Chapter 48: The Meeting

Reeve Lowel's Point of View

I heard nothing except the sound of my pounding heart and panting breath. Even Tori's shouting voice seems like a whisper to me.

Puno ng panghihina ay umupo na lang ako sa lapag habang tinatabunan ang tenga ko.

"Don't die on me, fucker. Don't you dare, Stanislaski." Dr. Alexander is cursing from time to time while trying to revive his unconscious friend. I was mentally praying while crying hard.

I can't even look at Nikos right now. My heart started to break into tiny pieces when I felt someone put a black coat over my head.

Bigla rin akong nakaramdam na may yumakap sa akin.

"Reeve, you need to breathe, please." It was Tori's voice. I guess she's the one hugging me tightly. Hindi ko kasi makita ang kanyang mukha dahil may nakalagay na black coat sa ulo ko. I don't know what's the purpose of this but it helps my lungs to breathe some air. I was literally panicking earlier. Halos manginig na ang buong katawan ko sa kaba. Hindi ko kinakaya ang mga nakikita ko.

Kahit ang histura ni Nikos ay hindi ko matingnan. He looks so pale and he's just sleeping unsoundly in the bed.

"Tori, ilayo mo na muna siya dito. She looked like she will faint at any moment." The voice came from Elizabeth. Nakilala ko ang dalaga ng madalas din itong pumunta at bumisita kay Nikos.

"The sight is just too much for her." She added with a quieter tone.

Tama sila Elizabeth, napakahirap para sa akin makita si Nikos sa ganitong kalagayan. And because I haven't eaten anything since morning my head started to throbs like crazy. Napahawak ako sa tingin ko'y kamay ni Tori.

I tried looking for support because I think at any minute I will lose my balance. Just then, I heard everyone calling my name as everything went black.

I know I'm dreaming. I saw Nikos' back and I was shouting his name. Kahit gaano kalakas ang boses ko ay parang hindi niya ako naririnig at patuloy lang sa paglalakad palayo sa akin. Inilibot ko ang aking paningin at tanging puti lang ang nakikita ko. And at the end of the isle, Nikos is standing there, still not looking at me.

"Nikos!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. I wanted him to look at me!

"Pwede bang tumigil ka muna sa paglalakad palayo? Pwede bang ikaw ang pumunta sa pwesto ko?" I cried helplessly. Narinig kong may tumatawag sa pangalan ko at maya-maya lang ay may narinig akong ingay mula sa aking pwesto.

Dahan-dahan kong iminulat ang aking mga mata. The lights almost blinded me off. Ipinikit ko muna ang aking mga mata bago ito ulit buksan. They adjusted in the lights perfectly fine.

"Mabuti at nagising ka na rin, Reeve!" Rinig kong boses na Colleen sa aking tabi. Walang buhay ko siyang tiningnan at nagsalita.

"Anong nangyari sa akin?" I can feel the dryness of my lungs. And all I can think about is water.

"You fainted from shock." Inilibot ko ang paningin ko sa buong kwarto. I'm laying down on the hospital bed. Colleen is sitting beside me from a small chair. Klyrex is putting a take out food on the table.

"How many hours I'm unconscious?"

"Ten hours," I thought I was asleep for almost a day. Bigla na lang akong naalarma nang maalala ko si Nikos. Dr. Alexander was using a defibrillator to give a high energy electric shock to his heart.

"How about Nikos! How is he!?" I didn't wait for their reply, hence, I removed the infusion set that is attached to my skin and stormed out of the room. Patakbo akong pumunta sa kwarto ni Nikos at mabilis pa sa alas kwatro kong binuksan ang kanyang pinto.
