Tiny sobs came from outside the door as Dr Mace did his daily check-up on his patient Xeva Deelo. The quiet room was filled with the steady beeping of the patients monitor when suddenly, the door burst open to reveal a frantic, tired looking nurse. The nurse ran the official analysis through the doctor again.

"The symptoms that show are simple, doctor! She has leukemia and it's bad. We can't do much about it no-" The monitor next to Xeva began to beep rapidly. The doctor immediately grabbed an oxygen mask and put it on Xevas mouth.

"Get me back-up! We're losing her!" The doctor ordered. The nurse ran into a separate room. Not a second later more people filled the room and rushed to save the woman's life.

"Please...please...come on..." The doctor mumbled. He was very much aware of the little girl and her father waiting outside in tears. The hardest part of this job is telling the family the bad news. He didn't want to be the one to tell them. He didn't want to tell them at all. He barely paid attention to the other medical professionals shuffling around the room whilst shouting commands to one another.

"Doctor, let her family speak to her." The nurse spoke gently as she bowed her head in silence. He slowly nodded, disgusted with himself as he couldn't save the poor little girl's mother. Not a moment later, a well-built man and a beautiful young girl walked in. The man had a certain glint in his eyes showing the pain of losing the one he loves and the little girl had red eyes and tear streaks down her face. Her black hair was in braids with little pink ribbons. She had a beautiful purple streak running from the top of her scalp down to her tips. She was supposedly born with it. Her usually playful yet intimidating grey eyes now shone with fear and sadness. She walked up to her mother's side whilst eyeing all the doctors around. As she examined everyone's faces, her's fell. She sure was observant for a six-year-old.

"Mommy no! You promised me you would fight! You promised!" She wailed. She held her mother's hand as she sobbed. Xeva looked at her husband to find him internally breaking down at the sight of his little girl holding his dying wife's hands.

"Baby girl, I did fight. I really did. In fact, I still am. But my best isn't enough." That only made her cry harder. They held each other in silence for a while. Listening to the now unsteady pattern of the monitor beeping and the silent, disappointed sigh of the people around the room. "Can you promise me something?" Xeva suddenly asked.

"Why should I? You didn't keep yours." She spat out. She knew it was rather harsh but she couldn't help it. This little girl felt absolutely betrayed by her mother. She admired her with every bit of her small being. She knew her mother was strong and she was absolutely certain that whatever the world could throw at her, she'd prevail. But when she found out that her mother just lost the ultimate battle of life and death, she couldn't help but feel a little piece of her heart tear away. Xeva chuckled a little before doing a sharp intake of breath as she was still dying.

"Because little one, I know that you'd still do it. You are the kindest little girl in the world and I know you'll grow up to be a gorgeous, intelligent, strong and kind woman." Her mother smiled. The little girl sighed.

"Maybe, but you won't be there to watch me." Her mother's smile faltered slightly as she reached near the bed and grabbed a purple box with grey ribbons tied around it.

"Here baby, it's part of the promise." She winked. The girl took it and opened it up to find a small trinket paired with some kind-of plastic thingy.

"What's this?" She questioned.

"This is called a bey. It's for the sport that daddy bases his dojo around. This one is yours. Daddy will teach you all about how to use it." Xeva's father nodded grimly, trying his hardest not to let a single tear slip in front of his young daughter.

"Why would I need a bey?"

"Because you have more potential than anyone else to resonate with a bey. She will help you through tough times and keep you strong. She is your partner and you are hers. You can talk to her." Her mother then took a breath. She grabbed both of her daughter's tiny hands into her one hand.

"Can you promise me that whatever you do in your life, whatever you face, you face it head-on and at the exact moment, it's thrown at you. And while you're doing it, you're allowed to cry, you're allowed to scream, and you're allowed to hurt, but you are not allowed to quit. Can you do that?" The little girl took in what she had said first then slowly nodded.

"I promise mommy."

"Thank you, Ally." Her mother managed to breathe out before closing her eyes for good. Ally let her tears fall silently to the ground. As her father dragged her out she whispered loud enough for only her and the bey to hear.

"I promise."
