About a year has passed after everything that has happened with the dragon incident as what the CCG calls it. Touka was finally able to open up a coffee shop for both ghouls and humans. Yomo helps her as well as Hinami and a few of the kids she teachers. Hinami teaches kids, both ghoul and human, about what had happened and how the world came to be. Ayato also occasionally helps with the coffee shop, but he is currently helping Kaneki with Goat. Although Goat was primarily to get humans and ghouls come together, they still operate to find ways for humans and ghouls to become more together. Hide has made slight recovery after his incident, but is nonetheless happy to be with us once more. And Kage, he couldn't be happier to help Touka as well. Although he was still fairly young to work behind the counter, he helps buss tables and brings people their orders.

As for me, I help with Goat as much as I can. I also am the head of the clean up operation. It's taking sometime to clean up after dragon, but we are slowly working our way around it. I also help out with Goat whenever I can as well, but being the head for clean up and reconstruction, I find myself pretty exhausted when I am able to attend Goat meetings with the CCG. Although Kaneki comes home and tells me all about it, which puts me to sleep most of the times. He doesn't mind. He usually helps me get to bed and tells me about it in the morning before we head off. When Kaneki isn't having meetings with the CCG, he is also helping Kimi with finding an antidote to reverse the effects of dragon. They did try to find a way a few days after dragon was destroyed, but they all resulted in failures. Kaneki believes there is a way to reverse it and he hopes it will come soon.

For the first time after all of this, I was finally home at a reasonable time. I was able to get off early and pick up Kage earlier than normal. We went and got something for dinner and headed back to the house. I helped Kage get everything ready and the door burst open.

"Kaneki?" I turned over to him.

He looked exhausted, but he had a smile on his face.

"We did it," he breathed out.

"Did what?"

"Kimi found a way to reverse the effects."

"That's amazing!" I said and walked over to him and hugged him.

He hugged me back and kissed my head. "Kimi is passing out the first dose right now. She's going to continue to work on the second dose and hopefully everyone will be back to normal by tomorrow or so."

"I'm glad you two were able to figure it out."

"Me too," he said.

"Hi, Kaneki!" Kage smiled.

"Hi, Kage," Kaneki smiled and pulled away. He bent down and picked Kage up. "How's my bud been?"

"Good! Want to help me make dinner?"

"What are you having tonight?" he asked and set Kage down.

Kage jumped back onto the step stool he was on and showed Kaneki what he was making.

"Y/N said this was once your favorite," Kage smiled.

Kaneki smiled down at Kage, "It was. I will tell you right now, it's really good. So it might be your favorite too."

"Are you going to have anything tonight?" Kage asked.

"I did prepare something for us," I said and walked over to the fridge.

Kage finished up making his dinner and I brought the container over from the fridge and put them on plates. I helped Kage bring over the pan to the table and we all sat down. It was the first time in a while since the three of us ate together. Most of the time it was Kaneki and Kage. It helped them grow a bond together. Besides, Kaneki might be his brother eventually.

Later that night Kaneki and I were sitting on the porch in the back looking at the night sky. Touka and Hinami were over and a few of the kids as well to play with Kage.

"This is what it should have been from the start," Touka said.

"Yeah. That would have been nice," I said.

"But now they can live in a world where they can be free," Kaneki said. "They no longer have to worry about their lives."

"Human and ghouls, who knew we could come together," Hinami said.

"Never would have thought I would see the day," I smiled.

It was getting late and Kage had fallen asleep on Kaneki and most of the kids were sleepy as well. Hinami and Touka took them back to the CCG building and Kaneki carried Kage up into his room.

"He really seems to like you," I smiled as Kaneki walked into our room.

"Yeah. I never thought he would be so open to us," Kaneki said and closed the door. "So I was talking to Touka earlier."

"Yeah," I said.

"Did you know ghouls don't really have weddings?"

"I never knew that," I said.

"Yeah. She explained how they get married and such. It's definitely a lot different than how we used to do it."

"I see."

"Yeah," Kaneki said and rubbed the back of his neck.

I looked up at him and smiled at how awkward he was.

"Kaneki."

"Yeah?"

I smiled at him, "I think I'm ready."

"Y-You do?"

"Yeah. So, talk me through this process."

"Well, Touka said that we have to bite one another."

"Bite?"

"Yeah. Bite hard enough that the scar never fades. Even after death."

"But wouldn't it heal?" I asked.

"I asked her that and she said somehow it doesn't."

I nodded, "Alright. We should probably do it when I am not dead ass tired."

He chuckled, "I figured you wouldn't be up for it tonight."

He crawled into bed and wrapped his arms around my waist. He pulled me closer to him and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight, Y/N."

"Goodnight, Kaneki. I love you."

"I love you, too," he said.
