I woke up to the light of the sun shining through my bedroom window, i shifted in my covers yawning tiredly. Hearing a crinkle i looked underneath me my letter lay there reminding me of Riley, putting on my night gown and slippers i ran down stairs hurriedly to check the mail.

No cards lay in the small metal box, I didn't feel like going back into the house so i wrapped my gown tighter and walked to wards the river bank. Sitting down on the grass i watched the water glitter under the bright morning sun, the reflect was strong and it forced me to look away so i turned my head to a small path way.

Naturally getting curious i followed a long the small dirt road, on the other end was a rose field. Deja Vu swept over me and tears curbed my eyes, the urge to walk in was over whelming me so like i knew i would i took one gentle step inside the roses.

Letting my hands flitter behind me i walked all the way through, when the roses ended there were hills upon hills of fresh clean cut grass. Feeling like i did i wanted to run away, without hesitation i ran openly over the hills as fast as i could and when i couldn't possibly run any further i collapsed. I lay in the grass staring up at the clouds that roamed the sky, they had but not even one care in the world their whole existence.

After what felt like minutes but i could tell by the sky change was hours i stood up, dusting my self off i headed back to the roses. When i relocated them i stepped inside ducking in, touching the roses as i went, I saw the red roses and the white ones, I plucked one of the multi coloured ones, just the kind Riley would give me, holding it closely i continued to walk.

As i was brushing my hands on the roses my finger got caught on a thorn, feeling the sting i yelped and pulled my hand away sticking it in my mouth to stop the throbbing. Deja Vu swept over me once again but this time there was no Riley to save me. Feeling depressed i carefully picked a rose petal from one of the flowers and wrapped it around my bleeding finger. After holding it tightly for a minute or so i unwrapped it, but the blood started again. He never did tell me how he made it stop, he only told me it was magic.

I found my way safely out of the roses without pricking myself again, the autumn sun was low in the sky, nearing it's setting time. I gathered my dress over my ankles and ran back to the house where i expected my beating. As what i wished was granted father bounded down the stairs with an angry glare.

"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN CHARLOTTE!" He shouted from the top of the staircase, "I-I wa-" I started to say before i was cut off. "AND WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING GOING OUT IN YOUR NIGHT WEAR! YOU MUST SET A GOOD IMPRESSION FOR THIS HOME NOT THE IMPRESSION THAT WE'RE POOR AND CAN ONLY WEAR NIGHT CLOTHING!" He continued,

I looked down gritting my teeth. "Father I was just out by the rose bushes, no one walked by me, they couldn't possibly have the impression already that we're poor, besides it was early morning when i left."

His face grew redder and i sucked in a breath, he moved closer to me staring, when he stood a foot away from me he brought his hand up and slapped me hard across the face. I winced and fell to the ground holding my right cheek in my hand, I could feel the burning pulse beneath my palm as tears welled into my eyes.

"Why did you do it." I said breathing heavily through a clenched jaw. "Why did you take him away?! So you could do this to me! HURT ME?! WHY?!!" I shouted up at him my chest heaving and tears falling angrily. "You ruined my life." I said looking down again panting and choking on my tears.

I looked up again to see my fathers face look down in disgust. "I didn't ruin your life i did it for your own good that boy was nothing to you anyway." He said kicking me over and walking away. I lay there in a heap on the floor holding my sides afraid that if i let go i'd fall apart, my whole life would fall apart.

It didn't matter any more because Rye wasn't there to protect me anymore, mother wasn't there to stop my bruises any more. No one would keep my breathing going, no, not any more. I fell asleep on the tiles right there in my front hallway to tired to move to upset to care and to hurt to cry.

"Wake up! WAKE UP YOU'RE A HUMAN NOT A DOG!" My father shouted booting me in the side of the stomach, I breathed out in a rush trying to catch my breath from the sudden beating, clutching my side i sat up glaring up at him. He saw my look and his face burned, "Don't look at me like that!" He said angrily pulling me up by the hair.

"GO!" he shouted pointing to the kitchen. "Make me some breakfast, if you want to sleep on the floor like a slave i'll treat you like one!" I rubbed my hair tears welling up in my eyes again. I stumbled into the kitchen pulling out some eggs and some bacon.

The bacon sizzled in the pan while i mixed the eggs and the bread toasted. When the bacon and eggs were done i picked up the two pieces of toast placed them in a plate and poured the food over the top. I walked into the dining room where he sat waiting for his food, his feet up on the chair and the radio playing in front of him, I placed his food down and poured him a glass of juice.

"Hold on where do you think you're going!" He called to me when i had turned and was taking a step out. "To have a bath father." I said not turning around. Silence i assumed meant i could go so i rushed up the stairs and into my room.

I saw the rose laying on my bed slightly withered looking. I sighed and picked it up stroking it's beautiful unique petals, "Before the summer ends, I promise.." I whispered to the flower that I held gently in my hands. After a minute of admiring it i placed it into a vase of clean water a long with the one i collect the day before.

I unwrapped my night gown folding it and putting it into my washing basket that was due for attendance. I ran the taps to the bath, letting the warm water over power. For my leisure i threw in a couple of crystals and bubbles, and when the water reached halfway i climbed in carefully lowering myself into the hot but comforting water.

It could have been maybe an hour or so, every thing was quiet down stairs which could only mean father had gone out. My bath water wasn't hot but it more cold, the bubbles had died down and the skin on my fingers crinkled like small prunes. Taking this as my indication to get out, I pushed my self up out of the bath and wrapped a towel around my body.

I padded into my room the feeling of carpet weird on my feet, I pulled out my clothing and changed into my presentable appearance. After I cleaned the dishes that my useless father left for me and did a round of washing i headed out into the bright mid day sunlight, I looked for the path way i had found yesterday but it wasn't to be seen, with a sad feeling in me I walked over to the bridge on the river bank. It seems like every memory I ever loved and want to keep is strictly forbidden therefore must be demolished completely from my life.

I hung my arms over the railing of the bridge and stared into the water below me, I saw tiny little schools of fish darting about, I saw tadpoles and even a few jelly fish. I became to intrigued by the sea animals to notice that the sky was darkening.

Panicking I picked up my dress and started to run back to my house, just before father pulled into the drive way, I reached my room. Breathlessly I flipped myself onto my bed and exhaustedly I shut my eyes feeling my breathing smoothen and my heart beat slow, and when I was fully calm I didn't for one moment resist the urge to fall unconscious and into sleep.
