"My your really good at drawing. Tell me what was your home like?" Gabriel flicked his ear at the questioned as his tail swayed a little.
"Home? Me and Dream didn't have a home. All the villagers had one. We lived under a tree never had one." Nightmare blinked as he looked up at Gabriel.
He didn't find it odd that he and his brother lived under a tree their whole lives. Especially since that tree had their mothers soul in it and they had no where else to go.
"Wait you two didn't have a roof over your heads? This village your from weren't they nice to you and your brother? Didn't they care?" Gabriel frowned a little as his ears flattened at the idea of two children being not only orphaned but neglected by an entire village.
Just the idea of seeing two children growing up with only the protection of a tree for shelter broke his heart. If it was him he would've given them a room to stay in or even build a small house for the two to live in so they could have shelter from the rain.
Just mentioning if the village cared seemed to make Nightmare nervous. Nightmare frowned and rubbed his hands together and looked down. "Sh-Should I be honest? Like c-completely honest?" He then nervously looked back at the feline.
"Yes. I would prefer it if you spoke the truth to me. You have no reason to be scared. I know you might be scared but you don't have to lie to me. You can trust me." Gabriel gave a soft smile as his ears completely flattened onto his skull.
He leaned over his desk and held a hand out to Nightmare. "If you'd like you can even hold my hand and squeeze it as tightly as you can if your scared to talk." He tried to reassure Nightmare. Understanding that he might be a little terrified to talk.
Nightmare nervously swallowed and shakily grabbed Gabriel's hand with both of his own. He could lie to him and not tell him the truth, but Dream will most likely tell the truth about their home, village, and maybe the people from there.
So there's no point in lying. Especially since his brother would tell the truth. He might as well tell his half of the story. Squeezing the monsters paw he thought about what to say.
"Y-You see... they only cared about my brother...they were only nice to Dream. For many of their own different reasons... they weren't nice to me at all... the only nice monster was this elder turtle monster who would bring me a new book to read whenever he was able to leave his home... he couldn't leave his home often because he had a knee problem." Nightmare looked down and slightly smiled as he thought about the old turtle.
Gabriel nodded slowly and thought. He had a small smile since it was nice to know that at least someone was nice to Nightmare. "I see... did those mounters... do anything to you?"
"The villagers... they would... well... they were all so mean to me! It wasn't fair at all! It was never fair!" Nightmare shook a little as a few tears formed in the corners of his sockets.
Gabriel rubbed his thumb on the back of Nightmare's hand. "It's alright. Your okay. Your safe. Just take a few deep breaths Nightmare." He softly hummed. Wanting to calm the kid down a little.
Nightmare took a quick deep breath before continuing. "They were always calling me names, throwing things at me from rotten or ripe food, rocks, paper, books, whatever they could get their hands on they would throw at me. Tell me that I shouldn't be around. That I should die. And... and." Nightmare shook more as he wiped a few tears away with his sleeve. There were other things that the villagers did to him but he couldn't form the words.
