song: strawberry blond by mitski

~~~
Iwaizumi rolled down the windows of his light blue, old truck. Sitting in the passenger seat, Oikawa was sticking his hand out the window, almost as if he was trying to catch the air. A smile lit up his face, making his eyes shine with pure happiness as the wind roared in between his fingers.
While the two drove across the empty road, music played softly from the truck's old CD player. Iwaizumi hummed along to the song, tapping his finger to the beat on the steering wheel. Oikawa sang the lyrics, his voice oh-so beautiful, just like him.
"I don't wanna be your friend," he sang, dancing slightly in his seat, "I wanna kiss your lips. I wanna kiss you until I lose my breath."
Oikawa's voice carried through the car, slightly drowned out by the screaming wind. His hair was nice and fluffy, despite getting blown around by the wind, and his brown eyes were filled with joy as he sang the words to the song playing over the speaker.
Next to him, Iwaizumi kept his hands on the wheel while he drove. "We're almost there," he said once the song ended.
Oikawa let out a cheer. "Three hours of driving will be worth it!" He looked out the window and saw the long, white beach stretching next to the road. All that was blocking them from reaching the sand was a thin row of trees. Iwaizumi sped up slightly to get to the opening in the trees and turned.
The shift from asphalt to sand was rough on the vehicle and it bounced slightly. A cheeky smile was plastered on Oikawa's face as the smell of salt water hit his nose. The moment the truck stopped moving, he removed his seatbelt and dashed out of the car, instantly running from it.
"Oikawa!" a boy on the beach yelled, hugging him quickly.
He laughed, squeezing him in return. "Mattsun!"
Iwaizumi hopped out of the truck and joined Oikawa. Matsukawa, Hanamaki, Kindaichi, and Kunimi were standing around him, exchanging hugs and asking questions. Iwaizumi snaked his arm around Oikawa's waist as he joined the group.
"It's been too long!" Kindaichi said, giving Iwaizumi a fist-bump. "How have you been?"
"I've been good. University is kicking my ass, but it's . . . manageable."
Hanamaki laughed. "I know the feeling."
After a very brief catchup on each other's lives, Kunimi said, "Enough waiting! Let's go swimming!" Everyone cheered, and soon, they were in the water, splashing around and laughing.
The vibrant energy everybody felt was intoxicating. The hours they spent swimming felt only like minutes, and in those hours, they forgot everything that wasn't each other. All of their worries about college, money, the future, whatever you can think of, disappeared.
That lack of worry—that was pure bliss. Iwaizumi couldn't help but laugh at every silly movement he and the others made; he couldn't help but grin wildly at every kiss Oikawa gave him. And Oikawa, well, he was absolutely ecstatic. He jumped and swam and splashed and smiled and sang and just lived. He hadn't felt this happy in a long, long time. Only Iwaizumi could ever make him this happy: That's why he was his boyfriend, even after three years. Those years were the best Oikawa had ever lived.
Eventually, the sun's rays began draining the last bit of everyone's energy. The slowly trudged back to the sandy beach, sitting down on towels as they watches the sun drop beneath the horizon.
Iwaizumi and Matsukawa stood up, grabbing lighter fuel and large, dry branches. They carried them from Iwaizumi's truck all the way to the pit thirty feet away before dropping them inside of it. The last remnants of sunlight disappeared as Mattsun doused the branches in fuel.
Kindaichi and Kunimi walked with Oikawa and Hanamaki over to the large, circular pit, and Iwaizumi turned on his speaker, blasting music, and, of course, dancing with Oikawa.
"Are you ready?" Matsukawa asked enthusiastically.
"Yeah!" the group cheered altogether.
The boy lit a match and tossed it into the pit. With a bang, a fire shot up from the pit, dancing as it illuminated the six people standing around it.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi cheered at the bonfire as it grew in its manageable pit. Iwaizumi, with his dark hair and gleaming brown eyes, grabbed his boyfriend gently and pulled him close. Oikawa looked up at him and grinned before grabbing him shirt collar and bringing their lips together. Without breaking the kiss, Iwaizumj smiled and put his hands on Oikawa's saiys. They swayed slightly to the song as it blasted over the speakers, not caring whether or not their friends were watching them.
Iwaizumi pulled his boyfriend closer, if that were even possible. He loved this boy so, so much, and he wanted to be as close to him as he could, no matter the space between them (or in this case, the lack thereof), he wanted to be with Oikawa, he wanted to love him and hug him and hold him and just be. Even though their was practically nothing separating them besides the thin cloth of their swimsuits, both boy still seemed hungry for more—no, they were starving. Their lips moved together, getting rougher and greedier with every passing second, and Iwaizumi had to keep herself from crying with joy at the fact that this boy, his Oikawa, was devoted to loving him.
God, Oikawa changed Iwaizumi so much. He would have never, ever admitted to being so deeply in love with someone. But he wasn't drowning—no, this feeling was wonderful, like a nice, cool pool that welcomed him in and held him gently, while also being so extremely invigorating all at the same time. It was amazing, being with Oikawa.
As much as the two were enjoying this, the lack of oxygen caught up to them quickly, and they broke apart, still clinging to each other, their foreheads touching as they panted. Oikawa looked up and met Iwaizumi's eyes, giggling happily.
Iwaizumi's hands slowly untangled themselves from Oikawa's light brown locks and he took a small step back to look at his friends. Hanamaki let out a low wolf-whistle while Kunimi said, "You got this, man." Mattsun and Kindaichi let out cheers at Kunimi's comment.
Oikawa turned his attention away from his friends to ask Iwaizumi what they meant, but when he did, he was no longer face-to-face with him. Oikawa took a second and looked down, nearly crying when he did.
He was on the ground on one knee, the flickering fire giving just enough light to illuminate the nervousness in his face. An open box was in his outstretched hand, glinting slightly in the firelight.
"Oikawa Tooru, for the past three years we've been together, my life has been nothing but joy and excitement. Well, maybe a little bit of chaos. Anyway, Tooru, what I'm trying to say is . . . will you—"
"Yes!" he, flinging his arms around Iwaizumy as tears of happiness glistened in his eyes. "Yes, I'll marry you!"
A collective "Aww" went up from the four others. Iwaizumi and Oikawa separated, a new ring now on Oikawa's finger.
"Hm," he said, observing the ring. "You know, Iwa-chan, Oikawa Hajime does have a nice ring to it."
"You mean, Iwaizumi Tooru?"
"Ah, don't make me decide! I like them both."
With that, a laugh surrounded the area, and the fun only continued.
