A Picnic With Tarin

Fast forward into summer.

I rubbed my sniffly nose on my sleeve as silently as I could. I was crouching behind a rock at the park watching Tarin and Phoebe have a picnic at the beach. He surprised her with flowers. He hugged her tight when she got there. The same thing he did with me. I was happy I knew something she didn't. That he was a merman. Then something astonished me. She took off her tee shirt and shorts to reveal that she was wearing a swim suit. It looked like she was on a swim team or something. Then, after removing her glasses, she grasped Tarin's hand and they ran into the cobalt-blue foamy waves, and dove into them. I stood up and stretched my cramped legs (from squatting that entire time), and walked home.
