn't compare to the first taste of tequila she'd had in God knows how long.

But she'd missed the warmth that settled through her, the way her body began to feel lighter as though her problems were being melted away by the burning liquor. She couldn't help but ask Elle for another shot. And then another. And then another.

When she put down the empty cup again she swayed slightly as she heard Elle let out a loud giggle, "You ready to dance Janie?"

"Lead the way."

Oh God did she miss this!

Just being with her best friend and putting life on hold while she lost herself to the rhythm of the music and the energy amplifying alcohol that was swimming in her veins. She missed being so young and free and she didn't realize how much stress she'd truly been under until she found she had forgotten what she'd been worried about. She needed to stop being so uptight all the time.

Tipping her head back she swayed her hips to the beat of the music as Arianna Grande's lyrics filled her up. Reminding her how good it felt to not just be alive but to live and right when the chorus was going to start up again she felt a firm grip on her shoulder.

She knew it wasn't Levi because she didn't feel anything from the skin to skin contact, but she wasn't too happy to see that it was Mike either.

"What the hell are you two doing here? Where are you guards?"

Elle shrugged off his hand and continued to move to the beat of the music, "They're a bit tied up at the moment, but I'll tell them you were asking about them."

"Oh no, are you two drunk?!" Mike shouted over the music and Jane decided to ignore him as well. Reaching for her best friend as they tried to move away from Mike but he was irritatingly relentless.

"Levi is going to kill me and I'm going to kill both of you. You two shouldn't be out here by yourselves its dangerous. You should be at home with the security detail we appointed for you- both of you."

"I don't even understand why you care Mike?"

"Don't be stupid Elle, I love you. You know that. Now I'm asking you to please take Janie and go home. Stay out of trouble. I don't want to see either of you two getting hurt."

Elle turned around and glared at Mike, stopping the two girls from advancing any further.

"What are you talking about Mike? How would we get hurt?" Elle's words stunned her mate into silence and her voice started to crack with hysteria, "Why are you here Mike?"

"I-I..." he trailed off and ran a hand through his hair, "Elle. Baby-"

"Don't." Elle barked with tears starting to form, "Just don't mike. Come on Janie."

Jane spared Mike a disappointed look before she ran after Elle who was stumbling her way out of the house, both of their good moods effectively ruined. Although both girls were still rather tipsy as they wobbled in their heels along the footpath.

It didn't take too long for Mike to jump in his car and slowly drive beside them, begging them to get in the car so he could take them home safely. And he was getting pretty desperate too, offering to take them out on all expenses paid spa days and shopping sprees.

The last little bribe had Elle stopping in her tracks and Jane crashing into the back of her.

"You'll buy my anything I want?" Elle questioned, wanting to make sure she didn't get cheated out of this deal that sounded almost too good to be true.

"Yes, baby, anything you want! Just get in the car and I promise you can take me to any store you want and I'll buy you anything - you to Janie."

Elle seemed to consider it for a moment before she made a beeline for the park that was beside them and with a curse, Mike jumped out of the car and ran after her. Jane contemplated following the crazy pair, but she not only didn't want to third wheel and listen in on their relationship problems. But she knew she couldn't run in heels and her face already looked beat up enough from her encounter with Ronan.

"You know I never can wonder what such a pretty girl like you, is always left so alone and vulnerable."

Speak of the devil...

"Ronan," Jane turned around and came face to face with the hunter she'd hoped she would never have to encounter again.

"The one and only sweetheart," he chuckled shooting her a sickening grin, "You know you got off easy last time. Tricking me into letting you and your friend go free... looks like Levi got himself a smart one."

Her heart was pounding in her chest and through her drunken haze she'd wished she'd worn shoes she could at least run in.

"I don't think I can let you off so easy this time," Ronan sighed, "Such a shame, really because you're so pretty."

She started screaming as loud as her lungs would allow her, but Ronan cut her off by slapping his hand against her mouth and as she turned to run, he moved his grip down to her arm keeping her from running. So she screamed out again, hoping that Mike and Elle weren't that far that they couldn't hear her.

"Such a shame indeed..." Ronan muttered to himself before Jane felt the cold slash of metal against the back of her neck and chilling blood drip down her neck before she felt her legs give way and she fell forward. Covering her face as she fell down onto the pavement.

"Janie!" She heard Elle yell and she watched Ronan crack an evil smile before he ran into the shadows.

Suddenly, Elle was in front of her with Mike, both of them looking worried as they questioned her, "What happened?"

"Janie," Elle asked through her tears, "Janie. Talk to me."

"I-I..." Jane trailed off as she felt consciousness fading, "I can't feel my legs."
