"Next, Federal Bureau Of Investigation, the division of crime and murder..." there was a long pause from the chief. " Looks like there is only 3 interns transferring to this branch."
Every intern was waiting patiently in their seats for their name to be called. Just like the others I was eager for my name to be called too. Just like them, I had studied and became an intellectual in solving crime. I had spent 5 years mastering myself and those 5 years will not go to waste. I was determined, but I had already lost hope this was the last branch to be selected and put in and chief just announced that there will only be 3 interns selected.
Ever since I was a youngster, I had a dream of becoming a detective just like my dad was. He isn't alive anymore to be proud of me, to call me his little Yuri bear... whistle really loud when ever I won a award, give me kisses every night... tell me that he would be out for a few days to solve a case. He always came back, he brought me gifts too. But that one cursed day when he was supposed to come back and give me kisses, hugs and gifts...he didn't show up. He didn't pick up our calls either... he just vanished.
A few days later the police found his body buried inside, underneath giant rocks on a land fill. It was aired on TV as murder. It was murder. That was the saddest day for the Jung family. After much investigation the police had left the case unsolved. Our mother lost her mind. She would occasionally get mad at us for no reason and would throw anything she could find beside her at us. I had to protect Hoseok, he was my little brother. I had to protect him at all cost. She was a mental psycho at that time and I wouldn't let my brother get hurt because of her.
Me and Hoseok stayed at a foster care for a few years. No one was willing to adopt us together it was either only me or only Hoseok. Mom regained her consciousness after a few years in metal care. We where at first scared when we returned back to her custody. But she had changed. She was back to the loving mother, aunt, sister, neighbor, the Mrs. Jung we all now know of. I shook my head at my past thoughts that happened more than 9 years ago. I gained my attention back to the chief who was getting ready announce.
"Federal Bureau of investigation, the division of crime and murder... congratulations Mr. Jackson Wang."
I could hear my heart beating. Only a few people clapped for him and the echo could be heard threw the whole auditorium. He was a guy who was barely known around the campus and yet got selected over all the toppers.
" God just please just this once." I prayed while crossing my fingers. There where now only 2 intern spots left. Pfft.. who was I the one to think that I would get selected out of the 59 other unselected interns.
" The second intern to be selected for the division of crime and murder is.... Congratulations Ms. Jung Yuri."
What...? aha am I dreaming? I slapped my face at least 5 times making sure I was not hallucinating.
" Jung Yuri, please step forward and collet your certificate" Chiefs voice rang threw the auditorium.
This was indeed real. I got up of my seat which was pretty much covered by my sweat. I made myself climb the stairs on to the stage, trying not to trip and fall out of total shock.
I got my award and stood beside Jackson. I bowed down to him and so did he. All eyes were on us, some with jealousy and hatred while others happy and proud. I could see my little brother Hoseok waving and cheering for me from the back seats. I giggled at his antics and and managed to give a tiny wave back.
" The third, last, and final intern to be selected to work in the division of crime and murder is..."
I didn't care who got selected. I was just happy that I got selected. I know, selfish much? Yet I had pursuit my dream of becoming an investigator. Tehe...and I am happy about that.
" Congratulations Kim Seokjin."
'Seokjin?' I thought to myself. I never thought he would make it. But he actually did. I was pretty happy for him I mean what are the chances for my neighbor to being in the same division as me. Yes, Jin is my neighbor. We only talked a couple of times for instance when we had that one team forensic science project about tracking fingerprints and locating Deoxyribonucleic acid.
We would usually go to each other house and work on the project together and his dad would make the best jokes while his mom will cooked the best food. I guess he got his genes from both of them. I admired Jin for that, a perfect family. And Oh my lord don't get me started on his sister she is litterly goals. Her face... the perfect kind. Guys would cut of there legs to just date her and let's be honest so would I .... AND HER CURVES. Don't get me wrong I am straight... u can just say that she is my role model after my dad.
On other instances our mom's would pack each other kimchi or tofu and mom would drag me to come along and believe me I would happily come along if the her conversations weren't freaking 30 minutes long. And some of those times me and Jin would have side conversations about the semester and he would try to tell his dead jokes. I mean, some of them as actually quiet funny but some of them are weird and well 'dead' and the cherry on top he would laugh like windex while smacking his thigh like a crazy witch trying to feel himself? Anyway...
" Kim Seokjin please step forward and collet your certificate" the chief exclaimed over the mic.
" Chief I have a joke..." Jin set forth.
" Go on" Chief breathed letting out a sigh
" What do you call a detective in bed?" Jin stood out proudly. There was a awkward silence... I guess no one was in the mood to hear a joke especially the interns who didn't get selected.
The auditorium was soon filled with laughter including Jin's windex laugh. I was laughing too. I guess that's his charm.
