"Your companion begs an apology, Doctor, Lilly

"Your companion begs an apology, Doctor, Lilly. Her clothing has somewhat delayed her." Who'd I'd recently learned was named Father Angelo, informed us politely.

Although it did sound like Rose, I didn't believe him. The Doctor, at least, pretend to and nodded. "Oh, that's all right. Save her a wee bit of ham."

"The feral child could probably eat it raw." Victoria commented.

I bit my lip to stop a laugh escaping them, however, Captain Reynolds didn't bother. "Very wise, Ma'am. Very witty!" He chuckled.

The Queen stared at him appraisingly. "Slightly witty, perhaps. I know you rarely get the chance to dine with me, Captain, but don't get too excited. I shall contain my wit in case I do you further injury."

"Yes, Ma'am. Sorry, Ma'am." He looked down at his food, embarrassed.

I jumped slightly at another pain in my stomach, but this time it was continuous, making me have to cling on to my boyfriend under the table until it passed. The Time Lord took my hand off his knee, where I had been squeezing - putting it in his own. "Are you ok?" He murmured softly.

I nodded. "What happened to the story, Sir Robert? You promised us a tale of nightmares." Trying to turn the subject away from me, I looked to the host.

"Indeed." Victoria agreed. "Since my husband's death, I find myself with more of a taste for supernatural fiction."

"I'm so sorry for your loss. You must miss him." I said sadly.

"Very much. Oh, completely. And that's the charm of a ghost story, isn't it? Not the scares and chills, that's just for children, and but the... hope of some contact with the great beyond. What you want some message from that place... it's the Creator's greatest mystery that we are allowed no such consolation. The dead stay silent. And we must wait." That wasn't the case for me, though. Jack told me his experiences of death, and I wish I didn't know. I felt my boyfriend give my hand another squeeze, but it wasn't for me this time. The look on his face told me everything I needed to know; the Time Lord was remembering his own family on Gallifrey. "Come! Begin your tale, Sir Robert. There's a chill in the air. The wind is howling through the eaves. Tell us of monsters!"

"This story goes back 300 years. Every full moon, the howling rings through the valley. The next morning, livestock is found ripped apart and...devoured." Sir Robert began, grave look resting on his face.

"Tales like this just disguise the works of thieves. Steal a sheep and blame a wolf, simple as that." Captain Reynolds chuckled comfortably. At least one of us was having fun. The Queen gave him an irritated glare as the host continued.
